if only to see Brendan Cole and i dont reckon he'll be around for long with Jo Wood!

Think Tuffers will be hysterical though.

Who are we tipping to win/be 1st one out?

craig has stood up for alesha today he is apprently very angry at how people are slating her, saying we need to give her time.He said that if you watched the first series of scd you will see thay were all a bit rubbish to begin with.I feel abit sorry for her and i hope she does get better,it cetainaly won't stop me watching i watch it for the dancing not the judging.I'm liking chris, jade and ali at the moment, and ricky was hilairous. Can't wait for next week

evansmummy · 21/09/2009 18:24

I was really disappointed with this weekend's shows. I'd got myself so excited about the whole Strictly return, that I just felt let down. I missed Arlene, Tess pisses me off something rotten, Bruce is annoying, Alesha was not that good, Ola annoyed me with her ridiculous costume (is she a professional dancer or a stripper??), the music was mostly awful, the costumes dull...

I do of course realise that it's the first week, but what a shame. Looking forward to Claudia though!

cyteen · 21/09/2009 19:18

My problem with the appointment of Alesha to the judges' panel isn't a problem with her at all - I loved her during her winning season and she's always come across as a smart, friendly, genuine girl who obviously loves dancing. But SCD's strength has always been that it is about learning a skill and so contestants are judged as such. I just don't think it's fair on anyone (Alesha, contestants, fellow judges, us!) to replace a professional dancer and choreographer with an enthusiastic person who's had minimal training. Not to mention the fact that, as annoying as Arlene's alliterations were (and they really were), it's still pretty shit that the sole female judge gets bumped for a younger model when all the ageing male talent is allowed to just stroll on.

I realise all this has been said already, but had to get it off my chest

Anyway, agree that Jade is making a tit of herself being all over the lovely Ian, who looks rather embarrassed by it all. Ali Bastian is sweet and has nice lines but is just as wet as her character was on Hollyoaks. Chris BBC Sports Guy definitely much stronger than I thought - really enjoyed his latin.

I love the three new female professionals. Katya is stunning Feel v sorry for the fragrant Kristina, once again getting stuck with the dud.

BettySuarez · 21/09/2009 21:42

I think that the BBC have made a major mistake appointing Alesha. I have nothing against the girl at all but just found her contribution cringeworthy.

I also thought that some of the dancers (celebrity and professional) found it hard to disguise their dislike of her (or her comments at least)

And yes, I feel that Arlene was evicted purely because of her age which makes me [cross]

evansmummy · 22/09/2009 09:28

Bless Alesha though, on ITT. She did try to defend herself, and has redeemed herself every so slightly in my book. I do feel a bit sorry for her, it prob wasn't her idea in the first place. There should be backlash against the BBC though for dumping older Arlene in favour of a younger and less qualified person.

So pleased to see Claud though. She's my girl crush...

LoveTheCarbs · 22/09/2009 10:08

I feel I was a bit harsh on Ali Bastion. She was so nervous on ITT, so I can imagine she feels 10x that on the actual show.

Alesha certainly stood up for herself. I'm going to be interested to see how she gets on in this series, to see if people's opinions change of her and whether in the end, they replace her next year with one of the professional dancers who are no longer on the show eg Camilla or Karen. Interesting!

I think the first few weeks are never that good as you still have all the duffers in and it gets better once the celebs can actually dance a little bit..

PolkSaladLucie · 22/09/2009 10:49

I have heard, from my reliably placed source at the Beeb, that Arlene went as she and Len clashed a lot, and Alesha was brought in at Len's suggestion. Arlene was always so pervy - commenting on the men, and talking about sex - euch. The first week or two is always fairly trivial (good partnership, loked good etc.)

Also, Matthew Cutler is not gay, Ian Waite is the only male pro who is, and that seems to be the reason for tension between him and Jade...

forehead · 22/09/2009 19:03

I have just been watching It Takes Two. The BBC needs Karen Hardy as a judge , she is fantastic.

PolkSaladLucie · 22/09/2009 20:00

Yes, but I wondered if she is pregnant? She spent the whole time with her leg and arm across her stomach and I know she has one little one. There has to be a good reason why she is not competing this year...

Salleroo · 22/09/2009 20:13

Does Jade reckon she can turn Ian? I'll look forward to her simpering up to him and his cringes.

Ali (good dancer though she may be) is wet. She should be paired up with Brian, then I could happily make a cup of tea while they are on.

I liked Karen Hardy. Ola the stripper is good eye candy though.

Salleroo · 22/09/2009 20:43

She is paired up with Brian! Doh!!!

evansmummy · 22/09/2009 21:51

Just watched ITT on iplayer. I think I actually love Claudia.

Bomper · 22/09/2009 23:06

Matthew Cutler is not gay!!!! REALLY?!!!

kristinaRIAnoff · 23/09/2009 00:37

just watched the first show on I player.

Is it wrong to love Tuffers? I thought he started the group dance with snaky hips I thought.

Am looking forward to Darcy Bussell, but how similar is ballet to ballroom?

Bruce's make-up was very heavy. Is he ill?

Bomper · 23/09/2009 11:56

It's not wrong to love Tuffers, I love him too!!

georgepig · 24/09/2009 10:15

i reckon tuffers will be hilarious!

Just off topic slightly, does anyone else think Brendan would just be "out of this world amazingly good" in bed?

OP posts:
RamblingRosa · 24/09/2009 10:22

Georgepig, that's just so wrong!!

Brendan's vile.

Ricky Whittle on the other hand....

Made me laugh lots when Claudia said of Ricky, "naughty with a natural sense of rythm? Tick!"

TALLULAHBELLEOFTHEBALLROOM · 24/09/2009 12:54

Me too Georgepig .

RamblingRosa · 24/09/2009 14:19

Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Has anyone posted on here yet about the newspaper reports that Joe Calzaghe (sp?) and Kristina are an item? I thought I picked up on something between them on Saturday night.

SmallScrewCap · 24/09/2009 14:26

Ooh Rosa, that's a choice chunk of gossip!

I am breastfeeding a newborn round the clock at the moment, and since our house is bedlam between the hours of about 6 and 9pm I've been catching up with the shows in chunks overnight. I reckon Strictly is going to be my solid companion for my sleep-deprived run-up to Christmas. It's ace - maternity leave, snuggly baby, loads of time in bed and Strictly. Bliss!

FimboFortunaFeet · 24/09/2009 14:29

I thought the judges were a bit harsh on Rav, there were far worse dancers than him (Lynda being one).

Yes RR I read that about Joe and Kristina but then it wouldn't be Strictly without some romance rumours. I always thought Tom and Camilla should have be a couple.

RamblingRosa · 24/09/2009 14:46

Ah smallscrewcap, that brings back happy memories of breastfeeding DD sat in a rocking chair in front of SCD for what seemed like hours Almost two years ago now.

MrsBrendanCole · 24/09/2009 15:32

Tallulah - Oh my! He'd just know exactly what to do and....oh my!

cyteen · 24/09/2009 15:35

SmallScrewCap I was in a very similar position this time last year Enjoy (and congratulations).

Seeline · 24/09/2009 15:44

Fimbo - Camilla did go on honeymoon with Tom and his new wife didn't she? But an item . MrsBrendanCole
