OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 05/02/2010 23:17

Oh I just love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder what the ash stuff was? Hope Richard is alright still like him

I was wonder ing about the reincarnation of Jacob, its hard to believe he would just be dead like that.

I always believed it would end with the original plane crash and a WTF we're all back here type of thing but I reckon your dh could be on tosomething Paddington

Although dosen't explain why when the plane was crossing the island it was at bottom of the ocean

CrosswordGeek · 05/02/2010 23:32

My guess is that the alternative timeline is if the atom bomb went off in the 70s when Juliet was hitting it. Soooo, that could have done something to destroy the island/make it sink. Which in turn could have changed a whole lot of circumstances over the space of 30 years, that would have an effect on the passengers lives too.

Unless the Island moved and decided to leave that stuff behind?

paddingtonbear1 · 05/02/2010 23:33

When Miles 'spoke' to Juliet after she died, did she say 'it worked'? We didn't quite catch that bit.
Anything surrounding Locke confuses me these days.. was the black 'monster' supposed to be him? Loved the bit near the end though when he walked along the beach carrying Richard, and went past himself in the coffin!!

EightiesChick · 05/02/2010 23:39

Yes, Juliet says 'It worked'. So supposedly the dead Juliet knows that they're all alive and disembarking from flight 815, in some other parallel world...

Fake Locke = the man in black who's Jacob's nemesis, AND = smoke monster. I like this! About time they explained the smoke monster.

Great to see Locke again, both as himself in the parallel universe of 2004, and as Mr Smoke Monster. I like the idea that Jack might be able to give him the ability to walk again.

CrosswordGeek I like the theory that the parallel 2004 is one that's slightly different because the bomb actually went off in the 70s. Kate's 'ears full of water' sensation at the start was a nice touch, so they must be coming back to the underwater thing.

Rosesinautumn · 06/02/2010 00:20

Just sticking my oar in here... love Lost.

I wondered about Jacob 'inhabiting' Sayid's body as well but I watched the trailor on Youtube the other day and there's a moment that show 'original' Jacob putting a white stone on a pair of scales so I'm not so sure now (although this is Lost, who bloody knows)!

Also when Miles and Hurley were over Sayid's body, can't remember exactly what Hurley says but something like 'what dude?' and Miles replys 'nothing'. I wondered if he meant 'nothing' as in 'I wasn't going to say anything' or 'nothing' as in he didn't feel/hear Sayid's spirit (and therefore he wasn't dead)? His delivery of the line was ambiguous......agh damn Lost making me think at this time on a friday night!

PuppyMonkey · 06/02/2010 07:49

Love it love it. I saw it on Wednesday night (shhh EZTV online shhhhh) and loved it. Did I mention I love it? WTF was Des doing on the plane brother?

uglymugly · 06/02/2010 10:00

Someone has put together a split screen video of the plane scene from the pilot next to the plane scene in season 6 episode 1:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-1qzelSWpE

There was an X-Files' reference as well:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-1qzelSWpE

Someone elsewhere spotted that Desmond was wearing a wedding ring.

I've recorded the episodes to watch again over the weekend.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 06/02/2010 10:05

I think Sayid is still Sayid, simply because if he is not, I am going to stop watching. I knew last season that new!Locke was Smokey, nice to see it confirmed.

Boone said to Locke that Shannon was happy in the relationship that he went to get her out of, that's why she wasn't on the plane. In reality, they couldn't get the actress for the first episode.

I did read that Claire is back this season, would like to see what has happened to her. Great to see some of the lesser older characters again - Frogurt, Arzt.

MintChocAddict · 06/02/2010 12:45

Just another thought wizzing through my already very confused mind. Who's taking on the appearance of dead Chrisitian? Is it Jacob or the man in black?

When Christian has helped various characters on their way (Sun, Locke etc) is it as an act of good or evil.

MintChocAddict · 06/02/2010 12:46

Sorry whizzing

cocolepew · 06/02/2010 12:49

AAARRGHHHHHH I didn't understand any of it.

