The Breakfast Club made me cry

Have just watched The Breakfast Club. I had remembered it as a real feel good teen film but it has made me cry. Judd Nelson's character is so so . It's so different looking at it from the perspective of a parent!

Random, but have just remembered Labyrinth...is that too out there? Was I ridiculously attracted to David Bowie and his bulgy breeches back then? Am I worried about myself now???

Also, my all time fave 80s flick (and heartthrob) Back to the Future and the lovely Michael J Fox!

pump up the volume, I used to heart christian slater back then (due to Heathers and Pump up the Volume). Main girld character was v cool and called Nora, to this day i lik the name because of that film.

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 23/10/2009 20:53

Ha, glitterkitty, thats Labyrinth.

glitterkitty · 23/10/2009 20:54

i fancied him too... uhh....

Monstermomi · 23/10/2009 20:54

Hassled, I loved Mosquito Coast as well!

mrmump · 23/10/2009 20:54

Never ending story.... hero on a huge white flying dog thing. But his horse drowned in the muddy bogs. cried and cried and cried.

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 23/10/2009 20:55

I used to love that bit in Heathers where Winona deliberately burns her hand with the cigarette lighter, so Christian uses the burn to light his cig. Am a bit now that I found that sexy...

FlameHasAnotherChick · 23/10/2009 20:55

running on empty was another river one i loved. sob hysterically every time

Monstermomi · 23/10/2009 20:55

don't even mention Johnny Depp. but then he's in another class.

bruffin · 23/10/2009 20:57

Have you seen Ducky in 2 and Half Men, he is very funny.

My favorite River Phoenix is Running on Empty.

DH always had a thing about Morry Ringwald

I put on Ferris Bueller for DS 14 to see after not watching it for years, big coincidence as in the morning it was on the news that John Hughes had died the day before.

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 23/10/2009 20:58

I thought I recognised him!

Urgh, hated Ferris Bueller. Lover War Games though. That was Ally Sheedy as well.

southeastastra · 23/10/2009 20:58

omg yes it's duckie! never thought they were the same person

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 23/10/2009 20:59

Loved.

Monstermomi · 23/10/2009 21:01

War Games... personal favourite. Matthew Broderick. sigh.
Anyone ever see Ladyhawke with Matthew Broderick? very 80s. with Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer

FlameHasAnotherChick · 23/10/2009 21:06

If we're moving onto Johnny then Cry Baby has to be mentioned

It took me ages to get my head round Duckie in 2 & a half men

southeastastra · 23/10/2009 21:07

he needs a stick on quiff

Ledodgy · 23/10/2009 21:08

Oh I love the Breakfast Club. Yes it is sad. I loved all the Brat pak films, pretty in Pink, Sixteen candles, The outsiders. Ahh

glitterkitty · 23/10/2009 21:08

who is duckie?

FlameHasAnotherChick · 23/10/2009 21:10

Pretty in Pink - Duckie

southeastastra · 23/10/2009 21:11

molly looks like she's sucking a lemon in that picture

duckie was a nice character, a girl's best friend

glitterkitty · 23/10/2009 21:13

Oh. Him.

I also wanted to be madonna in desperatly seeking susan- I had fingerless lace gloves, bangles ankle boots etc but it was not the same on ginger 15yr old schoolgirl

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 23/10/2009 21:14

I hate the dress she 'customises' in PIP. Looks like a sack.

FlameHasAnotherChick · 23/10/2009 21:16

yup, was hideous

southeastastra · 23/10/2009 21:16

wasn't it meant to be a timesless classic would have been all rara skirt otherwise, though the americans still liked those tafetta type dresses for proms didn't they?

Sunshinemummified · 23/10/2009 21:33

Hi it's the OP. OMG i can't believe everyone else loves all these films - Outsiders, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller, Some Kind of Wonderful, War Games, St Elmos Fire, Breakfast Club were my particular favourites.

Cry Baby had Traci Lords in it non? She is a DP fave (porn star past and all).

Heathers I have never watched but I actually work with 5 Heathers at the moment which is really freaking me out.

And I never realised that Duckie was in two and a half men.

But back to Breakfast Club - it's still making me sad. It has suddenly morphed from my fantasy of being in an american high School and meeting these kind of characters to me being a mum, scooping up Judd Nelson and giving him the parental love he needs .

Oh and on a frivolous note does anyone else fancy James Spader's character in PIP?
