I wondered if anyone knows when Ashes is back? Can't be too long now surely?

Have been watching Life on Mars again on BT Vision and forgot how jaw-droppingly fab it was....

OP posts:
Katisha · 08/06/2009 22:18

He was a baddie whose life was ruined by guilt so he became a goodie inasmuch as he tried to reverse the thing that made him a baddie.

JackieNo · 08/06/2009 22:18

I thought the guilt was eating Summers up, so he wanted the bent policement who organised Op Rose to get caught. Or am I more confused than I thought (quite possible )?

edam · 08/06/2009 22:18

'You've been quattroed' was fab. As was Gene on Jackanory.

But yes, felt a bit too much like 'here comes series 3'. Dunno, I really feel the need for Ashes to Ashes Confidential, like Dr Who Confidential - surely it can't just STOP!

JackieNo · 08/06/2009 22:18

Yes - what Katisha said .

summerbird · 08/06/2009 22:19

so was the '2008' Summers actually the 1982 Summers or was he the 1982 Chris??? Sorry if i am being thick but i shouldnt read conspiracy theories!! The way he spoke to Chris was as if he was really Chris and not Summers!

I like the way it was left with her dithering between 1982 and 2008 though!

Redfox · 08/06/2009 22:21

I too, feel a bit short changed. I was hoping for a steamy encounter between Gene & Alex

Katisha · 08/06/2009 22:21

He wasn't Chris. He was just saying that Chris had been left in the same position he)Summers) had been in - ie perpetrating a crime. And that the guilt would stay with him (Chris) in the same way it had with him (Summers)

TigersChick · 08/06/2009 22:23

I quite liked the end ... it kept you (well, me) wondering if the whole third series thing was a wind-up or not, right to the end.

The middle bit of a trilogy pretty much always feels abit strange; you've been introduced to the characters in Series 1 and it'll all be wrapped p in series 3 ... so series 2 is ...

Summers was Summers - both of them

WRT the whole Gene/Alex thing ... I guess they have to keep something back ...

TigersChick · 08/06/2009 22:25

I agree, Katisha, but what Summers didn't know was that Chris wasn't part of the crime - he won't be wracked with guilt; at least not over that particular crime.

BTW - what do we all think of Shaz's dress???

saintlydamemrsturnip · 08/06/2009 22:28

wikipedia says there's a third series .

Alex has to get it on with gene surely.

Oh and the third series reveals who gene is, allegedly.

glitteryb6 · 08/06/2009 22:29

i really wanted an older Gene Hunt to walk into Alex's hospital room!!

JackieNo · 08/06/2009 22:30

I thought the bit with Shaz in her dress was very cool .

TigersChick · 08/06/2009 22:30

saintlydamemrsturnip - there's a link on this thread (from JackieNo, I think) to the BBC story with an interview with Mr Hunt

SolidGoldBrass · 08/06/2009 22:38

Hmm. 'A very angry man... but it was peaceful at the end...' What does that imply???

Katisha · 08/06/2009 22:40

That was Summers dying peacefully because Gene had made him think good thoughts just before he died.

MamaHobgoblin · 08/06/2009 23:03

Had to look at this thread in order to sort out what happened tonight! I thought it was meant to be Gene under the blanket at the end, but I wasn't really concentrating.

Was also waiting for an older Gene to walk into her hospital room, but that would've been grotesque, surely? Old, wrinkly Gene. Older and wrinklier, I mean.

elderlyprimagravida · 08/06/2009 23:07

Yeh, but I don't think Alex & Gene can ever "happen". There's chemistry, but god, they would be a nightmare. And once they'd have done the deed, the script-writers would be up the swanee without paddles - where would all the frisson go?

Perhaps best left to your imagination Redfox, nudge nudge.

PerfectPrefect · 08/06/2009 23:10

I am not sure that I will ever eat a battered sausage ever again.

On the radio this evening they were saying that the 3rd series would explain "exactly what Gene Hunts world is". All sounds very intriguing.....

Anniek · 09/06/2009 08:21

I loved it .

Think I read on here there were looking to do an Empire strikes back thing on this season, and they did

It makes me so happy, it takes me back to 1982, sitting around the swings with my brother trying to work out how they were going to save Han solo from the carbon freeze, and what Luke was going to do about the fact Darth Vader was his Dad.... fast forward me and hubby sitting on the sofa trying to work out how Alex can go back save Gene but have enough control to get home to her daughter again... I'm such a happy little geek today

summerbird · 09/06/2009 08:32

The scene when Shaz turned up in her wedding dress was pure 80's brilliance - very 'Visage'

Thanks for the Chris/Summers clarification ladies!

abraid · 09/06/2009 08:44

I loved it but felt I would have liked another interaction between Gene and Alex--he never had a chance to admit he'd been wrong.

I wish they'd stop the blogs and extras. Everything should be there in the programmes themselves. If it needs to run over into other media, it loses something.

shergar · 09/06/2009 13:46

But that ending.....had Alex made it back to present, or was she in a coma in 1982 after being shot, thinking she was back in the present? Her seeing Gene Hunt on all the TVs like that made me think she hadn't made it back yet at all, but was still in 1982 and comatose there.

Can you be in a coma in the past while in a coma in the future? Too much to think about, brain imploding...

hippipotamiHasLost36Pounds · 09/06/2009 14:34

I thought she had made it back to the present - the hospital looked modern, Mollie was there, Summers (dead) was wheeled past.
I think Gene on the monitors was her subconcious pulling her back to 1982.
I felt a bit dissatisfied by last nights episode, and now have to wait a year to see more

Hassled · 09/06/2009 14:36

She was definately back in the present, because Mollie was there. And yes, that was dead 2008 Summers being wheeled past. Buts she's also in a coma in 1982, hence seeing Gene on the TV.

Katisha · 09/06/2009 14:38

So it's probably a case of which reality does she eventually choose to die in so she can live in the other one, a la Sam Tyler.
