aaaagh. what happened? how did it end?? (not the sentence but the "reveal")??

simplesusan · 09/10/2009 22:05

Hi all

I thought it was a superb ending. Absolutely gutted but completely realistic as women who do kill are very often more severly punished than men iyswim. Much better than an ambiguous ending or cop out of lets all run off into the sunset.

Fantastic acting I thought by Maxine Peake

she told the jury all the things we knew

Was I the only one when the CCTV footage was shown that yelled out to the amusement annoyance of Dh "SIGNIFICANT VASELINE!!!!!" and dissolved into giggles?

I don't think I would watch one of these again as I think the creative might of MN had this wrapped up days ago. Apart from her intending to kill herself, don't think anyone got that one

Cup of tea reference, the horrid inmate who sugared the Scouser whipped out a tampax from her fanjo and dipped it in a cup of tea then served it to a SW who pulled this face

armbow · 09/10/2009 22:05

I don't understand that bit about licence - so if she leaves prison after 2.5 years .. she gets life in prison ??

I don't like the judge.....

I think the judge just proved the total incarceration of some abused women - he had the power to make it right and didn't.

too confused....

me too feeling optimistic - bit too close to the bone even though i was not entirely convinced by the storyline.

would it really be an automatic adoption? Couldn't the baby be fostered for a the extra year surely.

woodforthetrees · 09/10/2009 22:06

I thought that too EWE - surely time served would be taken off total sentence so she'd probably only have another year and half (although didnt'she go in there just after baby was born - d'you remember the social worker getting her the board interview blah blah)

CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 22:06

control she finally admitted she's been buggered by him every night, never had proper sex

cremolasmissingcustard · 09/10/2009 22:06

Didn't maxine morph into Miranda Richardson?

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 09/10/2009 22:06

oh yeah and if anyone is interested the spoiler I had during the week was
He plays the guy who got her pregnant

Tears here at the baby being taken from her . Though for a horrible moment I thought she was going to kill the baby or something.

foxinsocks · 09/10/2009 22:08

dh just called it 5 days of unrelenting misery lol

hate watching children being taken away from their mothers

PutDown · 09/10/2009 22:08

Cybil,ROFL at being put off vaseline
From the minute that bloody tub appeaed I KNEW IT WAS TROUBLE..
Am tearful though at loss of baby...
Have warned DH that he will get same if he appears with said product....

CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 22:08

She used to play the dippy one in 'Dinnerladies' didn't she?

GoppingOtter · 09/10/2009 22:08

i think the miranda richardson bit was the ruth ellis correlation

i guessed the whole thing - must be mental too!

interestingly i thought all such cases were a 50-50 jury in gender...any lawyers know?

woodforthetrees · 09/10/2009 22:09

that judge knew completely what he was doing - he looked like he was showing her sympathy and then took away the only joy left in her life at that moment ie her baby....he was biased no doubt about it but did it in a subtle way.

simplesusan · 09/10/2009 22:09

If she got 5 years then they might take the time already served off that.
The judge was a good friend of the dead man (said in earlier episode)so always suggested that he would err on side of the prosecution.
Very realistic I thought re the sentencing of female "criminals"

fabhead · 09/10/2009 22:09

the guy that wrote it is an ex-barrister so you would hope it was legally realistic ...

mrsruffallo · 09/10/2009 22:10

Her defence team were rubbish though weren't they?
Love the actresses but as professionals I wasn't very impressed

CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 22:10

Err,ladies...what the Sweet Baby Moses are we going to watch now?

cremolasmissingcustard · 09/10/2009 22:11

Dh agrees with your dh. I am being subjected to exploding helicopters and MEN in uniforms on fiver as penance

PutDown · 09/10/2009 22:11

Am tempted to watch episode one on Iplayer, just for another glimpse at the vaseline...

GoppingOtter · 09/10/2009 22:11

women get such a shit ride
