https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-15628823/Nadiya-Hussain-attack-BBC-cancelled-difficult-conversations.html

I think this woman needs her to realise her star has fallen like a lot of minor celebs. She has had a good run and everything has did was tired. New cookery blood should be allowed a chance.

I thinks it's undignified to start accusing her erstwhile employers of racism.

Nadiya Hussain launches another blistering attack on the BBC

Nadiya Hussain has launched another blistering attack on the BBC after previously claiming she'd been axed due to racism in the 'broken' TV industry.

Would you look at a Christmas cook book or watch a Christmas food programme ?

I might look at a Christmas cookbook, I wouldn’t necessarily buy one. I don’t watch any cooking shows.
I do sometimes try out recipes I see on social media, often vegetarian ones from all over the world.

It beggars belief how long (Gr) egg Wallace bbc career was when he had almost no recognisable talents

Greg, the ex barrow boy who couldn't even cope with one episode of Strictly.

Zero talent. Friends in the right places.

"Jamie Oliver is a home cook..."

Jamie Oliver worked as a sous chef at the River Cafe, an Italian restaurant in London. When Jamie was working there it was awarded a Michelin star (which it still has to this day).

So, I think it's likely that he learnt how to be a bit more than a "home cook".

In contrast to that though, he did say that one of his inspirations was somebody without any formal training at all - Keith Floyd.

You may remember him from his various cooking shows in the 1980s and 1990s.

Some of his shows are still on BBC iplayer, such as his 1987 series 'Floyd on France'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03j5hgr/floyd-on-france-1-provence

Jamie Oliver isnt just a home cook absolutely

Most of the big chefs, proper chefs absolutely revere Keith Flloyd.

I loved him

Isnt there a famous clip of him getting Rick Stein's name wrong in a restaurant when Rick Stein wasnt known at all!!!

Also re Chalky, I think he had to be kept in the van a lot, didnt he chase someones cat once?

Flinging insults like 'deranged' and 'twat' and 'if it isn't too difficult for you' just makes you look as if you can't make your point without them.

I'm not a mind reader, so I have no idea whether or not she considered the possibility that she'd been axed because she wasn't any good. But neither do you, do you?

Likewise, the women who accused Wallace of harassing them - rightly, it appears - probably also had moments of thinking 'maybe it's just me'. People do. Especially, women do. If you have never experienced that feeling, then you are extremely fortunate.

You seem to have an enormous chip on your shoulder about something, and I don't really understand what it is.

SarahAndQuack · 10/03/2026 11:55

(And btw, please try to read posts properly. I didn't call you a silly woman, did I?)

No point replying to this as it will be deleted but why are you calling it a knee jerk response? She's been working with them for 10 years, she'll know what they're like much better than you do.

No chip, just no understanding of why when someone in a minority is sacked/axed/cut off after a long career would suddenly start shouting about racism when until that point it has never been an issue.

I also don’t know why Gregg Wallace was brought into this discussion at all. He is an absolute disgrace who doesn’t deserve airtime.

Correct, you are not a mind reader and nor am I so why would you second guess what her motives are? I am simply pointing out that she was happy to take the BBC coin for a long enough time and once that time ran out she’s happy to sling (non-evidence based) mud.

Apologies for the insults but honestly I have had enough of everything having to be about race, why can you not just be shit at your job??

If that’s Rick steins dog I’m sure I remember it killing a rabbit on an episode.

Nobody is telling Jamie oliver to move along and make way or marcus Waring Tom Ketteridge, for new blood, anyway i have nothing else to say about it , your thread says all i need to know about you op.

In fairness you’re talking about chefs who made their career in food first. She won a reality tv show and has had a good career on the back of it. I fully expect there are issues around race and gender at play but you can’t compare her to Michelin starred chefs, or someone who has a long, varied career in the media such as Jamie Oliver.

She didn't take their money, she earned a salary.

Is it only BAME people who you think 'take money' or white people too?

