Hello again!!

OP posts:
TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 13/12/2008 21:50

I can see light. So its because Toms vote was a wasted one. Ahhh.

What will they do if there is a draw again next week! This show could go on forever!

artichokes · 13/12/2008 21:50

I never knew the judges initial scores count like that. I think that is crap actually.

squeaver · 13/12/2008 21:51

I blame John Sergeant, myself. Let's report him to Ofcom!

pinkteddy · 13/12/2008 21:52

I think I am right in saying although judges score the final, their votes don't count, it is purely a public vote. So virtually impossible to be a draw.

squeaver · 13/12/2008 21:52

Why do you think they have the judges' leaderboard then, artichokes?

mm22bys · 13/12/2008 21:53

But he's still at a disadvantage, because a lot (ok maybe some) of people will have realised that a vote for Tom was in fact a wasted vote, but people would have still have voted for R&L as usual.

What a mess....feel for T&C!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/12/2008 21:54

All comes down to the BBC being so sensitive about people wasting votes money on the phone. So as soon as it was a tie between the girls, it was inevitable Tom was in the dance off. The Beeb are terrified of complaints from people who vote.

Am quite amused by suspicions that there's some conspiracy and they decided as soon as JS walked.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 13/12/2008 21:54

TurkeyLurkey - Rachel and Lisa both got 3 points from the judges as they tied for first place. Tom got fewer marks from the judges and so was in third place with 1 point. Whoever gets the most public votes gets 3 points, the next person gets 2 points and the last gets 1.

So, if Tom got most votes from the public he would have got 1 (from the judges) + 3 (from the public) making 4 overall.
The 2 women would then have had 2 points and 1 point from the public. So one would have had 3+2 making 5 and the other would have had 3+1 making 4. So it would have been Tom and the less popular-with-the-public woman in the dance-off.

bran · 13/12/2008 21:54

It's only an issue towards the end of the competition and if there is a joint top place. It don't think this situation has happened before.

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 13/12/2008 21:55

Ahh yes Pinkteddy I think you're right and the final is just on public vote alone.

As soon as they realised the vote for Tom would be wasted they should have said so and not spun it out though.

squeaver · 13/12/2008 21:55

Spot on Mary.

A few headless chickens running around at TV Centre tonight, I suspect.

TeenyTinyTorya · 13/12/2008 21:56

I understand now. It's a bit annoying though!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/12/2008 21:56

turkey, they wouldn't have been able to take that decision whilst the programme was still going. Only when the producers can have a proper chat about it I guess.

thumbElf · 13/12/2008 21:56

Hurrah - I knew I could count on MN to sort this out for me - I couldn't for the life of me understand what they were on about in the show but now I get it. So in all fairness, I think they should have either:
ditched tom anyway, which would have been terribly bad form and upset lots of people (self included)
or:
done what they did and put them all through.

I am glad Tom's in the final!
I know Lisa has really picked up her game in the last few weeks but Brendad is so insufferably up himself I don't really want him to win - is that bad?

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 13/12/2008 21:57

Sorry - x posted there, am slow typing tonight!

MMOC - but when JS walked alot of people said that it would be rubbish with just 2 people in the final ... again.

PinkTeddy - the Judges' votes do count in the final but with only 2 people it would have been academic.

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 13/12/2008 21:57

Thanks all for your explanations! You are not even sounding exasperated in trying to explain it to me (unlike my Dad when trying to explain maths homework )

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/12/2008 21:58

I'll bet Tom thinks its a mixed blessing. those show dances must be easier for girls surely. I bet he's down the gym tomorrow...

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/12/2008 21:59

The producers probably did think "ooh wouldn't it be nice to have three in the final". But they couldn't have engineered a tie from the judges. Unless you think the judges scores were rigged to create a tie.

bran · 13/12/2008 21:59

thumbElf, when I see Brendan dancing I want him to win, I love to watch him. At all other times I think he should be sent back to NZ and refused re-entry to the UK (was he really crying do you think, or was it just to make him seem 'nicer' to the voting public?).

munkeebiznessunderthemistletoe · 13/12/2008 22:00

I AGREE WITH SQUEAVER- I BLAME JS. REALLY, THEY SHOULD BRING BACK PUBLIC STONINGS FOR JUST THIS KIND OF SITUATION.

I'm glad T+C got another chance, though. I was surprised by Camilla's choices tonight and sure they'll be FAB next week.

munkeebiznessunderthemistletoe · 13/12/2008 22:01

THUMBELF- I agree about Brendan and sadly tonight I thought Lisa is catching his arrogant bug. Just a bit.

bran · 13/12/2008 22:01

Maybe next year they'll have an extra celeb or make it a week shorter and then have two couples leaving the week before the quarter-finals. That would certainly ramp up the tension, and if they lose one to illness/flouncing then they could just stick with one couple leaving as usual.

munkeebiznessunderthemistletoe · 13/12/2008 22:02

Oh bran, genius idea! You should go work for the beeb. or at least visit the forums.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 13/12/2008 22:07

MMOC - I don't know if you were thinking that I think there was rigging of any kind, but I don't. I don't think this was a decision taken tonight and, therefore, I don't think that tonight's scores had any influnce on it whatsoever. I think that it would have been a 'roll-over' regardless of teh scores. Infact, if you think about it, the fact that it was a tie has made it look like a fix when I don't believe it was ...

If you weren't directing your post in my direction then I'll shove off
