Thought I'd kick it off so we have a new thread for the final leg

Old Thread for the people what likes it all neat 'n' stuff.

OP posts:

Agree, Mrs Tweedy, Donna has been a fab companion. Far more interesting than the standard 'pretty girl who fancies the doctor' version. (Although Rose was the best ever pretty girl who fancies the doctor and made that role moving rather than irritating.)

I hope she finds other acting roles as well. She has really grown on me. Anyone know or guess if she's in the Christmas special? I would assume not.

SorenLorensen · 30/06/2008 22:15

Why's it always Daleks ?

Aitch · 30/06/2008 22:28

that's what dh said. to quote: 'what are they all crying for? they've all pissed on the daleks' heads every time.'

SorenLorensen · 30/06/2008 22:31

Exactly. Every time they all go wibbly...oh-they-are-the-scariest-thing-ever-we're-all-gonna-die and then...beat them. OK, I know the Time War and all that but we didn't actually see much of that did we? The Doctor could be exaggerating.

MrsTweedy · 30/06/2008 22:39

Ah but they always had the doctor with them before, & this time he was missing.
Daleks are tradishunal

SorenLorensen · 30/06/2008 22:42

Yeah but he's on his way isn't he? (that's my cavalry charging to the rescue music).

I guess they are tradishunal. But even as a kid I didn't find them scary. I found the seaweed-covered slimey things scary, but Daleks just look...well...a bit daft.

Flashman · 30/06/2008 22:43

This is very well done - The Doctor and Rose

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 22:43

(just to go back to the whole who could be the next doctor thing, I was thinking as I did the washing up, that maybe Peter Capaldi would have been good, if only they hadn't used him so recently. Those eyes do it for me. And the accent. Anyway. As you were...)

SorenLorensen · 30/06/2008 22:45

I think it's partly because we used to play Daleks with the school milk (showing my age now - before Thatcher Thatcher Milk Snatcher, when school milk came warm in miniature milk bottles). We used to push the straw through the foil top, bend it over, then scoot them round the desks going "Ex-ter-mi-nate!"

edam · 30/06/2008 22:45

The Doctor's companions have seen the Daleks killing lots of people, though, just not them (most of 'em). And they did kill Captain Jack.

Which is scarier, a Dalek or a Cyberman? Daleks are bloody terrifying but there is something wired into my brain about Cybermen. When they brought them back, I clutched dh's hand so hard he said it reminded him of the way I'd nearly broken it during childbirth!

SorenLorensen · 30/06/2008 22:51

See, Cybermen don't do it for me either. Got to be the slimey seaweedy things.

Or the statues in Blink. Obviously.

Awww at the YouTube video. They have to be reunited. If only so that the Doctor can ask Rose why she's talking funny

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 23:00

It was things like The Green Death and the Ark in Space that scared me.

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 23:08

Tigermoth - Donna kebab! LOL!

The Ark In Space was the first full story I properly watched, at the age of 5. I made DD watch it when she was a toddler. Who cares that the larvae are bubble-wrap painted green? It's a wonderful exercise in atmosphere and mood.

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 23:11

Yes - crap costumes, but the idea of a human gradually becoming an alien scared the living daylights out of me.

Flashman · 30/06/2008 23:16

Perhaps I am being strange here now, but I am really worried now that DW could go into labour on Sat, and I will end up missing the Doctor. I really don't think I can get away with asking her to wait till the end. Fingers crossed it wil not happen.

Please, Please Please!!!!

edam · 30/06/2008 23:17

I'm not sure what the first story I watched was but it definitely had John Pertwee in it.

Was in the green room of a TV show years ago with my mum. One of the people hanging around was a fairly nondescript middle-aged man. Suddenly we realised he was there on the studio monitor, clearly a guest on the show, not merely a friend/relation/hanger on as we'd assumed. When they showed some of his past clips my mother announced in a very clear voice: 'Oh, so that's who he is.'

Only Mrs Fraser Hines was right in the room with us and gave us such a filthy look... I think at the time he was supposed to be well known for appearing in Emmerdale or something we never watched.

edam · 30/06/2008 23:19

(past clip being Dr Who, obv.)

Flashman, lolololol. I may be a mother, but I'm on your side. Keep her away from pineapples, curries and raspberry leaf tea, don't drive over any speed bumps and for God's sake don't even think about thinking about sex until Dr Who is over!

cornsilk · 30/06/2008 23:23

Couldn't the faithful companion who dies be river song and the dalek is predicting the future? Maybe the doctor meets her in the next episode.
My money's on Jenny and Mickey in the mother ship.(and maybe river song)

Flashman · 30/06/2008 23:32

I have no idea how anyone could poss be thinking about sex - all I am wondering about is if DT is still going to be the Doctor, or if Donna turns out to have something to do with the master?? Arrghhh this waiting is killing me

Flashman · 30/06/2008 23:44

Just one more - I thing these are great!!

PortAndLemon · 30/06/2008 23:55

I was due with DD around the time this series started and was worried I'd miss that -- fortunately she arrived a couple of days early so I was safely ensconced on my own sofa by the time it came around.

Just practice saying "No, no, dear, I'm sure you're not really in labour yet" with the requisite degree of conviction.

Flashman · 30/06/2008 23:59

I think that will not work - I have already said to her to take yourself to the hospital if it happens - i'll meet you when it is over. She really just does not have a sense of humour at the moment. I really can't see why! Oh and most shockingly - she actually hates the Doctor!!!
