I wondered if anyone knows when Ashes is back? Can't be too long now surely?

Have been watching Life on Mars again on BT Vision and forgot how jaw-droppingly fab it was....

KayHarker......... where are you? What did you think of it???

I was disapointed with the end! I wanted a bit of romance between Gene and Alex!!

TigersChick · 09/06/2009 16:23

I'm so intrigued about the teasers they've dropped WRT the next series - that we get to find out what Gene's world is all about!

Just a thought ... you know the photo of the 3 cars?? Do you think GH will show up in the present in the next series? We thought that it pointed to a future series based in the 90s but ...

JackieNo · 09/06/2009 16:37

Maybe she has to find Gene in the present, so she can right the wrong of him having been wrongly accused of shooting her (well, as he said, he did shoot her, but not they way they think he did).

belgo · 09/06/2009 16:44

Just watched this. I really thought the older Summers was actually Chris. That makes more sense to me anyway, who has only seen about three episodes of the whole series so I really don't know much of what is going on.

Shaz's wedding dress was absolutely fab. As was Gene Hunt reading Jackonory - should get him to do the voiceover on In The Night Garden. A bit less sickly sweet then Derek Jacobi.

abraid · 09/06/2009 16:51

My husband had the delicious idea of Gene somehow ending up in 2009 and using his policing methods in contemporary London.

tiredandgrumpy · 09/06/2009 20:01

I feel utterly bereft now this series has finished. Totally shocked myself by shedding tears as the credits rolled! Of course the ending was good and of course they couldn't get together if there's going to be another, but still...

I think Tigerschick's suggestion of a Gene in the present day the best resolution - they can get together and Alex can be with Molly. Ahh. Perfect.

JackieNo · 09/06/2009 22:29

But he'll be really old in the present day, won't he? If he's in, say, his late 40s in the 1980s (does that sound right?), he'll be in his late 60s in the present day.

TigersChick · 10/06/2009 07:26

Not necessarily - did his age change between LOM and A2A?
I'm not convinced that he is 'human' so could, possibly, be in the present but still be the same age ... I remember that there was some speculation during the first series that he could be some kind of angel ...

JackieNo · 10/06/2009 08:11

Ah, true TigersChick - his age didn't seem to change much between LoM and A2A. You could be right.

summerbird · 10/06/2009 10:07

aw but i dont want them to get together as i love the ST between them

and Gene adopting his 1970s/80s policing in the next century is a cool idea!!

Katisha · 10/06/2009 10:39

Where's Kay? I need to know what to think.

shergar · 10/06/2009 16:36

O.K., I watched the ending of A2A again yesterday on iPlayer, and as Alex sits up and rips off her IV line when she sees Gene on the monitor, she says, "Oh my God, I'm in a coma in 1982!". So I'm thinking she is still in 1982, and hasn't yet made it back.

hippipotamiHasLost36Pounds · 11/06/2009 14:06

See, I am thinking she is back. Because when she was in a coma in the present day, she was 'alive' in 1982. Now she is back 'alive' in the present day but in a coma in 1982. A bit like night and day, awake in one, asleep in the other.

summerbird · 11/06/2009 15:16

i agree with hippipo and my head too is now exploding!!

MitchyInge · 11/06/2009 15:22

I hope it's not going to be like the US version where they're all on a spaceship on a literal hunt for some genetic thing or other (gene hunt)

they wouldn't do that to us would they?

MitchyInge · 11/06/2009 15:23

I've also assumed Gene will show up in present day, don't see where else they can go with it now?

hippipotamiHasLost36Pounds · 11/06/2009 16:29

If they do to us what the Americans did I shall go on strike, pelt the BBC with rotten eggs and demand an audience with Gene Hunt himself ....

lottiejenkins · 11/06/2009 17:50

I cant understand why Kay hasnt said anything...........

hippipotamiHasLost36Pounds · 11/06/2009 17:58

Agree about Kay, where is she? I don't often contribute on this thread but I very much read it and Kay is always there with wise theories and more!

I was watching episode 6 or 7 last night - and stopped mid-way through because I was bored. Is it heresy to say that on this thread?

I will finish but I feel strangely uninspired. Tell me it's worth it!

KayHarkerIsKayHarker · 23/06/2009 17:07

Sorry all - I was unavoidably detained and have only just seen it.

Thought it was suitably wierd, and Empire-Strikes-Back-ish, but naturally it felt a bit unsatisfying for that. They killed my ship stone-dead, which didn't make me happy, but hopefully a third series will make it up to me. Feel a bit 'meh' about another third series, and they were clearly yanking our chains with the Audi TT, the sods.

BTW, those fearing an American Life On Mars style ending, fear not, our erstwhile creators hated the American ending, so they won't be replicating it.

JackieNo · 24/06/2009 17:58

Good to see you back, Kay .

procrastinatingparent · 30/06/2009 13:19

Well, I've finished watching at last (RL always gets in the way!) and I just can't see how Gene and Alex can ever be together, so I'm a bit hummmph. At least it explained the Summers thing which had confused me hideously so I feel better about that.

The good thing is that the writers obviously have much more imagination than me so let's hope that can resolve it without any spaceship-style disasters.
