Anyone looking forward to this being re shown next week?

I’m sure Egg seemed less annoying when I was 20. Middle age really does change your perspective on adults who don’t want to grow up!

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2026 15:13

I was annoyed ( irrationally) that Egg was successful years on as he didn’t seem to deserve that.
Miles too was a nasty back stabber. At least Egg wasn’t like him , but still annoying.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 13/04/2026 15:45

I didn't understand Anna mad Millie's relationship at all, that wasn't believable at all to me.

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/04/2026 16:24

I only watched the first episode and found it utterly cringe cringe cringe.

I loved it first time round though. I’ve decided to leave it all in the past where it belongs.

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2026 16:41

I am enjoying the nostalgia of a lack of phones ( they do mention mobiles , but not seen anyone with one ) The big landline phones and being able to smoke where you like! ( I’ve never smoked, but it makes you realize how much it’s outlawed now !)
It’s like a mini soap with so many stories on the go.

Violetparis · 14/04/2026 07:51

Watching it for the first time too. I really don't warm to Ferdy, think he's a pointless character and totally expressionless as an actor. And I've no idea what Millie saw in her boss.

the80sweregreat · 14/04/2026 09:07

I can see Mcdonnells attraction. Millie is very driven and hard working and he is the same.
Ferdy annoys me too. He is a strange one and although he is promiscuous, he seems to be very uptight with people who are like him! They are all a bit odd really.

O'Donnol was everything Egg wasn't, she didn't feel like his mother which must've been a blessed relief.

I think that was the point they were all quite flawed in their own ways.

the80sweregreat · 14/04/2026 09:51

O Donnell I mean. Had his name wrong.

DeborahVance · 14/04/2026 12:53

O'Donnell was powerful and capable. I can absolutely see the attraction for Millie

With his longish hair he was a bit of an ageing trendy type, but I think it was the contrast to Egg who Millie had to chivvy along all the time and support financially vs O'Donnell being the boss and having a black Amex card etc. and in my view O'Donnell purposely played off Rachel against Millie to make himself seem like a prize, when in fact he was just another married man who fancied shagging someone younger than his wife.

the80sweregreat · 14/04/2026 13:18

I would have thought that Egg wouid have ended up a well known chef and written cook books , he seemed to like that job.

And he reeled her in so carefully! He was so sympathetic when Egg quit and convinced Milly he was a friend to both of them, then as Egg shut her out and their relationship got worse he offered her a supportive shoulder, and assured her she was capable and impressive, and THEN he made his move…

I always appreciated that the show had straight-laced Milly being the one who ended up having the affair with her boss, instead of Anna despite her being SO vocal about being up for a transactional shag.

Violetparis · 14/04/2026 18:14

I just saw O'Donnell as a creep with greasy lanky hair, a sad middle aged man cheating on his wife and family. Millie could have done better than him and Egg.

Definitely a no from me, though this photo makes me realise he wasn't as ancient as I thought he was when I watched it the first time!

Delilah had one in one of the early episodes, I think.

the80sweregreat · 14/04/2026 21:14

Yeah, Delilah had a mobile didn’t she. I can remember people having them , but they were a novelty and expensive , so people didn’t use them much!

A man looking for a regular bit on the side wouldn't go for Anna - too feisty.

I think Lenny had one too ,but as you in 1996 they were not mainsteam
I didnt get my first mobile untill 2000

the80sweregreat · 15/04/2026 13:36

I got my first mobile in 2001. The novelty of getting a text. They were so unsophisticated back then!

Yes, exactly! Anna wouldn’t have thought twice about making a scene and torching the whole thing, but he knew Milly could be depended on to be “good” and keep it all quiet.

turquoiseshell · 15/04/2026 13:51

It was a very realistic depiction of the legal profession.

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 15/04/2026 14:08

I had a mobile in early 1995 when I started my first job. It was very clunky and nobody used to text back then
