Thought I'd kick it off so we have a new thread for the final leg

Old Thread for the people what likes it all neat 'n' stuff.

OK this was posted by 'Duncan' to give him credit... as it's not clear from the post the Doctor mentioned the Trickster in reference to the amazingly crap- time eating bug

Quote "In the Sarah Jane Adventures, The Trickster said he deflected all the events/attacks etc. that Sarah would have been involved with as part of his retroactive changes to the timeline to allow Andrea to replace Sarah. Since he seems to have been part of what happened to Donna, presumably he deflected the Daleks, Pyrovillians, Carrionites etc. in order to mess specifically with Donna's life post the point where she would have met the Doctor.

This wasn't explained directly in 'Turn Left', but then there wasn't really a point where it could have been brought up.

Either that or the divergent reality with the dead Doctor and the changed Donna ran in parallel with the one where the Doctor didn't die - and that Doctor went and dealt with all of those things (including with his Donna) up until the turn right moment when his actions no longer impacted on the parallel Donna in the alternate timeline. That would have continued, in his timeline, up until Donna vanished in Shan Shen, her history altered, banishing her to the alternate reality. Or the version of reality with the living Doctor and Donna would simply have ceased to exist - with impact on the past but not on the future, their branch of reality giving way to the new one." End Quote

Did that help, or make it worse lol I haven't seen the episode from SJA so can't agree or disagree with it really.

SaintGeorge · 23/06/2008 16:57

OK, I think I'm going with 'timey wimey stuff'.

serenity · 23/06/2008 17:03

Yep, that's my answer to everything too

TinkerbellesMum · 23/06/2008 17:08

Just looked at Wiki...

Paul O'Grady as Himself!!!!!!!!!!

This could be interesting!!!

UnquietDad · 23/06/2008 18:08

None of that other stuff actually happened, did it? The beetle jumped on Donna and fell off. That's all that happened to "our" Donna. But she still somehow "experienced" the other universe, as she remembered Rose and what she;d told the Doctor to tell her.

Did anyone else find it a bit "Star Trek"? The ending was very reminiscent of the early ST episode "City at the Edge of Forever" where Joan Collins has to die in front of a truck. And I can see the whole conceopt being done by TNG: "On the planet Shan Shen, Deanna Troi visits a fortune-teller and is taken over by an alien intelligence which transforms her world into one where she never joined the Enterprise crew."

cornsilk · 23/06/2008 20:19

what about Donna's dad? Thy mention him every now and again - what happened to him?

ReverseThePolarity · 23/06/2008 20:19

OMG have just watched the two trailers....

DAVROS!!!

I can't believe I've loaned Genesis of the Daleks to my 3 y/o nephew... (who lives miles away) would be just perfect to watch it again before Saturday. Ah well.

Hadn't thought about TL being like Star Trek but now you come to mention it I really can see what you mean.

KayHarker · 23/06/2008 20:36

UQD, well, it's not a million miles away from Father's Day either, really.

It's the 'throw-youself-in-front-of-a-moving-vehicle-to-save-the-world' agenda that RTD has been pushing!

OP posts:
edam · 23/06/2008 20:39

Now you come to mention it, Kay, he does, doesn't he. Very odd. Is he supporting those people who want to control the population or something? Trying to encourage us to jump off the edge of cliffs like lemmings (only they don't, apparently).

RustyBear · 23/06/2008 20:55

It's probably the Buffy influence again... 'Death is my gift....'

serenity · 24/06/2008 01:25

cornsilk - unfortunately the actor who played Donna's dad (whose name escapes me atm) died of cancer just after they started filming. Bernard Cribbin's 'Grandad' role takes his part over, rather than recasting (which they didn't feel was right to do)

cornsilk · 24/06/2008 02:48

But isn't he Donna's grandad - what about her dad? Her mum keeps mentioning him.

cornsilk · 24/06/2008 02:49

Oh I get you now.

SaintGeorge · 24/06/2008 10:26

Ah but UQD, the beetle dropped off because Rose did her bit and sent Donna back in time to change direction. If the pyrowotsits had destroyed the world in the past, everything should have imploded before that so Rose/Donna wouldn't even exist to put things right ergo big plothole .

Anyhooo I went with the condescending expression, patronising pat on head and 'timey wimey' explanation.

DH's previous faith in Mumsnet is now somewhat dented .

PersephoneSnape · 24/06/2008 10:53

right. who is Donna. what will she become?

stitch · 24/06/2008 11:35

her dad died.

cornsilk · 24/06/2008 11:38

I think who her dad was might be something to do with Donna's mystery. They drop a mention of him in every now and again.

mankyscotslass · 24/06/2008 11:43

I reckon Donna is a hidden timelady, or key to they Medusa Cascade or something like that.....

stitch · 24/06/2008 11:45

whats the medusa cascade?

mankyscotslass · 24/06/2008 11:59

It's a place where there was a rift in space and time the Doctor is supposed to have sealed...I think it was mentioned in the Pompeii episoda and also last of the time lords, but not sure if it ever criopped up before that.

mankyscotslass · 24/06/2008 12:00

. I need to remember to preview and check spelling.

cornsilk · 24/06/2008 12:23

still think her dad's got something to do with it. (persistent and stubborn emoticon)

mankyscotslass · 24/06/2008 12:34

THat could b where her time lady side comes from...maybe her father is the Master? or even...isnt the Doctor supposed to be half human? maybe she is related to him?

cornsilk · 24/06/2008 12:35

Yes that's what I thought - her dads got some connection to it all.

prettybird · 24/06/2008 12:49

Her dad was at her wedding, so it's not as if he hasn't been seen before.
