if only to see Brendan Cole and i dont reckon he'll be around for long with Jo Wood!

Think Tuffers will be hysterical though.

Who are we tipping to win/be 1st one out?

OP posts:
Podrick · 20/09/2009 16:07

My favourites are:
Jade - great chemistry with Ian and love her personality
Chris - I have a soft spot for him, seems like a sweet guy - he is doing suprisingly well and gotta love Ola!
Gary - fab personality, very entertaining

which couple went out last night, I didn't see the end?

pinkteddy · 20/09/2009 16:10

Mathew Cutler and Martina Hingis. It was a close run thing though, Len's was the casting vote.

TheFoosa · 20/09/2009 16:12

Sallero - I thought the same about Jade, she's always gazing up at whatshisface and he looks VERY irritated by her

vivaGlasvegas · 20/09/2009 16:22

Is it just me, or is Chris Hollins incredibly difficult to age? He has the hair cut of a ten year old school boy and seems so terribly keen to please? James must be glad that Ola's with him and not Ricky Whittle!

MaryAmericanSmooth · 20/09/2009 16:57

not just you viva - he's ome of those men, like Clive Anderson who I imagine is the size of a thumb..

ancientgeordiegirl · 20/09/2009 18:31

hi never normally post but can confirm Chris Hollins is pint sized (about 5ft 6") and he's 37 or 38 (I was at Uni with him). He's a genuinely nice guy and will be getting my vote!

benjysmum · 20/09/2009 18:44

Compared to Arlene with her years of choreography experience etc, I just felt a bit let down by Aleesha. I think she was the perfect champ in her year but would prefer someone who actually has ballroom dancing experience and can comment on the technical aspects as well as talking about clothes.

purplepansy · 20/09/2009 19:58

Darcey Bussell on Strictly? But she's a ballerina not a ballroom dancer!
Get rid of Alesha (lovely, but clueless), and bring back Arlene. Total travesty that she went.
And get rid of Bruce Forsyth at the same time, horrible cringey dirty old man

LoveTheCarbs · 20/09/2009 21:14

Just watched it on the I-Player.. So many things to say, but will limit it to a couple of points..

Jo Calzaghe - OMG, could he be any more wooden and stompy? So disappointing, thought he would have rhythm..

Typical Ola oufit!

Surprise entertainment from the goldfish from Eastenders..

And lastly, Ali Bastion should stop being 'Oh, I'm not that good, it's such a surprise that everyone is saying nice things about me' when clearly she is very good!

mummytowillow · 20/09/2009 22:39

I'm so disappointed with Joe's dancing, thought he was going to be a god on the dance floor, lets hope its first week nerves and he turns into a Mark Rampracash .... yum yum!!

Alesha, has she got anything valid to say apart from 'your made for each other'!! She's a nice girl but bring back Arlene I say, at least she knew what she was talking about!

MyNameisJane · 20/09/2009 23:56

I liked Chris Hollins, Rav Wilding and will be keeping my eye on hollyoaks man.

I am disappointed in Aleshas performance and hope that she will be better next week. I'm glad Matthew and Martina were kicked out in the first week because I think Alesha had a conflict of interest.

Joe danced like Herman Munster ( opined my DH)

Ali was v good but if she had a tad less eye make up she'd be able to open them properly

Ola's outfit ? Full marks to Chris for being able to concentrate with that distraction. Or maybe he couldn't believe his luck?

Alesha - I said it'd never work. DH ( reluctantly) agreed after she'd said nothing twice.

( I don't like James)

RamblingRosa · 21/09/2009 08:21

Salleroo, DP and I noticed that Jade was a bit all over Ian too. All simpering and pouting.

Bucharest, that's interesting (in a salacious sleb goss kind of way!) about Christine B, Cowell, Chiles, and Cutler. I thought she had a boyfriend during the last series but there were rumours of her having an affair with Adrian Chiles. I didn't realise she was meant to be having affairs with Matthew and Simon Cowell as well. I need to read sleb goss magazines!

Looking forward to Claudia's programme tonight. I always think the weekday programmes are even better than the weekend ones in some ways. Claudia's brilliant.

RamblingRosa · 21/09/2009 08:23

Oh, and am I the only person who thought it was outrageous that Martina Hingis and that Rav bloke were in the dance off? Surely it should have been Joe Calzaghe and Lynda Bellingham?

LoveTheCarbs · 21/09/2009 08:57

I agree that Alesha wasn't that good but don't people think we need to give her a chance? It's only her first week.. The rest have been around for years and have their little niche.

