Millie ❤️ awful yet not. I loved they were all flawed individuals. The soundtrack was immense - I believe we have Ricky Gervais to thank for that

Very weird thing about Millie - the only other thing I ever saw her in was a set of training videos I had to watch when I started working at the BBC in 2012. She was playing a lawyer, explaining all the legal things we needed to consider when making programmes.

I mean, it had to be an in-joke?

MrsHaroldWilson · 13/03/2026 22:28

I loved the way it was so glaringly obvious O'Donnell was a complete philanderer, had no intention of leaving his wife and had unsuccessfully tried it on with Rachel on the Paris trip, but super-intelligent Milly was blind to this.

HellenicOfTroy · 13/03/2026 22:31

Ahh i graduated and moved to London around the time off This Life and everyone I told said "Ooh it'll be just like This Life!".

And it sort of was tbh!

Great show though, sort of weird that Daniela Nardini and the actress who played Millie disappeared a bit. Ramon Tikaram though!! 😍

AWedgeOfLemonAndASmartAnswerForEverything · 13/03/2026 22:32

O'Donnell was so unsexy. But Egg is a warning to all men - if you're a perpetual man child your woman will run into the arms of any competent adult, even a slimy beanpole with a comb-over.

I've seen Daniella Nardini in the odd thing, but only bit parts. She was in an episode of 'Lewis'.

Silverbirchleaf · 13/03/2026 22:48

The actress who played Kira was Tina in Eastenders.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 13/03/2026 22:50

Absolutely loves this but doubt I'll watch it again as seen it so many times.

2Rebecca · 14/03/2026 00:27

Daniella Nardini was wonderful in this. I am surprised she wasn’t in more afterwards.

nozbottheblue · 14/03/2026 13:25

Thanks for letting us know! I loved it and always smile when I see Egg acting another rôle ever since 😊

MissBattleaxe · 14/03/2026 13:49

When it was on in the 90s, I was also living in London in a house share and listening to the same music. I wasn't in law though, but I loved it. Hated Egg- bloody man child. Loved Anna and also wish Daniela Nardini was in more stuff. Jack Davenport was corrrrr! Remember the Caeser cut that was popular around the time? Looking back, it's a shock to see everyone smoking all the time.

MrsHaroldWilson · 14/03/2026 14:19

I'm the same age as the This Life lot, and the series really captures the feeling of the late 90s for me, I was just starting work too, but it's not really about work so much as the music, what it was like going out back then and so on - it's a real 'time travel' watch for me.

Goingbacktoit · 14/03/2026 14:52

Loved it back when it was on originally.
Egg was gorgeous and still is. I will be watching.

JKGalbraithsTable · 14/03/2026 15:25

The actor who plays Egg’s dad will forever be Egg’s Dad to me.
Downton farmer? Egg’s Dad.
Nurse Cranes love interest in Call the Midwife? Eggs Dad.
Baddie in Life on Mars? Eggs dad.
Turned on The Archers one day…Eggs dad.
Pops up in all sorts of things.

keepingitcoolagain · 14/03/2026 15:31

Steve John Shepherd was so beautiful and I was so pissed that the girl from Grange Hill got him.

Loved Warren, ‘outstanding’

same here, he’s a well respected actor who has had a great career but he’s always Egg’s Dad in our house!

AWedgeOfLemonAndASmartAnswerForEverything · 14/03/2026 18:07

Agree about Egg's dad always being Egg's dad, and see also Warren's brother, who pops up all the time.

DeborahVance · 14/03/2026 18:11

I'm exactly their age and I loved it.

coolcahuna · 14/03/2026 18:12

We watched it on DVD and loved it so much. The days before phones so loved how life revolved around the pub etc!

RobinInTheCrabApple · 14/03/2026 19:46

I loved Ramon Tikaram in This Life but now I can only see him as Big Arsed Guru in Man Down.

He was the music supervisor. His partner Jane Fallon produced This Life.

Oh wow, I didn’t know that re Ricky. I possibly knew about Jane Fallon but had forgotten.

I loved this series so much. The ten year episode was a bit of a letdown, but I was excited to think they’d made a new 30 year anniversary episode, which sadly is not the case.

I shall be rewatching!

doublec · 14/03/2026 20:32

Loved This Life. Rewatched it shortly before the pandemic mostly because I was working somewhere that afforded a walk over Southwark Bridge and past their house twice daily. Pointed out it out to a few friends, particularly the roof terrace where Anna shags Egg's dad 😂

Really was a great tv series that very much was of its time. Brilliant music in it too. Doubt it would be made now. Just a shame the follow-up was such an anticlimax.

Zov · 30/03/2026 21:24

Going against the grain here.

Never watched This Life in the 1990s, (I have never seen it,) and I decided to give it a go.

I have watched the first episode. Not too impressed so far. I'm finding it hard to stay with it. I'm a bit bored. 😬

I will try a couple more episodes ... If it doesn't do anything for me by the end of episode 3, I won't be watching the other 30 episodes.

Finding it a bit cliched, twee, and predictable at the moment, and none of the characters are likeable IMO. (And as I said, I'm a bit bored.)

I think it took me about 3 episodes to get into it.
