I have it on good authority that they are filming an episode of Dr Who at Cardiff prison key words 'The Master's wife'!!

Hold on just a cotton-pickin' minute. If Dalton is going to be the big bad... and there is credible intel that a certain naughty Timelord is also in the proceedings (qualifiying him as the big bad, in my books) does that mean Dalton might be the new...?

faints again

SoupDragon · 15/05/2009 17:16

It just says that he is a baddie doesn't it?

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 15/05/2009 17:46

Shhh, I am still indulging in wild fantasies and wish to remain as deluded as possible at the thought of John Simm, then Timothy Dalton and David Tennant in the same room, thenkee very much.

Let me have my five minutes, I'll be dealing with Eleven soon enough...

SoupDragon · 15/05/2009 17:47

But if he is just a baddie, you could have them all in the room together. Think abut that...

RustyBear · 15/05/2009 22:48

If it's November, they may be aiming for the 23rd, though that's a Monday, so not very likely. But it could be the Saturday before & repeated on the Monday.

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 16/05/2009 15:16

On the Powell estate, then. So not a glimpse of the other Doctor, .

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 22/05/2009 12:47

coughs politely

Just wanted to run this by you, and it relates to the pictures in that link I posted.

I was kind of hopeful that any glimpse of Rose would be in the other universe, and not this one, but I'm going to be disappointed. But it got me to thinking - if the Doctor is visiting Rose before he ever met her, I rather fear that RTD might be pulling another big fat reset button out.

Does anyone think I am being ridiculous, and RTD would never do anything like that?

Katisha · 22/05/2009 12:50

Oh Lordy I remember Timothy Dalton as Mr Rochester in what must have been ahem the 80s...

That would certainly help me cope with Eleven...

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 22/05/2009 12:53

If there's a reset button ending to Tennant's tenure I DEMAND to be given Timothy Dalton as recompense!

Katisha · 22/05/2009 12:54

Yep. Petition to No 10 about No 10?

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 22/05/2009 12:57

We could start a snowball. Of course, even if we don't get a reset button ending, I still want Dalton.

argh! The more I think about it, the more I'm becoming convinced that what RTD is going to do.

Katisha · 22/05/2009 13:04

There's more than fiction at stake here.

Dr Who Adventure arrives in this house every week (not my subscription, honest) and there needs to be something more in it than pictures of a strange-looking yoof...

KayHarkerDoesNotSimper · 22/05/2009 13:12

Someone on my f-list is deeply in love with Eleven already, and keeps posting pictures to prove how lush and lovely he is.

I am entirely unconvinced (and actually, I'm ok with that, tbh) but I agree, it will be quite hard to go straight from Tennant to absolutely nothing...

ellceeell · 26/05/2009 16:08

Is it just me who read this and got excited? www.denofgeek.com/television/256691/the_doctor_joins_the_sarah_jane_adventures.html - I do watch the Sarah Jane Adventures anyway - purely for my daughter's sake, obviously

JackieNo · 26/05/2009 18:56

Yes, I just saw that story on the BBC.

PortAndLemon · 28/05/2009 09:07

I'd rather keep John Simm as the Master (assuming that they've found a credible way to bring him back -- actually, no, strike that, I'd rather keep John Simm as the Master even if they've only found a paper-thin RTD excuse for bringing him back) than replace him with Dalton. Kay can have Dalton as the Meddling Monk or the War Lord or something.

DS (4) was watching "The Sound of Drums" for about the umpteenth time yesterday and suddenly asked "Are Prime Ministers bad?". Fighting off any ignoble impulses I might have had, I tried to give him a brief overview of the governmental system, but I don't think it sunk in. Also, DS has a very cheap sonic screwdriver off the front of Doctor Who Adventures; we were out at the weekend and there was another boy there who had a slightly more upmarket version with sound and light effects and DS informed me delightedly that "that boy has a real sonic screwdriver!". He was absolutely insistent that it wasn't just a toy, it was a real one, because he'd seen boy using it...

JackieNo · 29/05/2009 09:12

If you didn't see DT as Hamlet, it's going to be on BBC 2 . Fantastic.

RustyBear · 29/05/2009 11:32

Ooh, I just went to find this thread to post that Jackie!

I am going out today to buy a new TV...

Actually I was going out to buy a new TV today anyway, but now I have a new incentive.

On the reset button thing, there was a quote in RTD's 'A writer's Tale' from an email he sent Steven Moffat about planning the 'handover'

"I'll park the Doctor wherever you need him... the Specials can contain Series Five elements that'd be entirely yours... you tell me what you're planning (not in too much detail, thank you - think of my fanboy heart) and I'll make sure the Specials lead seamlessly into Series Five"

So - maybe not all RTD's idea?

JackieNo · 29/05/2009 12:46

Good thought, RustyBear. But I suspect my brian might implode if I try to work out which bits are Moffat, and which RTD .

PortAndLemon · 29/05/2009 13:12

Am I the first with the new companion story?

RustyBear · 29/05/2009 13:26

Yes, I think you are! - obviously getting a bit part in one series is the way to go if you want to be a companion....

PersephoneSnape · 29/05/2009 13:52

pretty. hope she is sparky and quarrelsome!

Bunch · 29/05/2009 13:57

Oh dear, they've got it wrong - again.

PortAndLemon · 29/05/2009 14:16

I have regularly looked like this --> over DW casting decisions, but pretty much without fail I've been perfectly happy with the way they've turned out in practice. So my official policy is now to be all Zen-like about it and wait and see.

Admittedly, I think they should have some companions who are not from 21st-century Earth, but it is Official BBC Policy that they must fall into that category because audiences are too dim to cope otherwise (OK, I may be paraphrasing a little there). Within those parameters, and so far as one can judge from a photograph, she looks fine (possibly even has a hint of the Sally Sparrows about her?)

But please, not another "Doctor in Love" story arc. It's clear that that's what RTD had in mind (from reading A Writer's Tale, he had a romantic subplot in mind before Catherine Tate signed on for a full series and dislodged it) but I expect better things from SM. OK, he does have an urge towards the romantic relationshippy in his plotlines (Madame de Pompadour, River Song), and I'll allow him a certain amount of that, but not more Doctor/companion stuff, please. If I want that I can read Kay's fanfic...

So I suppose I'd feel marginally more reassured if they'd gone for "matronly" or "has a second head" that they would be avoiding those areas, but the fact they've cast a 21-year-old doesn't automatically mean they are going for Rose Tyler Mark II. I hope.
