Anyone know what this is about? Worth watching?

Oh, I'm glad you mentioned class, Fio - I didn't dare In the Radio Times it said that this programme differed from the original (in the 70s?) because that was a working class family and this family are middle class.

I'd say they were working class with money - rather than what I think of as middle class.

Does social class B mean working class with money, Wendy ?

The original documentry in the 70s was a completely ground breaking event - really one of the first of this kind of "fly on the wall" documentaries about a very working class family in Reading. Completely different backdrop - the three day week, etc. I was hoping this new family would be a bit less afluent and "comfortable", when I said before that it wasn't most people's reality I meant in terms of the lovely big house etc rather than the reality of obnoxious teenagers.

hughjarssss · 18/09/2008 13:28

I am working class and this family are definatly a step above me on the social ladder

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2008 13:47

Aitch · 18/09/2008 13:49

Is there such a thing as class and what does it mean. I have never understood, is it money? education? parents who are proffessionals? people who behave with immpecable manners and ettiqette?

I won't start a thread as I can imagine it's been done to death

shinyshoes · 18/09/2008 13:55

What i'm trying to say is why people think they have class (the tv family) I see them as no different form me except they look as though they have more money.

I don't believe class exists

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2008 13:55

Why would anyone care though?
It is wierd to read posts trying to guess the class of the famliy- they are who they are, you've watched the family dynamic unfold, why is it necessary to label them?
I find it odd

hughjarssss · 18/09/2008 14:00

They had roast duck for dinner - that is not a normal dinner in our working class household

Well I found all the people sympathetic actually and thought they were a lovely family. The dad obviously adores his wife and family. think the 19 year old is quite immature. I was most definitely not like that at 19yrs old then I left home to go to university at 18. That is probably the thing that struck me most, the fact that the 19 year old seems to be behaving like a 15/16 year old.

Was really refering to the cost though FioFio, more about the difference in class.

Roasted duck in not a meal we would consider as a normal everyday meal (unless dh was having duckpancakes from the chinese)

We always had game growing up as well (rabbit, pheasant) but it was more a treat for christmas time.

And it was never prepared by the butcher. Always by my dad after it had been hanging in our shed.
