Anyone know what this is about? Worth watching?

Think the parents were quite calm, all things considered!

They are young to have teenage kids, the Mum just looks worn out.

SlartyBartFast · 17/09/2008 22:06

she needs to leave home, sort out her debts herself .. and grow up a bit

SciFiFan · 17/09/2008 22:07

I agree nt - nothing wrong so long as it doesn't affect work - at least not too much.

I seemed to remember turning up feeling like sh*t sometimes and saving up the photocopying because standing at the copier made me feel sick .

Should I be saying 'God those were the days' or 'Thank goodness I don't do it now'!?!

WendyWeber · 17/09/2008 22:09

DD2 continued to live here for a bit between 18 & 19 but had to move out before we killed each other so we are identifying very much with Emily & her mum.

She has lived independently for 5 years now but is back while she does her last year at uni because she needs a car (Social Work degree/placement) & can't afford both that & rent. So-far-touch-wood things are 1000% better than they used to be.

Stroppy girls grow up.

Aitch · 17/09/2008 22:19

in my case, i grew up when my aunt pointed out that my mum was A Person and not just my mum. it had honestly not occurred...

mehgalegs · 17/09/2008 22:27

I was living and working in London at 18.

Emily seems very immature to me.

Hope we see more of the other children in next prog.

mrsruffallo · 17/09/2008 22:31

It is extremely normal to go out at 11or 12 o'clock.
At 19 I would never have gone out earlier than that

Dh and I watched it saying "ours won't be like that...will they? Will they?" Ds1 is 11 so not far off. I wasn't as bad as Emily but I was a moody cow and I was extremely scathing of my Mum - I thought she knew nothing.

The Mum doesn't look 40, does she? I liked the son - no-one seems to take much notice of him until he breaks something I thought it was sweet when he was having a cuddle with his Dad on the settee - hope he doesn't get teased at school for that.

But why would anyone do it - I can't imagine having to walk into the playground with ds2 this morning if everyone had watched me "warts and all" the previous night on TV. It's beyond me why any rational human being would agree to do it - I sort of understand the Big Brother thing, because they are all attention-seeking nutters, after their 15 minutes of fame, but why would an ordinary family agree to do this?

I was working abroad for over a year aged 18

can't imagine 19 yr old at home

agree with ww, this does look quite typical of a family doing their best

PuppyMonkey · 18/09/2008 09:39

Why don't they just charge her board and lodging? - then she won't have so much money to go out all the time. Teach her the value of money. Charge her for all those phone calls she makes to skive off work too...

If she's been 14 and outr of control, would have had sympathy for the parents. But she's 19....

If she'd been away at university, say, what would she be doing there - away from her mum and dad#s gaze???

ps. Wonder if it really is that easy to get a doctor to sign you off work with gastroenteritis? (sp)

SorenLorensen · 18/09/2008 09:40

I couldn't bear to look back on me as a teen (and I was a pussy cat compared to Emily) - you would just cringe at it, wouldn't you? Some things are best forgotten, I reckon. I think they are mad. Quite nice and reassuringly ordinary, but mad.

ssd · 18/09/2008 09:41

all this blaming the parents isn't fair

wait till our lot grow up!

PuppyMonkey · 18/09/2008 09:44

Our lot will get charged £3000 a week rent (taking into account inflation) when they grow up if they still live with me!!!

NorbertDentressangle · 18/09/2008 09:46

I saw a bit of this last night -it seemed to be full of mopey, long faces (mainly the Mum who obviously has a problem with hitting 40 and the daughter who kept going out ).

The poor boy and the other daughter who lives at home hardly got a look-in.

I agree that I don't know why they did this documentary -imagine walking around your local town and neighbourhood when everyone has seen your dirty laundry, so-to-speak.

RTKangaMummy · 18/09/2008 09:50

Emily has now grown up alot and has changed her attitude

NorbertDentressangle · 18/09/2008 09:51

Sounds like you have inside info there?

mehdismummy · 18/09/2008 09:53

i thought it was funny and the dad was hilarious!! amazed by how much the s look like their mum! i remember my dad doing the same lecture!!

lol Fio!

You'll probably walk past one of "The Family" in the street one day and say hello thinking that you know them and then spend the rest of the day trying to recall where you know them from before you have that moment of realisation (I did that with Phil Jupitus I think it was )

No I have seen them interviewed several times

WendyWeber · 18/09/2008 10:57

Norbert, the others hardly got a look in this time because the programme was about Emily.

The others will get their turns, don't worry.

(I couldn't do it either moo )

Boyswillbeboys · 18/09/2008 11:12

I was really looking forward to this but thought it was quite disappointing. Mum is a miserable old bag, felt sorry for the 14 year old son, the Dad is the only one I liked. All that rowing was worse than Big Brother!

Thought they were going to be a "normal" family, but they don't represent anything like most people's reality IMO.

I think Emily should expect to be treated like a child if she acts like one. She's a grown woman FFS. If she got a job and paid her way she should be able to come and go at whatever time she likes.