But as long as Sayid is in a vest all is right with the world.

walkthedinosaur · 06/02/2010 12:54

I'm completely lost with Lost have kept the second episode to watch again.

Completely disappointed that Sawyer kept his shirt on for two hours, I mean what's the point in that?

But loving it (even if I don't understand what's happening).

CrosswordGeek · 06/02/2010 13:31

Oh, back to my theory of the bomb going off and changing reality (in the parallel 2004 flight that we saw)....
If the bomb went off then Penny's dad might have been dead, and therefore not trying to ruin her relationship with Desmond. AND that would mean that Desmond would have never met Jack when he was running to train!

GOD I love theorising about Lost.
Also, I think we need to stick with calling the-bad-guy-inhabiting-Locke's-body - Flocke. Fake Locke

PlumBumMum · 06/02/2010 14:34

I think Christian would be good because he wanted them back to the island whereas black smoke man didn't want Jacob bringing people to the island,
just still wondering how he was able to take the form of Locke though because really he was baddy Locke when Locke was still alive.

Maybe something to do with the cabin & remember Locke came face to face with the smoke monster and nothing happened to him????,
oh my brain hurts with the theories that work in my head but not when I type them

AnathemaDevice · 06/02/2010 15:00

Hmm, if the bomb went off and killed Widmore, doesn't that mean Penny would never have existed?
Also, if we're to assume that the island sank as soon as the bomb went off, that means Ellie was killed, which means she never would have had Daniel, so the Losties wouldn't have known to set the bomb off to stop the Incident, which means the island wasn't blown up. Which gives me a headache.
PlumBumMum- when was Smokie/Man in Black bad Locke when Locke was still alive? He didn't take on the form of Locke until after the Ajira crash, did he?

PlumBumMum · 06/02/2010 16:50

when they were flashing through time it was bad Locke who sent Richard to real Locke to tell him he needed to die to get everyone back, but I suppose in real time Locke may have been dead in LA,
I am assumming that baddy Locke is the one who started the whole ball rolling about Locke being so special etc, or they would never have agreed to let him into see Jacob

But remember Ben shot Locke in the pit, and he didn't die????That just came to me there now though so I am confussing matters more

I did think for a minute the bomb didn't go off and it was a flash from the leaps in time but then that dosen't explain why we are seeing them on the plane

(Charlie and Penny are in Flash forward so they may not show up, or charlie may not show up again)

Merrylegs · 08/02/2010 08:31

Have been away, so bit late to this but wanted to run this one past you...

On the plane, when Jack saved Charlie, Charlie was really p'd off and said something like

"Why did you do that? I'm supposed to be dead."
(Or 'I'm meant to die?')

Because of course on the island he did die and it was kind of his destiny...... so what do you think that meant? That Charlie in the plane time knew he was really meant to be on the island?

And also, I think the island must have happened before the 'good' plane flight because Jack kind of 'recognised' Desmond and also Bernard and Mrs Bernard were, I think, rather knowing, as if they knew Jack but weren't going to give him any clues... and Bernard was in the loo for a while and then Charlie was in there..... and now my head hurts so I will just say.....

...wasn't Sawyer's face a little fatter this time? Is that a good look? Also thought Hurley looked huger.

PlumBumMum · 08/02/2010 11:46

Yeap merry he said I'm supposed to die,
but Jack had met desmond before the original flight anyway so would still have recognised him

CrosswordGeek · 08/02/2010 12:02

Rewatched yesterday.

The evil guy cannot be in Sayid's body, he imitates the bodies but does not inhabit them, as we see by the fact real Locke is all dead on the beach, and Flocke is walking around with Richard on his shoulders.

SO, either Sayid did actually come back to life, or maybe Jacob has found some way of being dead but inhabiting Sayid's body. Maybe the ashes that everyone has are previous Jacobs all burnt up to protect..... WOW, that would make sense, if the ashes are something to do with Jacob, because the bad guy can't hurt him, and when people are surrounded by the ashes, he can't hurt them either.

