I was quite at John Torodes comment about Dennice wearing high heels and how would she fit in a professional kitchen.

He didn't ask the young lad about the silly haircut did he?

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 07/01/2009 12:53

i just wanted to brush it back from his face

bagsforlife · 07/01/2009 14:32

Yes, I noticed the high heels comment too. Thought he was leering at her a bit as well.

Young boy's hairdo deeply irritating but he was good. Looked like he was going to cry at the end.

Molesworth · 07/01/2009 14:35

Loved the idea of hairboy's tea smoked cod. As someone else said, he would've gone through on another day.

at lurking sexist attitudes of G & J

ThePellyandMe · 07/01/2009 16:21

Yes I must admit I thought the young lad was very good and I was quite surprised he didn't go through but at the same time after they're sexist attitude I was quite pleased she proved she could cook well IYSWIM.

Carmenere · 07/01/2009 16:32

Ok my opinion is that they should never have asked her how she would cope with the kids and it should have been edited out too.
But wearing high heels is a big no no when cooking and it shows that she put her appearance over safety/ability to cook well. fortunately she was by far the superior cook imo, the young guy has loads of potential but the experience of cooking every day for family that she had paid out. they were right to choose her I think as I reckon she has loads of potential.

thumbwitch · 07/01/2009 16:37

just found this thread - I love this show, but not as much as DH does! EVERYTHING stops for this show. I thought hairboy (good name!) might go through too, was quite surprised he didn't, but he would really have had to smarten up that hairstyle in a pro kitchen!! He can barely see out from under it (yes, am too old to be hip etc., can't bear hair all over the face like that )

wannaBe · 07/01/2009 16:39

I wonder what the audition process is like for this? Wonder what they turn down in order to get to these people.

Mercy · 07/01/2009 16:44

Missed it yesterday - saw the pork chop man though. That's about my level, how on earth did he make it to the quarter-finals?

Dread to think what the other contestants were like

Molesworth · 07/01/2009 16:46

ooh and wasn't it greasy

far more worthy of comment than Denise's heels (she wasn't wearing heels for the pro kitchen/final challenge anyway)

browntrout · 07/01/2009 17:53

afraid to say i tittered in very juvenile way at greg saying (something like) he'd been looking forward to sinking his teeth into a lovely soft spear when that woman messed up her asparagus starter.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/01/2009 21:24

I liked Lucy today... and hooray, they went to Thomasina's restaurant - am dying to go there !

OP posts:
MrsMuddle · 07/01/2009 22:05

I liked Lucy too, but I don't like Thomasina. She seemed much more aggressive than the other chefs that have been on. I don't think I liked her that much when she was a contestant either, IIRC.

merryberry · 07/01/2009 22:13

hello another series, good, hi all.
am enjoying the mean lean revised MC machine.
is this right now, in every first round they will put a complete no-hoper through for our edification? seems like so to me...tis a bit mean, but worth it imo to have more cooking and less chatting in rest of prog.

god. i hated yesterday's boy's lanky greasy posed hair. sorry, not a food related comment. just it made me consider gagging and not much does.

gack

Molesworth · 07/01/2009 22:16

I thought starey-eye man looked promising today, but coconut milk with cabbage, pancetta and chestnuts ... WTF?

thumbwitch · 07/01/2009 22:53

I agree MW - I had him pegged to go through until that main course ????
Then I thought Lucy had it by a whisker, while DH was going for Mitra.

We play a game when we first see them all come into the kitchen - who will stay and who will go - tonight DH got all 3 right (who was going) AND got the winner right - I onl got 2 out of 3. Tis a silly game but we like it!

Couldn't believe how bad that guy, Martin was it? was, I mean wtf was he thinking, with his grilled salmon and slightly cooked slices of sweet potato!! (we both said he was going)

Molesworth · 07/01/2009 23:04

DP and I do exactly the same thing thumby

I wrongly guessed that starey-eye man would go through (this was before his bizarre cabbage/coconut milk concoction, obviously)

thumbwitch · 07/01/2009 23:06

we both instantly knew that Linda (themessy-haired one) and that Martin(?) with the glasses was out tonight - there really is something about some of them, you just KNOW they are going to be crap.

Still haven't got over the pork chop episode either...

foxinsocks · 08/01/2009 20:47

omg they've asked her AGAIN about how she would fit it all in grrrr

Molesworth · 08/01/2009 21:14

I noticed!

Am disappointed that galoot didn't go through: he seemed like a bit of a card

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/01/2009 21:31

galoot ?

Molesworth · 08/01/2009 21:32

I have just sent an email to the BBc complaining about JT asking her how on earth she will juggle it all. Patronising twunt, it has really made me fume.
