Brand new thread for the Strictly Come Dancing finals - Go Team Cola!!!!!!

I think it depends on what you want from watching dancing.

If you want to watch someone and think "this is technically right and he does the steps exactly as he should" - great, but for me I want dancing to be more than that and for it to catch you up and transport you from where you are. Chris and Ola did that and to me, that is dancing. Ricky and Natalie did routines, they didn't truly dance in my extremely humble opinion

ceres · 20/12/2009 08:52

i'm glad chris and ola won - i really enjoy watching them dance, it is pure entertainment. and that is what scd is about for me.

imnotaceleb · 20/12/2009 08:55

I was pleased they won too - although more than Ola than Chris (never really warmed to him).

Their show dance was amazing, way better than N & R's.

LIZS · 20/12/2009 10:02

Also I think more people will take up dancing as a result of what Chris and Ola have achieved over the last 4 months than had Ricky and Natalkie won.

funkyanna37 · 20/12/2009 10:30

For me it was def. the right result - I enjoyed Cola so much more than the 'perfect' Ricky and Natalie...

Debs75 · 20/12/2009 10:55

So so glad team COLA won, they hadn't been in the dance off so had loads of public support and I think they were the best choice.
They weren't perfect but they were brilliant and they were so cheeky in their Charleston they could of won it on that alone.
They did miles better in the show dance, we've not seen him do lifts really so he did something different, Ricky was just showing off his strength.
I think I would of preferred to see Ali in the final instead of ricky.

sashays in, with name changed to InThisSequinBraandHoldingTheGlitterballTrophyYesYouOlaJordan* * realises name is far too long when trips over it and shows gusset Kristina Rhianoff style

annaje · 20/12/2009 12:11

I was so pleased they won. I think people forget that at the end of the day it is an entertainment programme - so, for me, Chris and Ola were far more entertaining.

Ricky - great dancer, but I was bored watching him.

Last year was the same - Rachel was a beautiful dancer (much better than Ricky IMO) but lost out to the 'entertainer'.

HappyMummyOfOne · 20/12/2009 12:53

Yeah baby for Team Cola - so glad they won

Never warmed to Ricky, it was the fake faces with the judges when they praised him - so false.

Ola and Chris were down to earth and achieved so much - the Charleston and their show dance were great and fun to watch. Ricky's show dance was just lifts and a little boring I thought.

LilyBolero · 20/12/2009 12:58

I definitely think the right people won - Chris and Ola connected with the audience much better, and their dances were outward looking, Ricky and Natalie were much more insular, and more 'aren't we clever' imo. And communication through the dance is half of it. However technically brilliant a dance is, if it doesn't connect with the person watching then it's almost worthless. Same with any art form - there is a lot of receptive value.

sazzerbear · 20/12/2009 13:19

The trophy is rubbish, looks like Mister Maker crafted it!

bexaa, I don't think they won because they are 'nice' (though it must help - hearing Natalie saying things like 'this is the best choreography you will EVER see' doesn't make me want to vote for her) - we voted for Chris and Ola because they communicated well through the dance, made the dancing fun, energetic, and enthusiastic, and they had my kids up and dancing as well. When Ricky and Natalie were on we were all a bit 'yeah, whatever, next please'. Nowhere near as interesting to watch (and that's what counts actually, it's part of dancing to make it watchable).

If you want to see a purely dance competition, where personality does not play a part in the outcome, then get yourself down to the Tunbridge wells Town hall, or whereever they hold professional ballroom dance competitions, and stop moaning about a staurday night entertainement show where the public who know not much about dance get to vote for people who aren't dancers.

Some people seem to entierly miss the point of strictly. Yes it's a competetion in which celebrities who are not dancers dance, get criticed by judges and then voted by the public for who they like best, for the sole purpose of entertaining the public on a saturday night.

It is not a serious attempt to find the celebrity in Britia who can dance the best.

In fact it is not serious in any way.

If it was they wouldn't let the public vote, it would only be judged by those qualified to judge, and it wouldn't get on saturday night tv, or on tv at all.

Bleating on about 'best dancer' in an indignant manner is seriously missing the point. If that's all it was about it wouldn't make it to Tv at all.

belgo · 20/12/2009 17:19

I didn't vote for anyone. Natalie and Ricky seemed nice enough but their dancing wasn't as entertaining as Ola and Chris. Technically they were better, but I found myself fast forwarding through their dances.

It's not about being nice it's about being interesting and watchable.

pinkteddy · 20/12/2009 17:20

here here baroness!!

belgo · 20/12/2009 17:23

The fact that Chris and Ola won is keeping far more in with the spirit of SCD, rather then just awarding the best dancer.

LilyBolero · 20/12/2009 17:26

Ricky and Natalie just didn't 'sell' their routines imo.

This is how to sell a Cha Cha Cha

AvadventCalendar · 20/12/2009 18:07

Chris & Ola's show dance

perfect.

chickbean · 20/12/2009 19:15

I almost didn't watch the final because I thought it was unfair that Chris and Ola got through ahead of Ali and Brian. However, I did watch and really changed my mind - I just enjoyed Chris and Ola's dances more than Ricky and Natalie's - and the standard was a lot closer than I expected too. Their Charleston is my favourite dance of the season.

We are just disagreeing with your opinion.

The judges are the dance skill element of the competition, the public vote the popularity element, and the final say on the winner goes to the public.

Cos the pubic is who this prime time viewing entertainment show is for.

As I've siad if it was just about dance as you claim, it wouldn't be on prime time saturady night TV.

It wouldn't be on tv at all.

It's an entertainment show based around a dance competeition, but ultimately the public popuarity vote decides it.

traceybath · 20/12/2009 19:56

I agree with you bexaa .

I thought team cola were a one trick pony - good at the funny dances but the sexier dances were awful to watch them do.

But I've been totally won over by Ricky's open to the waist shirts .

Was all good fun though.

MaHumbug · 20/12/2009 20:18

Tracey - I was inexplicably drawn to Rickys belly button.
