Why am I watching this when I know it's just going to freak me out??

OP posts:
snowleopard · 17/12/2008 12:16

I'm enjoying it but it is ridiculous. Just like in Lost, they all have sparkly clean clothes all the time. They never, apart from Anya, have a weep about everyone they lost. The one who had the baby blithely talked about her previous 2 kids as if it was all fine and dandy! And Anya is going to run out of that lovely lilac eyeshadow soon.

MrsTweedy · 17/12/2008 12:25

Absolutely Headfairy, I've been doing that too. Here in London large areas would soon be flooded with no one operating the Thames Barrier. Would definitely head for the hills, preferably Yorkshire and find a nice hill farm with a walled kitechen garden.

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 12:32

I'd be more inclined to stay somewhere with more clement weather, perhaps the south west, warmer winters, better chance for your crops. A lovely house somewhere in Cornwall with a big greenhouse, or you could have that as a project, build a nice big greenhouse so you could eventually grow some nicer fruit, bananas, peaches, you could grow cucumbers and peppers and other salady stuff for the summers in there too. Perhaps if it was big enough some grapes...

purpleduckUnderTheMistletoe · 17/12/2008 12:36

My DH and I just watched the whole thing on iPlayer....

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 12:40

And?

Have you got your virus plan sorted?

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 17/12/2008 12:43

And how do we know that Anya played on both teams?

Sorry, but were I to survive a plague, gossip would be very high on my list of essentials

worleywinterwonderland · 17/12/2008 12:48

dp and i are loving this program,
dp is convinced it is all propaganda and training us for what might happen and the goverment are priming us all!! anything like this, or the film 28 days he loves.
i had to buy him bear grylls survival book last christmas!!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 17/12/2008 12:57

My plan would be to go to Yorkshire to my MIL's smallholding (I'm assuming she doesn't survive).

Before I go I'd stop in at my local hospital (where I work) and take as many drugs/medicines as I could find. And suture material, etc.

I'd take my chickens and rabbits with me. I'd find a male rabbit from somewhere as well so it could breed with mine. Plenty of rabbit stew and eggs.

The water there is from a well so we'd be fine for water.

I'd find as much tinned food as poss and also vegetable seeds from a garden centre. Then I'd get growing veg.

Raalix · 17/12/2008 13:02

Didn't really like last night's ep. It's been a good series so far and the trailer for next week's finale looks pretty good.

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 13:06

Good plan stripey! Like the rabbit idea, they breed like rabbits anyway, can't be sentimental about fluffy bunnies when you've got a cracking rabbit stew to go with your home grown mash!

I thought we found out about Anya because she talked about her partner and then said something like "she died with the rest of them" or something like that, last night, when Tom was listening on the stairs.

MrsTweedy · 17/12/2008 13:36

Re Anya; Tom demanded to know why she hadn't told him she was a dyke (his words v. non pc but suits his brutish character) & she said she had fallen in love with a person, wgho happened to be a woman, but when he pressed her she admitted to having also slept with men.

Looks like there will be a few MN-ers in Yorkshire, will have to have "Is that you UCM" badges to identify us (or whatever the current quote is, I don't get around the boards much these days)

Agree weather is not so mild in Yorkshire but always better to be on ground you know.

MrsTweedy · 17/12/2008 13:40

Not that I'm obsessing or anything, but if you want to see the original series you can find it here , more episodes are being added.

snowleopard · 17/12/2008 13:53

I thought that scene was appalling! The whole vibe of it seemed to be "weeeelll I'm not really gay so it's OK, don't worry". Why didn't she say "I had a relationship with a woman, my choice get over it you homophobic twunt!"

DP is convinced that Freema is coming back btw.

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 14:47

If she does come back then Anya's a rubbish doctor because she "died" in her arms. Presumably Anya checked before leaving her in a hospital full of corpses!

Agree they copped out on the lesbian thing just so they can leave things open for Anya and Tom to have a fling.

frankie3 · 17/12/2008 17:37

Would there be water coming out of the taps, or would the reserviors be dried up or contaminated? I noticed they made everyone in the camp a mug of tea, so they must have a lot of bottled water. And is the electricity working?

mynewnickname · 17/12/2008 18:03

They haven't been to the shops for ages now.

It all looks a bit scary for the next episode for Abby.

mynewnickname · 17/12/2008 18:04

P.s. I reckon the baddies will have captured Peter too for the same reason as they want abby and the two will be reunited at the baddies' HQ.

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 18:15

And another thing... I'm sure it's been said but wouldn't the power plants carry on running for a bit before it all switched off? Certainly nuclear power plants run pretty much by themselves and as it's nuclear power, they can run for ages before they run out of fuel, it's not like someone has to be continuously shovelling coal in. The lights went out in the first episode.

I did notice something that looked like a rain collection device in the garden on last nights' episode which is reassuring. I'd hate to think they're washing their hair in Evian, mind you, judging by how glossy it looks, that's probably what they're doing!

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 17/12/2008 18:22

Meh. I was at least hoping for a Freema snog.

I. am. shallow.

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 18:55

See I'm starting to have a slight crush on Tom (madness - he's a murderer!) so was hoping he'd get some action with someone other than silly Sarah! He's obviously hopelessly in love with Anya but can't manage to communicate much beyond a grunt so it may be unrequited.

UnquietDad · 17/12/2008 22:01

It's quite unusual to have an openly homophobic anti-hero, isn't it? It's almost taboo.

mynewnickname · 17/12/2008 22:28

OOH I've got some info on whether there's a second series. Almost directly from one of the stars of the show (I shall not reveal my sources ).....apparently they are hoping to do a second one but it hasn't been commissioned yet.

mynewnickname · 17/12/2008 22:40

UQD - and on the BBC too. Last place I'd expect that.

UnquietDad · 17/12/2008 22:56

Hmm, second series - maybe a lot depends on whether Paterson Joseph is busy with (taps nose) "something else", eh?

HeadFairy · 18/12/2008 10:09

Would that be Dr Who UD? Perhaps they can film Survivors second series in Cardiff so he can do both!
