Tonight !!!!! am so joyful

OP posts:
fishie · 12/02/2009 09:01

that awful chef who kept calling for eggs benedictine was very upsetting.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 09:01

5 - what is your secret. There are two things I can't make - poached eggs and shortbread. Thankfully they are rarely cooked together. Have tried swishing, vinegar, praying but to no avail.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/02/2009 09:02

Bring a suacepan of water to the boil, with lid on then turn it down to the lowest heat, takke lid of and put eggs in while water still bubbling for a bit and then leave to cook gently.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 09:06

Fishie - I wasn't sure about that either. So much so that after having discussed it with DH I checked. If it were Benedictine it would be eggs related to St Benedict. Who was never involved in brunches really.

MaryAnnSweetheart · 12/02/2009 10:07

egg benedictine was annoying as was the friar's breakfast - bit wanky really...am totally bored with this breakfast / 18 hour day thing

itwasCYTEENagewedding · 12/02/2009 10:36

what was the point of calling it a friar's breakfast if every time the head chef called for one he had to add "that's an english breakfast, yeah?"

Molesworth · 12/02/2009 11:12

"Friar's Breakfast" sounds like something you'd buy in a Berni Inn

Clara, do you mean Emily (the girl last year)? She was amazing

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 11:19

Yes Molesworth, wasn't she fabulous. I saw in the paper that she's taken a place in Cambridge and only has a camping stove to cook on.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 11:33

Also Hannah from the year before, do you remember her, she was very endearing. So nervous at the start then got into her stride. Ah, the Masterchef journey...

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 16:49

I thought Emily was fab - I loved her stuff and really wanted her to win but thought it was the right thing for her to bow out so that she could take up her place at Cambridge. I hope she turns up again sometime though!

Was egg benedictine supposed to be a joke then, to go with the friar's breakfast?
Did they have kedgeree with monkfish, as well?

I can't poach eggs in a saucepan either, although DH can. I have a mini poacher - my Dad's from when he was on national service - single egg poacher!

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 16:55

Thumblovewitch you are a genius, you have cracked the monk code.I am glad someone here is thinking. Maybe in event of next war you could work on Enigma.

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 17:39
Grin
ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 20:26

MIL here, am missing quarter final. What is happening. What shirt is John wearing.

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 20:30

we need to add in "Corrrr!" for puddings from Greg, and "that's close to perfect" and "it's a real triumph!"

John's shirt is a grey "Matrix"-like pattern.

Wrong winner for the first part tonight, should have been Yola.

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 20:33

My vote goes for Andy for the semi-final.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 20:33

Lovely, I can just picture him. How is his hair? I have been wondering if he's stopped using Just For Men.

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 20:34

looks like he's just stepped out of the kitchen - a very hot kitchen. All messy and dried-sweaty. defo given up with the Grecian 2000!

Greg looks more and more like a boiled egg...

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 20:38

Poor Greg, but then again who wouldn't look bad standing next to John. Right have to go and join family and stop "working". Many thanks for vivid description, you can add voiceovers to your code cracking talents.

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 20:39

thanks!

MaryAnnSweetheart · 12/02/2009 21:38

thank Christ for that...I thought Gregg would get his way and they'd put Michelle through -Andy or Palate boy to win

itwasCYTEENagewedding · 12/02/2009 21:41

Ahem...some great Masterchef images here

It was a ripe night for MC Bingo tonight - 'beautifully soft', 'beautifully cooked', we had it all.

beansprout · 12/02/2009 21:55

Does John ever let Gregg have the casting vote?

dizzydixies · 12/02/2009 22:11

beansprout we were wondering that too, we wondered if John is higher up the food chain so to speal

thank goodness Michelle was binned - she was a one trick curry pony - Andy had worked hard to learn loads of things and ok, her spicy food and curries were fantastic BUT she surely had to show a wider skill?

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 22:14

DH was nearly having heart falure at the thought that they would put Michelle through then!

Sometimes Greg does get the casting vote - sometimes John is the one with the WTF choice and Greg beats him into submission. But I do think they decide first and then put on the show of arguing about it.

womblingalong · 12/02/2009 22:15

I don't agree, indian food is not 'a one trick curry pony', and neither was she IMO. She did her monkfish dish didn't she in the restaurant. My heart really wanted her to go through, however Andy was more in the normal mould of these things, and similar to lots that have already gone though.
