I was yawping at my telly and then missed a chunk of it due to furiously scrabbling around to log in to the BBC website and leave a great big squawky rant - basically why wasn't there someone there to jump up when DG was going on about Muslim misogy and quote all those demented white papers from the BNP about locking up teenager mothers and meeasuring the length of their skirts?

cherryblossoms · 23/10/2009 00:22

Policywonk - well put!

I just erased a fumbling rant towards that - to find you've put it really pithily.

I am sooooo impressed!

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 23/10/2009 00:26

Yes, SGB. I was screaming at the tv when he was talking about that and I thought that Warsi would have been jumping out of her chair quoting his White Paper back at him.

NG has SO much more in common with the extreme side of Islam that he actually realises when it comes to women. Grrr!

Mamazonabroomstick · 23/10/2009 00:28

you made my pint much better than i could have PW.

Solid - because Dimbleby must have been told not to allow any questions about policy

Sky 3 right now is a show called "BNP wives"
it is astounding!

Thanks cherry Don't be too impressed, it's taken me an hour to squeeze that out.

StretchStinkyandFatso · 23/10/2009 00:30

Oh well DaftPunk certainly fits the bill - mind you, doesn't s/he like trying to be the most OutrageousPoliticallyIncorrect poster on MN? It might be saying that for effect.

MamaGoblin · 23/10/2009 00:41

Didn't read this thread while it was on - DH and I were too busy clenching buttocks, dropping jaws etc.

Agree with Aitch that it's going to be all too easy for NG to complain that he was ganged up on/picked on the whole time, and be able to transmit that message effectively to his supporters, most of whom probably didn't watch anyway. But wouldn't that always have been the case?

Was rather disappointed by Jack Straw - he seems to have lost a lot of his fire. He was really fumbling at the start.

Look, I liked the Dimbleby tie. Nice acid green shade. Am I really the only one who did?

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 23/10/2009 00:44

I liked Dimblebys tie.....it gave NGs right eye something to focus on....

MamaGoblin · 23/10/2009 00:46

at Squeezy!

duffpancake · 23/10/2009 00:48

I thought it was kind of cringe-worthy that Straw felt the need to bring up his Jewish background-- as if you had to establish some kind of ethnic cred to be offended by the BNP's view.

Mamazonabroomstick · 23/10/2009 00:49

it was indeed very much on a par to "my neighbour is asian so i know what its like"

OP posts:
electra · 23/10/2009 01:21

I thought Jack Straw appeared to be upset and his voice was shaking from the outset which really, would be understandable. I think he looked personally affected.

electra · 23/10/2009 01:23

I remember reading a thread on MN years ago where Jewish posters talked about how particularly upsetting holocaust denial is for a person whose family were directly affected.

electra · 23/10/2009 01:25

The BNP have pulled their website.

duffpancake · 23/10/2009 01:50

It's true, NG tossing around the term 'genocide' is pretty offensive to anyone on that panel-- and DD did not allow anyone to challenge him on it, why? Why!?

Wonderstuff · 23/10/2009 08:44

I felt the last question, about the DM article, was the one Dick Griffin came out worse on, I thought it was a shame that they wasted 20 mins at the start attacking the BNP when actually just asking 'normal' QT questions would have shown him up more? I think that actually Warsi did pull him up on the genocide thing, she did ask him if he understood the term (he didn't seem to) and tell him how completely offensive he was to use it.

DuelingFANGo · 23/10/2009 08:49

"I thought it was kind of cringe-worthy that Straw felt the need to bring up his Jewish background" he didn't just bring it up ouot of the blue though, he mentioned it in context I thought.

Wonderstuff I agree.

BobbingForPeachys · 23/10/2009 08:54

I thought the same as Electra about the JAc Straw voice thing. Holocaust denial is- beyond description. It really is. As was referring to a genocide-er where? Revolting.

I don't think amny (a few did) in the audience came across well, however I applauded (OK so I am a strane person) JS's 'speech' at the start about the wars and the memorials.

Incredibly impressed with BG, absolutely.

Agree that the hard of balanced thinking won't have watched QT but a lot of the people NG needed to impress most- his ownlot, esp. the toplevels- will have, and cannot have been impressd at that show.

In all truth I cam away thinking that if he iswhat Cambridge throws out to the world, maybe I should have applied there after all.

BobbingForPeachys · 23/10/2009 08:55

Apols fortyping, posting with a wriggly toddler both BF and jumping up and down simultaneously LOL. Challenging.

Wonderstuff · 23/10/2009 09:19

I have never thought NG a good speaker, the other MEP they have though is much more sinister, much more articulate.

SolidGhoulBrass · 23/10/2009 09:28

I thought Griffin was supposed to be the best they can do - a 'charming articulate appealing' representative, as BNP opponents tend to say in terrified fashion - FFS the man's a squirming, swivel-eyed, sniggering thug of an overgrown schoolboy and lamentably ignorant with it.
This is why I think it was good to have him on Question Time, he made himself look a complete twat (though as PW said, the rest of the panel (and half the audience) did sometimes seem to be having a 'Look! I hate the BNP too! Mememe!' session.

electra · 23/10/2009 09:38

SGB - I completely agree - good way to sum him up!

BobbingForPeachys · 23/10/2009 10:22

Yep SGB, bang on.
