I'm just thinking of the Little Britain character. "Wite the feeme toon, sing the feeme toon"

ShrinkingViolet · 30/06/2008 17:22

several posts behind everyone else - Marc Warren has already been in DW (Elton in Love and Monsters) so sadly couldn't be DW.

MaryHinge · 30/06/2008 17:25

I'm definitely thinking Phillip Glenister playing Gene Hunt playing DW. Would be fab

PersephoneSnape · 30/06/2008 18:48

alan cumming. thank you very much.

KayHarker · 30/06/2008 19:06

Marc Warren as Elton wouldn't necessarily mean he couldn't do it.

I don't want him to, but like I've said before, being another character doesn't mean you can't play the Doctor at some point.

OP posts:
boozyloonupapole · 30/06/2008 19:25

i thought it looked a bit Jack Dee-ish

RustyBear · 30/06/2008 19:43

Colin Baker was Commander Maxil, a Panopticon guard in Arc of Infinity about a year before he played tghe Doctor (not that anything concerning Colin Baker could be viewed as a good precedent in Dr Who....)

tigermoth · 30/06/2008 19:53

I too have read that David Tennant is contracted for a few more years yet to work on some one off and shorter Dr Who episodes.

I have every hope DT will stay somehow. Sean Bean or Robert Carlisle would be ok, but hope DT stays.

Was thinking about the name 'Donna Noble' and its meaning. 'Donna' is close to 'doner'. Perhaps she has to give something to save the doctor and everything else - a noble donation.

I think it's got to be relevant that other characters on different planets seem to know of her already and treat her reverence. She must do something that is very signficant.

As someone said it's brilliant that I can share a bit of my childhood with my children.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 19:56

oh YEA, PS, alan cumming. although not right after DT imo. too similarly pixieish.

I think donna is more likely to mean lady as RTD and the crew love their cod-latin - it featured heavily in one episode that I have now forgotten (the boarding school one?). As the nasty soothsayer pointed out in Pompeii, Donna Noble - noble lady (although it should be nobilis, I think).

tigermoth · 30/06/2008 20:18

please not Trevor Eve. He will always be 'Shoestring' to me even though that was years ago.

For grumpy but still hot, and good actor, I'd go for Robbie Coltrane.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 20:20

i don't get trevor eve at all. or sean bean. i think even beginning to like them signals the onset of perimenopause.

tigermoth · 30/06/2008 20:20

That's interesting, Edam. I do think her name is relevant in some way. (Oh, I am being drawn in to geekery)

MadamePlatypus · 30/06/2008 20:25

Sean Bean has been in too many American films with an awful Irish accent to be the doctor.

I like Robert Carlisle, but would they want another Scot?

I would put money on DT staying though.

Was somebody suggesting Hugh Laurie?

Aitch · 30/06/2008 20:25

or even stephen fry, actually.

Tiger, dryad had another theory, way back down the thread. Donna keeps telling everyone she's a temp - and temp noble almost means Time Lady.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 20:40

hey, i wuv gil grissom... i haven't a varicose-weined leg to stand on. [hot flash emoticon]

tigermoth · 30/06/2008 20:41

I do think the way the Donna character is presented is interesting. She has always seems a bit detached to me, as if she is not just another doc's assistant. I await Saturday with interest. I do hope she is reunited with her man from the library.

I wonder if the doctor's daughter will reappear?

PortBlacksandResident · 30/06/2008 20:43

Marcus Brigstocke???

PersephoneSnape · 30/06/2008 20:59

yes, i'd like her to find Lee (?) from the library again at the end - a compensation for being earth-bound' .

dd said one of the reasons why she likes Donna so much is that she's a mum figure. she's caring and compassionate, but looks out for the doctor and doesn't moon around all pie eyed at DT. makes a refreshing change wonder who the next companion will be - given that we know Ms tate isn't doing another season - theres more certainty of a new companion than a new who at the mo,or whether they'll do the specials without a fellow traveller, to make the lonliness etc more poignant before bringing River song back.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 21:02

i really liked river song, i must say. and sally sparrow.

MrsTweedy · 30/06/2008 21:17

I really really really think Donna should be allowed to find Lee after she has done her amazing whatever. Noble Lady or noble gift, she deserves some happiness after having been labelled a failure by her mother all her life. She is definitely my favourite companion so far
