I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 26/04/2010 18:12

4th July 1975?

ChildOfThe70s · 26/04/2010 18:21

But why 1975? Wasn't Life on Mars just 1973 - not sure of the time period it covered

VJay · 26/04/2010 18:39

I was thinking that there was something significant about the number plate too as it was lingered on a few times on Friday, but have absolutly no idea what, so a useless post really!

BelleDameSansMerci · 26/04/2010 18:40

Erm.... And Sam didn't die in Gene's world until later than 1975. No idea at all, I'm afraid!

fartmeistergeneral · 26/04/2010 18:45

Yes, I'm sure the number plate is significant, JLY is just a gift. But not sure about '75. Sam disappeared in 1980, didn't he?

BelleDameSansMerci · 26/04/2010 19:19

So, in my tragic internet searching I've found this discussion. I haven't had a chance to read it all yet but it's got some very interesting theories.

If I ever get my child into bed this evening, I'll read through it later...

BelleDameSansMerci · 26/04/2010 19:38

And, this about the dead policeman from someone called ClosetMonster on another thread:

Haven't read all the rest of this thread, will go back and do that in a moment, but wanted to post a theory my brother came up with as regards Mr Ghostie. Like many he said it's Sam, which I immediately countered with the 'but look at the uniform', then came his theory.

An accident took him back in the first place, what if another accident took him back further still. Instead of just going back to the 70s what's to say he didn't then get bounced back to the 50s/60s, and the reason Gene is so reluctant to talk about things is the fact that there simply was no body there to be found. Whatever there was of Sam that existed in that world had bounced further back leaving an empty car upside down in the river.

Hermya321 · 26/04/2010 20:29

Oooooo just had a look on that thread Belle the numberplate of the Quattrom JLY75IV, someone said the IV could be roman numerals for four. So this could be July 4th 1975 or a reference to a IV given to someone in July 1975.

Do you think they've made the connection that 6620 is the dead coppers shoulder number?

thederkinsdame · 26/04/2010 21:05

Oooh, Belle, good theory!

BelleDameSansMerci · 26/04/2010 21:14

I'd love to take the credit for the theories but sadly they are not my own...

JackieNo · 27/04/2010 08:16

So from all these theories, does that make the Railway Arms heaven (or Valhalla )? And Nelson is what, St Peter?

gingercat12 · 27/04/2010 08:51

I wish I found this thread sooner. Love these theories

Clydesdale · 27/04/2010 11:38

for good theories for this look up luigis on google and join their threads.

one of the latest we have been looking at is the parallels between a2a / LoM and a film called A matter of Life and Death!!!

Clydesdale · 27/04/2010 11:40

oohhh - info on penultimate prog

www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2010/wk19/fri.shtml#fri_

gingercat12 · 27/04/2010 12:11

Thanks Clydesdale.
They seem really interesting

BelleDameSansMerci · 27/04/2010 13:54

Clydesdale - I love that film. David Niven - so suave!

CalmCalmCalm · 27/04/2010 14:28

I quite like the theory about Sam being bounced around in time, but I really don't think the ghost is Sam. I don't know how they could explain him looking so different. I think the ghost looks more like Gene than anyone else (but am prepared if we find out that it's someone new)

Could the "IV" be initals? Not necessarily for a name but for words?

Egwene · 28/04/2010 16:49

I think they are all in a coma. Keats helps them die, as he did with Louise. Gene helps them fight it and helps them bee strong and find their own way, and eventually come out of the coma.

chimchar · 28/04/2010 18:09

do you know? you are all sooooo much cleverer than me! i just watch and enjoy....i'm a bit thick about all these theories. in my defence, i've not seen lofe on mars...is it relavant?

i have one silly question...why does gene call alex "bolly" or something! all the time?

top programme though, whatever is going on!

basildonbond · 28/04/2010 18:50

bolly - Bollinger - champagne - cos she's all posh innit?

BelleDameSansMerci · 28/04/2010 19:02

It was originally Bolly Knickers...

chimchar · 28/04/2010 19:34

ahhhhhhhh! i see!

lol

have just been telling dh all about this thread...he'd missed it all too which surprised me as he's usually into all sorts of "clever" tv shows.

have just told him we need to get hold of life on mars to watch....is it on dvd? and more to the point, is it worth getting?

VJay · 28/04/2010 19:47

chimchar I bought it for dh last fathers day, it was really cheap off amazon, didn't tell him that , and am watching now, it's good.

BelleDameSansMerci · 28/04/2010 20:33

Life on Mars is incredible... Completely different to Ashes in lots of ways but similar in others. Lots of humour and the very charismatic Mr Hunt but it's got a different feel. I loved it although I prefer Ashes (but my heart is stuck in the 80s).

chimchar · 28/04/2010 20:46

cool. i reckon its got to be worth a go then...

god. my dh will be dead pleased...a tv we BOTH like!!

of course, it remains to be seen whether i can stay awake long enough to watch an episode in one sitting!!!
