Anybody else watched yet? I watched thus morning while I had the house to myself.

Enjoyed it, although cant say I like the Fauth storyline. As a book reader I found it too far fetched. As if Faith could have taught Fanny a song, that Claire sang to a baby!. A stillborn baby at that.

Lovely to see Fergus, Marsali and the children again as well.

Can I have Ian as a builder? He can certainly put a house up quickly.

Lord John needs to put a boot up Williams bum. Spoilt brat.

I really enjoyed this last episode - yes perhaps drew things out a bit towards the end but thought it was a great bookend to the TV series, especially as there is still one book to go. A satisfying ending. Agree that earlier parts of this series 8 had some puzzling decisions from the writers, but there you go.

blibblibs · 16/05/2026 16:18

I'm almost glad it's finished, these last two seasons have been pretty rubbish but that always seems to happen with long series.
I just didn't feel anything, whereas some of the earlier stuff can still bring a tear to my eye.
I reckon they're thinking they'll make a movie after book 10, and Claire should be thankful it's done now cause she really would've been hung for being a witch after that!

paulhollywoodshairgel · 16/05/2026 20:14

I thought the after credits scene was a great touch!

WhyDoesItAlways · 16/05/2026 22:02

I liked the premise of the ending but I just didn't feel it. I think i would have been more bothered for Brianna if Roger had died than I was for Claire with Jamie dying. I feel like those 2 have had so many near misses that they were lucky to have spent as much of their lives together as they did. And quite honestly when Claire got involved in the war all I could think was bloody stupid woman!

ProudWomanXX · 16/05/2026 22:15

I thought it was great, if you've never read the books.
I have, multiple times, and the difference between the book storyline and the TV series, was jarring.

But, the last episode was objectively good.

VanGoSunflowers · 16/05/2026 22:23

Just finished watching the last episode and did a search to see if there were any threads about it. I don’t know what to make of the ending. I’m not a fan of an ambiguous ending to be honest!

I finished watching having only started on series 8 a few days ago as I got 30 days free with Prime and they offered 7 days free of MGM+.

Only mentioning that as I wouldn't have paid to watch as I found the last series just a let down.

Funnily enough watching it for me was a bit like comfort tv. All the twists and turns just seemed like echos of incidents from other series, but did notice the actual dialogue was better than the last series which was often terribel. Then saw towards the end that it had been written by Diana Gabaldon herself.

But as others have already posted some of the plots just didn't work.

And could not make out what the motive had been to lie to Clare and tell her her daughter had died? Then I started to think it was so that Clare would have some purpose after Jamie had died. (I assumed that was what was going to happen.) And just as others found the Faith story line tedious I found the Frank book with all those helpful notes tedious. And in the end didn't have the crucial info. Make sure your prisoners are disarmed!

And too much sex IMO. They are cringey. But worse with Roger and Bree. Although I found her less irritating than I have in other series.

Apart from the dead baby who wasn't really dead not being explained. What were the blue lights? And the grey steaks in the hair? And then all grey?

Did we get told what happened to Williams cousin who turned rebel and conspired with his wife to hide the fact? And really thought they were going to make the plot line even more complicated by Amaranthus getting pregnant. But she suddenlty just wasn't part of the plot any more.

I thought tagging on the book signing etc., at the end was really naff and nearly turned off, but then would have missed the final breath.

IwantToRetire · 17/05/2026 22:51

I think someone will come up with the idea to have another spin off series, set in the 1800's - during the Civil War? - with various descendants, some who have returned to Scotland and some who have stayed in the US.

Am I the only one who thought Claire died of grief after Jamie died?

No! I totally forgot that that's what I thought. Jamie takes a breathe, comes back to life and finds Claire dead beside him!

ProudWomanXX · 17/05/2026 23:40

At the book signing at the end, was that item on the table what I think it was?

WhyDoesItAlways · 17/05/2026 23:48

I thought they were both alive at the end lying on a standing stone. I'd quite like it if they've both woken up in the 20th century. Wouldn't mind seeing a season of that.

The book on the table with Diana Gabaldon at the end was Claires journal. Theres also a blue vase on the mantlepiece behind her. Ive seen theories online that Diana may be mandy or another decendant hence her having the journal

ProudWomanXX · 17/05/2026 23:50

I was deliberately being vague, so as not to spoiler!

ProudWomanXX · 18/05/2026 00:05

The stone they are lying on looks like THE standing stone from Craig na Dun.
And it's got a crack in it ...( Just rewatched the ending on slo mo!)

So you mean not only people but Stones are time travelling?!

They’re alive. Claire’s hair had turned white and a small blue orb passed from her to Jamie just before they segued to the highlander standing watching Claire right at the beginning of series one. It’s the fulfilment of her ability to heal that has been prophesied, the blue light business that would reach its zenith when her hair was white.

ProudWomanXX · 18/05/2026 07:19

I had to rewatch several times in slo mo, to see the blue light. I was expecting it to be around her hands, but it came from her heart , to his.
And yes, just before it cut to Jamie standing under Claire's window in Inverness, from the very first episode (as The Ghost in Highland dress that Frank saw)

crumpet · 18/05/2026 10:53

I didn’t clock that Jamie was wearing trousers when he opened his eyes rather than his war kilt

That was my first thought too but I assumed she had died of grief and they both woke up in heaven or something.

I didn’t enjoy the last season at all. I don’t understand why they killed Fergus off and why the bloody hell Jamie went to fight if he knew he was going to die?!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 18/05/2026 13:12

I wonder if Diana G will ever finish the series now or if readers will be left in limbo like the way they were after Game of Thrones finished? GRRM still hasn't written the last book!

Speaking of GoT, how many shows have now done the "Jon Snow comes back to life with a gasp" thing?

You are more rigorous than I am! I went by some photos on t’internet rather than checking for myself. Thank you - to everyone else, please ignore my post!
