UD - do you mean Matthew McFadyean? Or is Richard Armitage in Spooks too? RA usually Guy of Gisborne in Robin Hood, atm.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 16:20

ooooh, it's not hard, it's fab. what a laugh, watching telly and writing about it. it's brilliant.

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 16:20

(oops - just googled, RA is in Spooks, sorry!)

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 16:20

Regeneration limit was supposed to be 13, but only because of a throwaway line in a story from 1976 which only saddoes like me and kayHarker and I are going to remember.

The Master ran out of lives a couple of times but he gained the power to take over other bodies. He's more than just a Time Lord like the Doctor - he has the lingering powers of something called the Keeper of Traken (don't ask) which he was for a while.

They aren't doing a full series because of various things - giving it a bit of breathing space, and DT doing Shakespeare.

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 16:21

where did that me and I come from? most bizarre

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 16:22

Dior - Susan was the first ever Doctor's granddaughter/companion from the 60s.

gizmo · 30/06/2008 16:22

So tell us about the Keeper of Traken, UD?

KayHarker · 30/06/2008 16:22

It's not unheard of for the Doctor to be an actor who was previously in the series as someone else, though.

The specials are all down to the production team changing, and I think they'll be a good idea for a breather before charging back into a new era, tbh.

i want this guy coolest character who ever lived imo. and the guy who plays him can sing and dance! (did he write five guys named moe or have i dreamed that?)

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 16:23

Tell you what, let them do it...

Aitch · 30/06/2008 16:24

he's american, though. but i would tolerate that in this instance.

Dior · 30/06/2008 16:24

Message withdrawn

gizmo · 30/06/2008 16:24

Yeah, much as I'll miss it, I can't help but feel the series needs to take some ...deep...breaths...rather than hurtle on at it s current pace.

This has been such a brilliant year it would be hard to top it, I think.

PortAndLemon · 30/06/2008 16:26

IIRC the limit was artificially enforced by Gallifreyan bureaucracy, or something, wasn't it? Therefore with no more Gallifrey you could argue that there's no more limit.

RTD was on record as saying that he'd never cast someone over (40? 45? I forget exactly) as the Doctor... but then, SM is taking over... but then again, SM has been rather focused on Doctor-as-romantic-lead...

KayHarker · 30/06/2008 16:26

UQD - we are the threefold man!

OP posts:
Aitch · 30/06/2008 16:26

actually, he's english and also brilliant.

and while i'm running 'black actors who had to leave our shores in order to get interesting work' through my head... what's the name of that guy who was in Oz? eammon something. i rather adore him, with his patrician features...

Aitch · 30/06/2008 16:28

eammonn walker
okay, it's not his best photo but i am Telling You he is a brilliant actor.

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 16:28

It was never clearly stated if the regeneration cap was a bureaucratic imposition, a physical limit or something weird to do with the Matrix.

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 16:29

Hmm - Marc Warren? But his eyes freak me out, so I hope not.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 16:29

WHY is no one YESSING at my brilliant suggestions? have you not seen the wire yet? oh you lot will love it.

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 16:30

Or Adrian Lester (while we're on people who were in Hustle).

gizmo · 30/06/2008 16:30

Oh Adrian Lester, I like that idea. Classy.

JackieNo · 30/06/2008 16:30

Haven't seen The Wire, sorry.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 16:30

lol, yes, but he's a bit bland imo.