I do think she should stop commenting on dance technique as no one takes what she says seriously as she isn't dance trained.

TBH I don't want Arlene back. If Alesha is to be changed then it should be another proper dance judge.. I used to mute Arlene because she used to make the most inane comments..

annh · 21/09/2009 10:11

Is anyone else finding it really difficult to get into Strictly this year? I can't cope with two long programmes over two nights (and they are too late finishing for ds2 who used to watch). None of the contestants are particularly interesting this year and Alesha's comments are completely inane. Mind you, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place as she is not qualified to comment on the dance moves and everyone just mentally raises their eyes to heaven when she talks about the contestants look or their clothes.

MumOfAPickle · 21/09/2009 11:13

Strictly was brill but Alesha, sadly, was not. I loved her when she won but she's not measuring up to Arlene. I'm sure the beeb jumped at the chance to have a non-white face in such a high profile role but I think they should have dumped Tess (vacuous, dead behind the eyes) or Bruce (or both) and she could present it - a much better fit for her. Or, at a push, get rid of Bruno and have her and Arlene on the panel.

On a lighter note am hopelessly excited about Ricky next week and have to rein it in slightly as I watch with DH.

Of and what the hell was that dress that the red-haired (new) pro was wearing (think she was dancing with Rav as I'm sure I had to see it twice). Had a good rant about that, silver leotard thing with a scraggy bit of old lace trailing between her legs. My worst strictly costume EVER!!

mosschops30 · 21/09/2009 11:19

I agree that Alesha should have been given a presenting role rather than a judge, although on the other hand, what does Dannii know about good music ????

I do wish theyd replace Bruce Forsyth, he's like an embarrassing grandparent, Im constantly cringing worrying what he's going to say next, I find him sad sad sad!
Tess is looking as rough as ever! DH said on Friday 'she looks like she should be falling out of a northern pub with a fag in one hand and a kebab in the other' . She's like a man in drag!

Also agree that Arlene was a PITA, she used to make her sentences rhyme and it was tedious 'ooh what a spangly sexy sensation you are Simon' ...oh shut up you stupid cow.
Get a professional dance judge in, I dont care who it is.

LennyW · 21/09/2009 12:26

Yes, definitely something a bit weird going on between Ian and his athlete celeb. I reckon they've had some kind of "liaison" and he now regrets it - that's my outtake from the body language. What do others think?

Stayingsunnygirl · 21/09/2009 12:45

I definitely didn't think that Martina and Matthew deserved to be out first - they certainly weren't the worst dancers, imo!

jsgirl · 21/09/2009 13:33

So disappointed with Joe. I really, really hope it "clicks" with him and he's just a slow starter, although from the brief look at the rehearsals, I don't think that's going to be the case. And I'd tipped him to be one of the favourites - with the proviso though that he could actually be really rubbish!

I liked Chris Hollins, he seems very sweet. He's Carrie's ex isn't he? (Carrie who does the sport on Radio 1 breakfast show - yes, I admit I listen to it). She was talking about it this morning and from what I can remember - it was quite early - she seems to be rooting for him.

Thought Lynda was quite bad but have no doubt she'll be kept in for a while.

Agree that they need to lay off the eye make up on Ali. Mind you, I found her a little bit annoying as well. Did you see her rehearsing the rumba with Brian, in particular the way she was pointing her toes? That looked liked more than a few weeks practice to me.

Would like to say more (oh my word, I love Strictly and DH isn't really that interested) but I'd better get back to work!

jsgirl · 21/09/2009 13:33

Sorry, few weeks' practice (not like me to miss an apostrophe and will now panic for the rest of the afternoon that I've put it in the wrong place).

mumbot · 21/09/2009 14:14

Agreed that Arlene was a bit on the annoying side - I like Aleesha but not as a judge, she isn't adding much so far

If they wanted a celeb judge and not a dancing expert then they should have picked someone a bit more interesting or fiery. Peter Kay would be a great choice for me (not that he'd do it) but someone like Lily Savage could do equal damage - but in a funny way.

KSal · 21/09/2009 14:40

definitely something funny going on with Jade and Ian... pleased that others have noticed it too.... she's waaaayyyy over clingy with him and he is basically blanking her. that will be interesting to watch!!

did anyone else think that Joe looked much better in rehearsal than on the actual night? I am hoping that a lot of the problem was nerves.

loved cris hollins, i thought he managed to be quite sexy on the saturday night (LOL at James keeping an eye on him!)
