Why am I watching this when I know it's just going to freak me out??

Oooh you can get the original 1970s Survivors series on DVD! God I LOVED that programme.

scattercushion · 02/12/2008 12:16

So who has thought it fishy that we didn't see Greg's 'back story' ie what he was up to before the plague hit? My theory is that he's one of the mad scientists and it's all an experiment or something.

chipmunkswhereareyou · 02/12/2008 21:27

Anyone watching tonight?

OP posts:
AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/12/2008 21:34

fuck, had forgotten this was on until I spotted the thread title on active convo's

I have missed the 1st half-hour of this episode

what have I missed ?

chipmunkswhereareyou · 02/12/2008 21:37

Abby stumbled upon a community led by that woman who was health minister - they have electricity, hot water etc.

The dodgy people who presumably created the virus or whatever - the scientists - have done a helicopter reccy to see how many survivors there are and now have a vaccine.

That's about it really.

OP posts:
AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/12/2008 22:33

ooo thanks you kindly

fryalot · 02/12/2008 22:36

well... the vaccine doesn't quite work the way they wanted though, does it?

(it killed the first person they tried it on)

TinkerBellesMum · 02/12/2008 22:57

Oh drats, I forgot it was on today! Will have to get it on iPlayer, there goes my WoWing for tonight.

chipmunkswhereareyou · 02/12/2008 23:02

Hmm it was good but I didn't like the fact the ex-minister had gone power mad and wanted to shoot intruders.

Looks like Abby gets up to some saucy stuff in a lake next week !

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 02/12/2008 23:10

Where are they all crapping, that's what I need to know.

fryalot · 02/12/2008 23:15

obviously in lazy stroppy sarah's bed.

She'll discover them all next week, simper a bit over Greg hoping that he'll sort it out for her, Al will pop to B & Q and get her a new bed, which the chickens will inhabit leaving Sarah to fend for herself in the henhouse.

probably

liath · 02/12/2008 23:23

UD - the doctor lass is sneaking ground up drugs into their food to constipate them and make sure they NEVER have to crap.

I thought it got a lot better again this week. Liked the whole "lets live a lovely touchy feely communal life in an eco lodge and blow the brains out of any fucker who dares break in" ethos .

UnquietDad · 03/12/2008 09:13

And the slavering scrawny rabid dogs?? Where are they??

UnquietDad · 03/12/2008 09:16

I wonder what Abby thought was going to happen at the looters' trial? Was she sitting there thinking they were going to get ten hours' community service each?

It's also very unclear how much time has passed since the Virus. Some aspects of it indicate just a couple of weeks (people don't look too dirty and unshaven yet, they're making their first foray out to get petrol, the eco-community are still living off the freezers), but others hint it may have been more like months (it's now getting "a bit nippy", mini-society structures and routines are in place)...

chipmunkswhereareyou · 03/12/2008 09:44

Also now we have been told that maybe 1% of the population survivived but that's still a lot.
That'd be what almost 600,000 people.

Seems more like 0.1%.

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 03/12/2008 09:53

Am I the only one who got genuinely tearful about that family with the young girl who looked like Samantha Morton who hadn't been in contact with the virus yet, but decided to just go outside and see what happened. Sob.

UnquietDad · 03/12/2008 11:32

No, if there are 6 million people in the UK, 1% would be 60,000 people.

goblinvalley · 03/12/2008 11:49

That helicopter pilot had great eyesight to be able to spot all those survivors - must be all those carrots they stashed away

I'm still having trouble getting past the lack of plot, but the family i liked.

I also can't see why the mad scientists would do this? Most neferious plots are to kill your enemies, take their land, be King, etc. not to ruin any kind of infrastructure. Unless they have their own special way of repopulating the planet

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 03/12/2008 11:51

has it only affected britain, or the whole world?

UnquietDad · 03/12/2008 12:10

It's the whole world.

Breeding a super-race?...

MamaG · 03/12/2008 12:24

I like it too
I'd raid the gun shop first, then the shoe shop, then I'd go to Tesco. Sod manky netto! I'd find an underground house

Polgara2 · 03/12/2008 12:33

Well I am enjoying it!

I don't want to know all those mundane (or realistic) things like where are the raving dogs etc, I just want to be entertained. I loved the 70s show and this is not too far removed from it.

Cheesy entertainment - can't beat it

morningpaper · 03/12/2008 12:35

I was wondering about the timescale UQD

And if Abby is getting saucy in the lake next week that seems a little SOON hmm? Surely her husband's body is barely cold?

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 03/12/2008 12:35

thats the bit I don't get. surely in the big house there would be a gun

MamaG · 03/12/2008 12:37

I always imagine myself like ARnie, with a semi automatic shotgun, holding it by the slidy bit and shaking it to reload, rahter than doing it properly.

I'd be thin as well, becuase I'd have HAD teh flu but survived and lost my excess weight
