I wondered if anyone knows when Ashes is back? Can't be too long now surely?

Have been watching Life on Mars again on BT Vision and forgot how jaw-droppingly fab it was....

Every interview and tidbit I've heard indicates this is the last series. I think ep.8 will be the big reveal, and if I was a betting woman, I think I'd put money on it either being Gene's dying fantasy, or perhaps some sort of nether-world where all people go in a coma, and he's one of them.

As long as it doesn't end like the American Life on Mars, I'm sure I'll cope.

pinkteddy · 20/04/2009 22:36

Yes Philip Glenister was on Radio 2 this pm and mentioned something about 3rd series too - I wasn't sure if he was joking or not though...

Katisha · 20/04/2009 22:36

Three series???

SlartyBartFast · 20/04/2009 22:38

gufawed at that remark from Gene

somethign about a baton.

about the dead policeman's wife

Here is the full interview from yesterday's Telegraph with Keeley Hawes.

www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/5170993/Interview-Keeley-Hawes-on-Ashes-to-Ashes.html

Quote - "And it?s Hawes who has had the last laugh: a third series of Ashes to Ashes has already been commissioned. Then, just as with Life on Mars, that will be that.

?Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah [the creators of Ashes to Ashes] have always said it was a story that would last three series and then be wrapped up,? she says. "

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 20/04/2009 22:42

Well, I believe they wanted to do 3 series of LoM, but John Simm didn't want to o any more. They've said at the start of Ashes to Ashes that they had ideas for three series worth.

But SFX magazine has Glenister saying he wants to let Gene go, among lots of other things, like Dean Andrews saying the ending is this enormous thing we'll be talking about for ages. So I really think they're mentioning the third series idea to make the ending a bit more of a shock.

Which means I should probably stop over-analyzing and spoiling the fun...

Aaargh, help, fellow addicts! My sodding digobox had a spasm part way through - I missed about 5 minutes - from Alex realising that she's in the hands of a mad doctor to Gene reviving her. What HAPPENED?

BitOfFun · 20/04/2009 22:47

Only weirdy stuff, made no sense! Just iplayer it later, but you didn't miss much

Katisha · 20/04/2009 22:48

Yes it was timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly etc.

poshwellies · 20/04/2009 22:50

Ultra weak storyline..

Although I enjoyed the 80's retro cheese.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 20/04/2009 23:03

SGB, she sort of had a mini vision of being in an ambulance with the paramedics speaking to her, and we also saw Gene looking for her, picking up her screams on the police radio.

There was a bit of comedy business with Chris hearing her calling for help, and going to pick up a phone from it's cradle, and then Shaz opened a drawer and took out the police radio from inside it, too.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 20/04/2009 23:55

OMG. Does it make me incredibly sad that I drove home from work at 10pm listening to Gene Genie by Bowie extremely loudly in over-excited anticipation of watching this week's episode on iPlayer??

I am so in lust with Gene and so hope it goes to a third series. I don't care about the reveal.....I just want more great lines and smouldering looks from Mr Glennister

Kay.....VERY interesting twist you've suggested there....am now convinced that actually you are right and Gene is in fact in a coma......hmmm.

Oh and Chris doing the strip - this kind of comedy moment is what makes A2A and LoM such brilliant viewing because it really doesn't take itself too seriously whilst being top class drama.

Off to bed now to think naughty things about Gene get a good nights sleep.

Gillyan · 21/04/2009 00:44

I loved Life on Mars and hated Ash's to ashes. I only managed one episode. That woman is all wrong. Gene Hunt is so good though and it should of just been him.

lottiejenkins · 21/04/2009 08:31

I managed to get my neighbour to nip round and set my video up to record for me! Bloody trains were a nightmare so it was nice to be able to watch when i got home!!

MargaretMountford · 21/04/2009 09:37

am bothered by Keeley Hawes' make up/clothes - would a senior police woman wear those things - I know they are eighties stuff, but wouldn't she pick less obvious clothes iyswim ?

procrastinatingparent · 21/04/2009 09:47

am bothered by weak weak plot. not sure they are even really trying with the detection bit.

also bothered by lack of sufficient smoldering between Alex and Gene.

but liked Gene's attempt at negotiation with an armed killer.

MargaretMountford · 21/04/2009 09:53

oh I don't care really, just as long as Gene's being Gene I'm happy !

MamazonFirstladyofFilth · 21/04/2009 09:54

OOh Gene is my lust god.

i agree that teh storyline was a bit weak, and i too missed the smoulderingness.

I also wondered about the clothing. although she is in the 1982, she is from now and so surely she would know that she looks daft as a brush in some of those outifts. although to be fair, she is gorgeous enough to wear them well.

but its still brilliant and Gene is still able to get me wetter than a salmon in the rain with just one sentance so who cares.

PurlyQueen · 21/04/2009 18:14

"wetter than a salmon in the rain"

HarleyQuinn · 21/04/2009 20:09

Chris's strip was hilarious

fatzak · 21/04/2009 20:19

Ah here you all are. I knew there'd be some lust chat going on here I have to admit I couldn't even concentrate on last night's episode for thinking about a dream I had with PG

I actually couldn't give a hoot now about Alex and if she "gets back". It was a brilliant idea in LOM but I think I'd rather just watch Ashes to Ashes as some spoof 80s drama.

Did anyone read the article when PG says he wears Brut on set to get into character
