5 years, out in two and a half, but that's too long, she'll lose the baby. can that really happen??

MrsMorgan · 09/10/2009 22:00

5 years

castille · 09/10/2009 22:00

presume she'd get the baby back after that?

Puddingclub · 09/10/2009 22:00

so if a mother is convicted of a crime carrying a sentence of more than 18 months a child is automatically adopted? is that true?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 09/10/2009 22:00

Oh... my.... God.

MollieO · 09/10/2009 22:00

5 years, serve 2.5 released on license for 2.5

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 09/10/2009 22:00

but it was much more realistic than her being released and running into her daughters arms to live happily ever after

OP posts:
katsh · 09/10/2009 22:00

Sentence was 5 yrs with at least 2 1/2 to be served

armbow · 09/10/2009 22:00

Am I soft?

I am sat here in floods of tears.

cremolasmissingcustard · 09/10/2009 22:01

Oh Gawd I feel weak

fabhead · 09/10/2009 22:01

he said 5y and will serve 21/2 - yes it was a bit hit and miss - saying that it is shades of grey I suppose. I'm still not entirely convinced it was believable - why didnt she leave or say no

katsh · 09/10/2009 22:01

cross post

woodforthetrees · 09/10/2009 22:01

would it have been put up for adoption ?
God that was an awful way to end just before bed...

Puddingclub · 09/10/2009 22:01

I thought that the child could only stay in mother and baby unit until 18 mo. Surely then could be fostered for a year and returned to mother?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 09/10/2009 22:01

Come on LadyH, can that really happen?

armbow · 09/10/2009 22:01

shouldn't the baby go to the dad ??

LittleWhiteWolf · 09/10/2009 22:02

She got 5 years but would be out on a licence in half that time. But being out on a licences means she'd be a life sentence prisoner

I'm going to sound like a total pretentious arse now, but I thought the final shot of her pressed up against the glass in her room and screaming silently is evocative of the silent struggle every abused woman goes through.

Feel free to throw things...

woodforthetrees · 09/10/2009 22:02

me too armbow

Feelingoptimistic · 09/10/2009 22:03

Well, I was having a bad evening (anxiety and sadness due to various personal issues) and really should not have watched this. Have just been sitting here sobbing.

Right, I will have some soothing herbal tea and watch something funny.

castille · 09/10/2009 22:03

Adopted?

Surely not!

CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 22:03

'If you have been affected by any of the issues covered in this programme'

yes , it's put me right off vaseline.

Anyone else feel naggled by the fact all the investigating and revealing was actually done whilst the trial was going on? Why didn't that DVD come to light before hand?

TwoManyFallsAndYouGetABadScore · 09/10/2009 22:03

well I feel drained after that. Talk about harrowing.

Surely they would have appealed the sentence on the basis the judge knew Joe and therefore was biased. You can appeal sentences can't you?

Ewe · 09/10/2009 22:03

Tears here too. I am surprised that the time already served didn't contribute to sentence as that may have made it low enough? (Maybe not, the time frames were a bit odd imo)

Think it could have been done in less episodes though.

woodforthetrees · 09/10/2009 22:03

I was thinking dad could have her til she got out - suspect the wife of the doctor would be leaving her now anyway.

Maybe I'm being a bit naive
