I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

OP posts:

Democraticqueen- I like that, it fits.

BitOfFun · 07/05/2010 23:29

Keats makes a great devil- so persuasive and deceptive.

Valpollicella · 07/05/2010 23:32

CJ - kinda It's an Italian red wine

scurryfunge · 07/05/2010 23:33

Do you think they are all dead and are stuck as characters and that Jim dispatches them to their proper place? He's not a baddy but the grim reaper?

NathanBarley · 07/05/2010 23:34

Remember the little boy playing with the toy car on his knee at the beginning of last ep? I think that was gene - implies he is from present day and has been sent back to past like alex and sam?

democraticqueen · 07/05/2010 23:34

i love the idea of keats as the devil and gene as jesus/god/an angel. the people keats "takes" look genuinely terrified and have proper death throwes

Valpollicella · 07/05/2010 23:38

No I don't think they're dead, but they are all in comas from all over time.

Gene is trying to keep them there (he is dead, killed before his glory moments, which he is now getting)

Keats is trying to get them to 'accept' their fate and go into the light (or the stars as it were)

Nah. I see it more as 'limbo' for lost souls, and Gene is the gatekeeper for Heaven, and Keats is the gatekeeper for Hell.

democraticqueen · 07/05/2010 23:41

oooh i like that! which would explain his "dont be daft" comments to both sam and alex. (nearly typed bolly)

Valpollicella · 07/05/2010 23:53

But BoF, if he were the gatekeeper for heaven surely he would be trying to help expidite thier souls to hevaen, in the same way that Keats is trying to get them to Hell?

Gene seems to want to keep them there in his 'kingdom'....

jenduff · 07/05/2010 23:54

Great theories on here - am totally confused and trying to persuade DH to cancel a long planned night out on 21st so we can watch the last A2A [sob]

Valpollicella · 08/05/2010 00:00

Tell him to go on the night out and then you can enjoy in peace

BitOfFun · 08/05/2010 00:06

Maybe they need to learn something first? He was definitely trying to save Viv for redemption. And I'm sure I remember a time in the last series (or LOM) when he held a vice girl in his arms as she died and kind of 'absolved' her. I will dig a bit and come back to you on that though

Valpollicella · 08/05/2010 00:14

Intersting theory BoF. Would have been interesting to know what would have happened the other week with (name escapes me, copper who hooked up with the old gangster) if he'd got to her first rather than Gene...

Wonder wheher he would have absolved her?

Which then would lead us to the question, what did Sam, and now Alex need to learn or be absolved from? Given they are good, 'clean', by the book modern coppers...?

BitOfFun · 08/05/2010 00:14

Gene held the old version of Martin Summers in his arms and reassured him that he had once been a good cop.

And yes, it was series two when he held the young stripper from Manchester dying in his arms 'you won't tell my mum?'....

Valpollicella · 08/05/2010 00:22

I remember now...

So he sends them on their way when they have repented maybe? Eases their passge into Heaven...

Ergo, maybe Sam turned, and went 'bad' after he went back? Maybe why Gene doesn't want to talk about it anymore as he couldn't help him pass peacefully as he hadn't repented (for something he did? Disillusioned? Violent? )

Maybe an equivalent Keats got to him and then sent him to Hell. And Gene feels terrible he didn't get the chance to help him after everything....

Ooooh, yes, that is a brilliant theory! I love it. But I hate to imagine Sam turning bad- he never seemed the type, did he?

Valpollicella · 08/05/2010 00:40

But being in a timeslip coma will eventually mess with you and who you 'are' I reckon Bof...

Especially if you put yourself back there against the will of 'Gene'. IE he sent him back (if we're subscribing to the Gene being a sender backer). But Sam wilfully tried to return. Thereby upsetting the balance of Gene's 'kingdom'. Gene then gets pissed off as he's trying to help other souls. Sam had his chamce to go back and now is just the annoying know it all, with his fancy future theories (Gene's view)

Sam become dissilusioned with the world the he hoped to return to. Temptation calls him and as he has had Gene's protection once (and flounted it by returning) he is now 'unprotected' Open to evil forces....

Reckon that a big part of the reveleal is going to be something about Molly

BitOfFun · 08/05/2010 00:54

Could be, because 'Molly' was on the graffiti in the tunnel a few episodes back, but has otherwise done a Tracey-from-Corrie disappearing act with her homework for fifteen years

Valpollicella · 08/05/2010 01:00

Am a bit pissed off that this series she's obsessed with Sam. And there's no mention of Molly/...

Yeah fair enough get obsessed with Sam if he's going to get you back. But no visions at all? Or mentions? Other than the first ep where she talked into the radio

Tracey from Corrie only reappeared when she took an e and had to have a kidney transplant iirc. So hoping it's something equally dramatic re Molly

Rocinante · 08/05/2010 07:57

I'm another one who goes for the Jim Keats as the Devil, sucking the souls out of the dying.

He's all-knowing, hence the implicit acknowledgement of references relating to the future, and by cutting Viv off from talking to Gene at the beginnning of the episode, he ensured Viv didn't reveal his role in the prison plot and save himself, thereby giving Jim another soul to claim.

jenduff · 08/05/2010 08:34

going to see if I can find it on iplayer to re-watch and listen for the soul whispery bit

chimchar · 08/05/2010 08:48

god. its gripping...i'm really hoping that the ending doesn't disappoint.