My poor Mum watched with me yesterday and was so confused. Season 6 is not the best place to start watching Lost!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 08/02/2010 12:41

Can I join? I only started watching lost in January so have done 5 series in a few weeks

I think the plane/airport scenes are an alternative timeline rather than a flash forward (I think Jack recognises desmond from the stadium) but haven't figured out how they are going to reconcile the two and how they are going to tie up all the subplots (eg did Penny's parents get off the island so would she ever have been born, would Desmond even have been training there if not for Penny etc)

I think Rose and Bernard will prove to be significant characters, remember they also didn't want to leave the island and that the island cured Rose as it did Locke. Also they were annoyed when the rest of them found them in the 70's flashback-just don't know what yet!

Sayid imo will be the new Jacob, maybe Jacob is in him but most likely his role has been passed on to Sayid-throughout the seasons the recurrant theme has been Sayid regretting his past and wanting to be a good guy. As long as he doesn't put a top on I don't care

The thing that most confuses me is who the heck the Others are and what their role is-I mean Juliet and even Ben seem pretty clueless yet at various points they have been able to kidnap/attack without even being seen or heard. Then at some points they are wandering through the jungle with bare feet and rags on, other times they are doing high tech research etc and wearing high heels (and then you have John Lennon the hippy types in the temple)

It's all just a big headfuck! No doubt my theories will have changed completely by next week...

Cyclops · 08/02/2010 12:59

plumbummum linked to this thread so I would like to join in with the theorising!

I wonder if smokie recognised Locke as somebody who could form part of his 'loophole', way back when Locke encountered smokie in S1 (which could explain why Locke was not attacked at that time). Danielle said that smokie was the island's security system and it does seem to kill off those people it wants off the island. BUT it made an exception with Locke......although it did attack Locke once and almost pulled him under ground via an uprooted tree ??

I think Jacob is using Sayid's body as a proxy in the same way that smokie is using Locke's body. I'm not sure about Christian yet....or why Claire was enticed into following him (abandoning Aaron in the process).

If the bomb went off in the 1977, then Widmore would still be alive cos he was off the island by then.

Cyclops · 08/02/2010 13:12

Take that back, Widmore didn't leave the island until much later!

But didn't Widmore leave the island many times which is how he fathered Penny...so he could've fathered her, then gone back to the island before 1977 (making Penny about 27yrs in 2004 which is feasible) but yes, if Widmore diead in 1977, then he wouldn't have been able to interfere with Penny's romance with Desmond!

Merrylegs · 08/02/2010 14:13

Ah yes, the stadium dash, brother. Which means that hasn't happened yet - at least not to Desmond, as he didn't recognise Jack.

Cyclops · 08/02/2010 14:21

I wonder about that bomb...the only baby conceived and born on the island was Ethan (sometime between 1974-1977)....after which all women died around the end of the first trimester (certainly before the second trimester had ended)...if the bomb did go off, then could the radioactive fall-out explain why women failed to have babies on the island after 1977? This is just thinking aloud so don't mind if you shoot me down!

Anyone remember how Ben said that Jacob would cure Juliet's sister's cancer if Juliet agreed to stay on the island and continue her research....following which Juliet discovered that Ben had cancer whilst her sister had been cured....following which Flight 815 dropped out of the sky complete with a spinal surgeon!!!

potplant · 08/02/2010 22:30

Thanks for the link UM. Good to see them side by side. I had forgotten how good that first episode was.

Blowing up the island in the 70's has created a paradox (OK I read that on Lostpedia) so they all still are on the island because Daniel said that they can't change their past, but they also can't be on the island because it was blown up in the 70s. So Shannon wasn't on the plane because she died on the island so there isn't an island version of her anymore.

Of course that doesn't explain why Jack's dad went missing or why Michael and Walt aren't on the plane, or why Locke is the smoke monster, or who are the temple people etc etc.
