Why am I watching this when I know it's just going to freak me out??

OP posts:
IorekByrnison · 10/12/2008 12:50

Paterson Joseph (or Johnson as we cannot refrain from calling him in this house) is brilliant. Was saying last night how much I would like him to be Doctor Who, and to my amazement I see from t'internet that he almost certainly is going to be. (Did everyone else know this already?)

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 10/12/2008 12:59

It's the rumour with the strongest backing from the people I know what knows stuff, yes. Doesn't mean it's 100%, but we're not going to know until after Christmas because the plot of the Christmas special rather relies on some ambiguity.

I have to say, PJ was my least favourite of all the options... until I saw Survivors. Now, I'm really glad I've seen it, so I won't be disappointed if it's him, but I kind of wish I hadn't, because I'm developing a teensy bit of a crush on him, and I DON'T WANT TO FANCY THE BLOODY DOCTOR ANYMORE!

lucysnowe · 10/12/2008 13:01

(((((Paterson Joseph)))))

He will make an aces DrW. Hope all the rumours are true.

Quite liked the lord of the flies bit with the boys but got bored with everything else. Was a bit boak at the cold water shagging. They must?ve been bloody freezing.

IorekByrnison · 10/12/2008 13:21

lol Kay. Have you seen him as Johnson in Peep Show? It could cure you of your incipient crush. Actually it could go either way.

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 10/12/2008 13:32

Yes, IB, seen a bit of him in Peepshow. Isn't he supposed to be a twat in that, though? (I haven't seen much so I don't know..)

Nope, everything I'd seen him in previously (inc. Doctor Who) I thought he was horrid, but he was supposed to be. As Greg, he's supposed to be a bit mysterious, a bit of a loner, but likeable. And I fancy him doing it, too.

Now, if he plays the Doctor as an unlikeable tosser, I'll be peachy. If he plays him likes Greg, I'm screwed. Still, Colin Baker managed unlikeable tosser, so nothing's set in stone

mynewnickname · 11/12/2008 10:31

Watched it last night as had recorded it. Felt really sad when the Peter wasn't Peter iyswim.

So, do we think the real Peter will ever be found?

I'm a bit surprised that Al forgave Max Beesley's character so easily.

Shame the doc walked in on Greg and Abby's reunion moment.

mynewnickname · 13/12/2008 18:20

Looked at Radio Times this pm and it seems this week's is the last episode...is that really true? There's a lot to wrap up in one episode isn't there...

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 13/12/2008 20:09

This week is episode 5, isn't it? I think there's 6 episodes, so I'm not sure about the scheduling.

ChristmasPresence · 14/12/2008 09:01

Thank goodness it's nearly over. DP loves this and just don't get it. It's so full of holes it's ridiculous. I was really looking forward to it and have been hugely disappointed. The acting's okay but I find myself saying "but why is..." because a lot of the time it doesn't make sense.

MrsTweedy · 16/12/2008 22:14

Ok, so now I'm getting annoyed that no one is actually doing anything in that house. Apart from the chickens, what have they done about preparing for the future? No one seems to be planting or rounding up livestock, they're just sitting around doing a bit of scavenging and waiting for oddballs to turn up.
I'd be digging the garden over and planting veg at the very least considering they lost out on the warehouse.

spookycharlotte121 · 16/12/2008 22:20

I agree. I was wondering what they are doing with all their rubbish too.... compost perhaps I love the pic of your ds on your profile! How did you get that cool effect?

MrsTweedy · 16/12/2008 22:30

I was wondering about the rubbish when I saw all those bottles from celebrating the birth!

Thanks for the comment on ds's picture, it's a painting I did from a photograph of him. I've just taken a look at my profile for the first time in ages and realise I ought to remove the pic of the interestingly shaped parsnip as it's out of context.

themoon66 · 16/12/2008 22:33

Boy did that breech baby pop out easy or what?

That drippy blonde is starting to seriously get on my tits... hope she gets bumped off in final episode next week.

are they making any more does anyone know? I thought the original series went on for years.

MrsTweedy · 16/12/2008 22:49

The original series ran for 3 years & had about 13 episodes per season...I'm currently wading through it on youtube and it's much more gritty and grubby, though lacking the oomph factor of Max B & Paterson. Everyone in it is vair vair well-spoken though apart from baddies and people who are due for an untimely end.

UnquietDad · 16/12/2008 22:53

Where are the rats? Where are the dogs? Why haven't they been besieged with marauding raiders wanting to pinch their nice house (I mean, it is a bit big for just a handful of them) because all they could find was a semi in Hyde?

(Still, at least nobody has to worry about school catchment areas any more...)

Are they recycling bottles? Are they washing up? Is there a rota? Where does the water come from?

At least from the Next Time trailer it looks as if we may see a bit of realistic filth and devastation... decaying bodies and tower-blocks on fire and so on... because that's what it would be like.

liath · 17/12/2008 08:02

They all have such nice hair still.

That resuscitation scene was totally unrealistic.

I'm still enjoying this, though. Is next week the last one???

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 17/12/2008 10:06

Help! I missed last night's episode, and I have no way of catching up (iplayer not be working). What happened? Does Anya really bat for the other team? What did Freema do, was it a flashback? (just going on all the things that matter I remember fom the Digi spy spoilers.) I have priorities

themoon66 · 17/12/2008 10:43

The ladies always have such lovely eye make up on too.

MrsTweedy · 17/12/2008 11:00

Anya has played on both teams, Freema still dead - it was a flashback.

KayHarkerTheHeraldAngelsSing · 17/12/2008 11:09

oo, oo, what was the flashback about?

UnquietDad · 17/12/2008 11:12

I wondered how on earth John got Anya from the house to the church. It's implied he forced her out of the house at knifepoint, but the conversation with Blonde Who Doesn't Drink Except When It's Champagne implied that the rest of the group didn't know what she was doing there. Are we to believe Anya didn't try and make a run for it at any point between the house and that church? Given that they presumably went there on foot?! (They didn't appear to have cars and it was near enough for BWDDEWIC to walk back to the house.)

themoon66 · 17/12/2008 11:34

I love this programme despite all the gaping holes.

MrsTweedy · 17/12/2008 12:02

Just flashbacks to her falling ill & everyone dying.

Have to say this series is not really satisfying my nerdy need to know what you would actually do in this situation. What do they do for a loo? How grim would AF be? What if you wore contact lenses? Did they have disposable nappies for the baby?

Big plot holes. How come no one has sussed Tom, especially after he's proved so handy with a knife?

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 12:10

Totally agree MrsT, I spent the first night after the first episode mentally planning what I'd do, my virus plan as it were. First, find somewhere to live, preferably a property with open fires and aga or log burner and lots of land to cultivate. Then get hold of largest lorry I feel I can drive and spend the next few weeks amassing as much as I can, dried foods, tinned foods, range of medicines, toiletries (including tampons!) practical things like camping equipment (lamps, camping gas, barbeque) water purification tablets. Then I'd try and get a weapon of some sort, guns from gun clubs or police stations. A selection of books with details of how to grow vegetables, first aid, treat more chronic medical conditions and how to survive in the wild. I'd have maps and phonebooks to work out a strategic plan where to go first and a shopping list. Not sit around making googly eyes at Max Beasley! Bunch of no hopers!