100% agree. Who on earth does she think she is?! Her shows were boring and dull and very few people watched them. They haven't axed her because she's really popular every one of her shows bring in 10 million viewers at a time. They've axed her because very few people are interested in watching her. She should be bloody grateful she was given what she was for the decade she had it!

She seemed affable and friendly before all this, and when this show was axed she could have gone onto other things on TV, but now she's just screaming 'poor me poor me' and shouting 'racism' at the BBC, no-one will employ her on TV ever again. She was the only Bake Off contestant to ever have her own show. We all know why the BBC gave it to her, but they have realised it wasn't the best idea, as the show was not a success. They kept her on waaaaay longer than they should have, she should be grateful!

As you say @mids2019 she needs to get a job, like everyone else has to!

As I said, after all this moaning and accusations, does she think anyone will ever want to employ her in TV again?! Indeed, will anyone want to employ her at all?

As for THIS that she said..

Hitting back at the accusations, she said: 'Unfortunately, as a woman – and a woman of colour – if you speak up, often it's considered "being difficult" or "being a nuisance",

Nadia, it's not just women of colour who are accused of being difficult if they speak up or complain!

Why is she doing this? What does she think she's going to achieve? Is she after compensation? Is she trying to make them re-employ her? Does she think someone will feel sorry for her and give her another job in TV?! Because none of those things is going to happen! She is shooting herself in the foot every time she speaks!!!

.

What on earth?

I brought Wallace up because he is a good example of someone working for the BBC who has - we now know - a long history of discriminating against people. It wouldn't be a surprise to discover there were others like him. That is why I think it's fair to take Nadiya's criticisms seriously, because she - like the other women - may well turn out to be identifying a bigger problem.

I think it's commendable that she is using her platform to do that.

I didn't second-guess her motives, though ... you did! And I pointed out that neither of us knows whether or not she worried about whether it was her own problem before deciding she thought it was discrimination.

I don't believe everything is about race. And of course some people aren't good at their jobs. But that doesn't mean nothing is ever about race, either.

Why do you think she's come to the end of her TV career after 10 years and yet someone like Rick Stein - with his dull voice, boring recipes and zero personality - has been on BBC cooking shows for decades. I wonder why he gets longevity and she doesn't? What could it possibly be?

The fact that Rick stein has previously been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand probably explains that.

why is everyone comparing Nadiya to esteemed chefs, who have the TV shows as their side hustles when she is a fantastic home cook?

and as others have repeatedly said, no one is commissioning new food-related shows. It all comes down to audience ratings. If they drop, people lose their commissions 🤷‍♀️

I genuinely really like her, but I don’t tend to watch her shows, or cooking shows anymore

Yes, no one is saying ‘Look, Nigel, we’ve had enough of you unwrapping things in your pantry from brown paper with a weirdly fetishistic air’ or ‘Rick, Chalky the dog was three times more charming than you — we’re done here’.

Brilliant.

This seems to have turned into an anti Nadiya thread Hmm

As a woman of colour in a predominantly white industry, with an ethnic name also, it absolutely fucks me off how the majority of you can’t even be arsed to spell her name right even when it’s plain as day in the links your posting.

This site is really just gutter level now.

Someone upthread also got Tom Kerridge's name wrong. Have you got a problem with that too? It's irrelevant.

I went to a Jamie's Italian and thought it was rubbish - and yet in Europe, where there is no shortage of quality Italian restaurants, the chain is thriving. Plus branches in the Middle East.

The man has carried on making money regardless of how often his restuarants go bust.

I very much doubt his restaurant chain was backed with only his money. I would imagine some private equity firm fronted up most of the seed money and were happy for him to put his name to the venture, design menus, act as consultant and help get the whole thing off the ground. The company would have been set up as limited and thus insulating him personally from loss.

I think I got his name wrong too because I copied someone else!!

I think I just posted as well a memory of when Keith Flloyd first met Rick Stein and got his name wrong, to his face, having been introduced to him!

Why malice is ascribed to things like this I do not know.
