I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 23/04/2010 23:58

Hehehe

Thediaryofanobody · 24/04/2010 00:55

Oooh good clue on the chris thing. I really need to rewatch 11 months on I've still got baby brain.

bellissima · 24/04/2010 08:19

Loved the Blue Peter bit but a sense of disappointment started to creep in - it's becoming more about the 'clues' than the immediate story. And the fact that these were all dreamt up for the third series - hmm - dunno - still love Gene..

BelleDameSansMerci · 24/04/2010 08:28

Where the bloody hell was this thread last night? I couldn't find you anywhere - sob...

Although, I don't have anything helpful to add.

This would be pretty obscure, I think.

BelleDameSansMerci · 24/04/2010 08:31

Although this might not be?

Too many of Keats's poems could be relevant. Or, more likely, not!

BelleDameSansMerci · 24/04/2010 08:33

Aaaand, he did, of course, write the Belle Dame Sans Merci... Excellent chap all round really

Nymphadora · 24/04/2010 09:02

Dh just said Keats as Angel of death (going to have to watch him he is going to be on here soon). Def creepy when Keats was with Louise as she died.

And Chris has gone over to Keats

moonmother · 24/04/2010 09:36

After talking to Dp , who studied Keats for his degree, apparently Keats(the poet) admired and was inspired by a poet called Leigh Hunt, as well as Lord Byron

A clue perhaps.

I believe Keats is a fallen archangel- in a battle with Gene for lost souls. Louise was 'taken' by Keats to 'hell' as she turned 'bad'.

The stars represent heaven or the good side.

Gene represents the battle of good against evil- Alex, Sam etc help in the battle, and if they help win the battle are sent back to continue the fight in reality.

If you get my drift

BitOfFun · 24/04/2010 10:49

Apparently, the poet Keats actually described himself as "a rebel angel", and this is the title of more than one biography of him...

Northernlurker · 24/04/2010 11:00

Keats just appears doesn't he? You're watching the scene with other people in and suddenly he just appears like he was there all along except you could swear he wasn't....ugh!

Personally I think he's definately out of his time. He's not an 80's character - he's much more modern.

edam · 24/04/2010 11:16

Ooh, good work on the Keats references Belledame, all I could remember were grecian urns and nightingales and beauty is truth and truth beauty. That Eng Lit. A level clearly hasn't stuck!

BitOfFun · 24/04/2010 11:26

Yes, that line in Bright Star really stands out: "Awake forever in a sweet unrest"...Spooky!

BitOfFun · 24/04/2010 11:49

OOOOOOHHHHH- now it is making sense (in a ganja-smoking english lit student kinda way):

Look at that poem again...

"Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever--or else swoon to death."

What is that if it wasn't the scene of Louise's death?

Keats did say to her "still, still", didn't he, as he soothed her to death?

And he didn't want her to speak- is that like denying her confession and redemption, and sending her to Hell?

KayHarker · 24/04/2010 11:54

In series two there were quite a few scenes with someone dying in Gene's arms (what a way to go!) Interesting parallels.

fartmeistergeneral · 24/04/2010 12:44

OK, the LoM music played for Shaz when she was persuaded to stay in CID, and for Raymondo when he was praised by Gene for his bravery.

Do you think then that Chris/Ray etc know what's going on? There was a scene where Keats is talking to Ray and Ray says something like 'what, join you?' - does Ray mean at the gates of hell (!) or just in Internal Auditing or whatever?

Good explanation before re Sam's disappearance - that he has been sent back to reality to continue the fight against evil. Both Sam and Alex constantly go/went on about what they have to do 'to get back'.

What about Annie? What do we think happened to her?

thederkinsdame · 24/04/2010 14:43

Does anyone else think it's odd that the three main characters from Gene's world all moved from Hithe to London (i.e. Gene, Chris and Ray?) Also, has anyone noticed that Alex doesn't have a bed in her flat? She always sleeps on the couch.

lottiejenkins · 24/04/2010 16:05

She did sleep in the bed in previous series. Theres that dream scene Gene is in bed with her!

KayHarker · 24/04/2010 17:55

she slept under a red duvet as I recall. In a satin black nightshirt.

Hermya321 · 24/04/2010 19:54

I've just caught up with it on BBC iplayer.

It was pretty good, I'm agreeing with the whole battle for souls stuff. The fact that Jims office is orange and quite hellish does seem to point to that doesn't it.

Though I loved the number plate on Derek Staffords car NOB999M LOL!!

The whole Gene hearts Sam graffiti made me giggle as well.

JackieNo · 24/04/2010 22:37

Loving all the gatekeeper theories - all sounds v plausible.

I've been trying to make anagrams of 'Jim Keats' and 'James Keats', but with no success.

When Keats said that he was going to overlook Chris's beating up of Stafford, I thought 'Jim fixed it...' but couldn't get that idea to go anywhere!

iloveasylumseekers · 24/04/2010 22:49

The copper with his face blown off is a young Gene Hunt, and that's when he died and became an angel. Plausible?

HermyaBC321 · 24/04/2010 22:51

ILAS I think it is plausible.

I think that once Alex does some research into those numbers she might start getting somewhere.

BitOfFun · 24/04/2010 22:54

But the copper with his face blown off has the number etched into Alex's desk on his epaulettes. And it's not Gene's number AFAIK, or she would have made the connection already.

HermyaBC321 · 24/04/2010 22:58

To be honest BOF I don't think Alex has made the connection that those numbers are the guys coller numbers.

BitOfFun · 24/04/2010 22:59

No, but surely if she knew Gene's police ID, then she wouldn't still be baffled. So I douct it's Gene. Plus he's too skinny
