I loved that casey joined in with the buckets bit. And the wall of buckets was enormous. Beautifully done.

TheUsualChaos · 17/02/2026 10:58

We watched the first two episodes. Anything MC does always seems to be so beautifully done.

DD loved Worzel. Does anyone know if this will be suitable viewing for a 12 yo? So far it seems ok? Possibly slightly dark?

placemats · 17/02/2026 11:11

It has strong language. I wouldn't judge if you let your daughter watch it. You know her better than me.

TheUsualChaos · 17/02/2026 11:33

Oh really, perhaps didn't notice that enough! Will watch the rest of the series first and see how it goes.

It's maybe got adult themes? So perhaps stuff would go over her head. Hope this isn't classed as a spoiler but you don't get random penises (looking at you Knight of the seven kingdoms and betrayal) thankfully. There is no nudity etc.

As they are only 30 minutes long maybe watch first and then gauge if suitable? Especially as it's on quite late for a 12 year old? I binged and am now watching again in real time - just for the bucket scene really.

It surprised me when they showed the 'contains strong language' message. I remember seeing an interview with MC where he said he regretted the language in Detectorists as it cut out swathes of possible viewers.

No willys in e 3456

humph. Not watching it now 🙄😂😂😂😂

Yeah the Dectectorists could easily have been family viewing to watch with older children/teens. DD loves things that are fairly slow paced, relaxed with some good humour. She's just about at the age that we can overlook a bit of swearing within reason 😆

Lovelygreenpen · 18/02/2026 10:00

Thats interesting I don’t remember there being any swearing in The Detectorists just some funny Mickey taking of Simon and Garfunkel..

I absolutely loved the ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ ref in the shop

Becky was quite a testy character; her dialogue often featured the F word.

GrillaMilla · 18/02/2026 19:35

I can't come into work today I've got a runny bottom 😂

The bucket scene felt very Monty Python, I'm wondering if Michael Palin had any input on the comedy elements

TheUsualChaos · 18/02/2026 21:20

Yes! Very Monty Python! 😆 Michael Palin was in Worzel as well wasn't he. I wonder if MC grew up watching him.

I remember her yelling ‘There’s no money in doing FUCK ALL either!’ over her shoulder as she stomped off down the street.

I didn’t always like Becky.

TheUsualChaos · 18/02/2026 22:20

Yeah she was quite sweary. I did feel for her though. A stressed, knackered full time teacher while her husband spent his time pissing about with a metal detector. There was a lot of raw emotion behind all the light hearted humour.

Lovelygreenpen · 18/02/2026 22:47

This is funny, thank you for all your reminders about the sweary scenes in The Detectorists.
I think I gave Becky a free pass for all her swearing and forgot about it just because I had had DC and related very strongly to her character at the time! Lol.

Was he? I don't remember him in WG but I'm off to Google.

TheUsualChaos · 19/02/2026 00:01

He played the Green man.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 19/02/2026 03:16

I loved the second episode. I do think, though, that the obsessive neighbour is an odd portrayal. He seems too young to be inclined to this type of behaviour. But maybe that's deliberate - giving him the characteristics normally played by a retired older man on TV, but making him young? For what it's worth, I quite like Michael's front garden!

MyOtherProfile · 19/02/2026 07:11

TheUsualChaos · 19/02/2026 00:01

Yes! I had forgotten.

senua · 19/02/2026 08:26

That was my very first reaction to the programme - "what a lovely garden!" I then realised that it was overgrown but, what the heck, it's lush and green.
I wasn't quite so forgiving when he started dumping the contents of the shed out front but perhaps it's a plot-point and the homunculi will make use of the junk carefully curated recyclables. <crosses fingers>

TheUsualChaos · 19/02/2026 09:24

Thought the same about the garden, nice to see a front garden that isn't just bricked over.
I got the impression with the younger neighbour he is portraying that trend we see so much of now where everything has to be brand new, straight lines and nothing that looks remotely natural. I picture his back garden to be one giant patio with loads of massive garden furniture and a top of the range BBQ. Or AstroTurf. I bet Michael's old car really irritates him as well especially as he parks it on the road in full view 😆

SirChenjins · 19/02/2026 09:32

Same! I'd love a front and back garden like. I've just got the last episode to watch now, and feel quite sad at the thought of the end. Surely there must be a second season?
