I wondered if anyone knows when Ashes is back? Can't be too long now surely?

Have been watching Life on Mars again on BT Vision and forgot how jaw-droppingly fab it was....

Blimey . You're not wrong - very filthy - thanks for the link .

Do you watch Mad Men, Kay? I reckon Don Draper would be right up your, ahem, alley, so to speak (sorry). Mind you, he has plenty of sex in the programme, so maybe there's less incentive to write about it.

JeMeSouviens · 28/04/2009 20:28

DH has just wasted hours of his life watching the American remake of Life on Mars, and it ends....drum roll please...... with a bunch of astronauts coming back from a mission to MARS! They were on a "gene hunt" to find former life or some such, and Gene Hunt was actually called Tom! Sam had been in some sort of stupor and came out of it when they returned to earth.

I am so glad I wasn't tempted and gleefully told him, I told you so! (You can't better a Brit original)

MamazonFirstladyofFilth · 28/04/2009 20:30

last nights episode was excellent. i laughed ut loud so often.

i loved the "no, its just the way im standing"
and "come on Eileen"
and....well pretty much everything the sex god said.

loved the "Tyler" curve ball, very clever.

Dp has been asked to join the masons a couple of times but is convinced its actually some homo erotic swingers club

BitOfFun · 28/04/2009 23:25

Very good Kay- cuts straight to the chase

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 29/04/2009 13:32

told you.

Ian Wylie's blog has some very interesting tidbits about a returning character with some surprising news for Gene, and lots of hints about further UST between Alex and Gene.

And what can the clue 'dancing with the devil' mean?

VictorianSqualor · 29/04/2009 20:08

Hmmm, maybe hunt's world is limbo and your soul is being fought for by two sides (or not, indulge me )
It would explain why Sam went back to gene hunt's world after committing suicide...

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 30/04/2009 10:41

Warning, serious spoilerage... What can this mean?

and look, I managed to write something unsmutty!

JackieNo · 30/04/2009 16:50

PG said on Radio 2 that they'd had to get another car, because the original one couldn't do handbrake turns, or something, and they got another one and took it to the people who make James Bond's cars (well, you know what I mean ), to get it modified. So it may be as simple as that...

Will read your latest later, Kay

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 30/04/2009 19:28

Yeah, that explains the two Audi Quattro's. (Can't work out if there should be an apostrophe there or not...)

But what about the third car?

procrastinatingparent · 01/05/2009 10:06

Gorgeous romantic writing, Kay and fantastically in character.

JackieNo · 01/05/2009 16:05

Kay, that was lovely. The dancing with the devil one. Thank you.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 01/05/2009 16:30

Cheers m'dears. It's nice to know I can competently write something other than shagging

(seriously, people, the third car? Has no-one worked it out yet, or are you just studiously avoiding spoilers?)

procrastinatingparent · 01/05/2009 17:43

I'm too thick to work out the third car.

(Think you might be able to better M & B on that form, btw. Seriously romantic!)

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 01/05/2009 17:52

Aw, thanks PP, that's really encouraging given that I've done about 6000 words on the M&B manuscript and was feeling a little lacking in confidence!

The third car is an Audi TT. Which didn't exist until about 1999 at the earliest...

Anyone noticed that Adrian Dunbar (quite a well known actor) has been in the credits for the last two weeks as Matthew Somebody but not actually been on screen. He must be the mystery man/doctor/Freemason who drugged Alex...

Will sort of spoil the twist if he turns up in the next couple of weeks and we're meant to think he's a goody but we know otherwise.

I think Keeley Hawes is fab!

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 04/05/2009 20:47

BettyTurnip, not at all. I am one of the people who loved her in the first series and I still think she's fab. In fact, I think she looks distractingly gorgeous in the newer outfits.

Um, this is you ten-ish minute warning!!

gizmo · 04/05/2009 20:59

Hola, Kay - nice weekend?

gizmo · 04/05/2009 21:01

Oh fab, they've got Morph!

lottiejenkins · 04/05/2009 21:34

they have just made a mistake!! They played is there something i should know by duran duran..........it came out in 1983!!!

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 04/05/2009 22:12

gizmo, not too bad. I'm still here, after all. I bought a corset and the Ashes to Ashes first series box set.

And now the buggers are giving me Gene scorning The Joy of Sex because he doesn't need a manual. Marvellous.

She's a bit easily taken in, is our Alex. Nothing the blokey was saying was especially connected to her, but she was like (pardon the pun) a rabbit in the headlights.

But a very big snurk at her coming back to life while GH is lying on top of her...

And you're all squeeing like loons no doubt over the next week trailer. I'm stroking my chin knowingly at some of the bigger surprises in store.

And rather relieved because the Jackie Queen storyline is likely to be not nearly as detrimental to Gene/Alex as I feared because they've given away the 'Big surprise' in the ruddy trailer!

gizmo · 04/05/2009 22:17

Corset...naice. Quite a long way from floral dresses, no? I have a lovely one from here if you fancy a bit of online retailing.

Yes, am squeeing a bit at next week's trailer. Forgive me, I have not had time to catch up with whole thread (my mumsnetting is sporadic these days) - how come you have prior knowledge? Are you in fact from 2019, and you've just been choked to the edge of death by a speeding sausage roll?

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 04/05/2009 22:31

Actually I am suffering from concussion after I was struck by a flying fruitshoot.

The BBC accidently released a wee bit too much info in the episode 5 press release, which they have since amended and asked people who were privy to it not to give it away. It's a bit enormous but doesn't involved Jackie Queen, as far as I know. My info, as always, comes from being a detailed-focused geek who frequents blogs and forums alongside other detail-obsessed geeks.

And yes, Vollers.. ge-ow-jus corsets. Mine is blue with black detailing, and it's a 22" waist. Tried it on in the shop wearing blue jeans and it looked fab. And I've booked in to get my hair cut on Saturday, so yes, goodbye floral dresses and long, uncut hair, and hello corsets and assymetric bob.

gizmo · 04/05/2009 22:51

22 inches? . That'll be a side effect of those cheese and jalapeno sarnies, I guess.

You're sure the asymmetric bob isn't some further subconscious homage to Nick Rhodes? I'm not sure he's Gene's kind of guy, myself.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 04/05/2009 22:59

Are you insane?

Actually, it'll be nice and sleek and I'll be able to curl it up and pretend to be Alex Drake.

I only actually have a 22" waist in the corset, normally it's 26"
