Rose Schmits chose to leave the show. She is a very talented ceramist - you can see some of her amazing work here: About — ROSE SCHMITS

As I said, it doesn't make any difference for the Great Pottery Throw Down (although throwing bigger pieces is obviously easier for males but so far there havent been any challenges where the actual size was a problem).

(Incidentally I don't like Rose's work at all, I find some of it quite offensive actually).

Wow I love those tentacle pots! Glad to see so many are sold out. She must be doing well.

EnterQueene · 07/01/2026 12:01

The tentacle pots are superb. They have such energy they look like movement arrested, like they are going to scuttle towards you at any moment.

I’m watching now, I always enjoy it but hate the “comedy” interludes. I record it so I can ffw through those. I wondered if anyone else would think Flynn is a TM

I immediately thought Flynn was a man.

I mean woman! As in trans man.

Davros · 07/01/2026 12:24

@KnickerlessParsons me too

CrossPurposes · 07/01/2026 12:54

I thought Angharad's was lovely. The only set that I would like to have.

LittleBitofBread · 09/01/2026 09:34

Angharad's was beautiful and classic. I can imagine finding it in a junk shop and thinking it was from 100 or 150 years ago. So bold to use just one colour.
Naveed's was similarly bold, I thought, and I think the modern shapes were just right for the modern and graphic decoration.
Bill's was fabulous. Great biscuits and a really 'cosy' feel. I like him too; he seems humorous and gentle.
Kayleigh: a bit underwhelming for me.
Kaz: Lovely and quirky. Great sculpting skills.
Mark: nice decoration, but the overall look was a bit 'heavy', I thought.
Whitney's was better than they said, I thought; I liked the simplicity of the black and the starry sky idea. I think his days on the show are numbered though.
Elham: was she the one with the little figures inside the handles? Really characterful and skilful.
Fynn's dog illustrations were truly beautiful, works of art, but overall I found the decoration a bit all over the place and not coherent. Fynn is definitely and obviously female.
Olympia's was sweet, but she said it: she didn't turn in her best work.
Emily's was a bit underpraised IMO. Her sculpting and painting was exceptional, the concept was strong and I loved how each handle had a sculpted animal underneath.
Andrew's was quite professional-looking. I'm not sure but I think blue and white fits with the Victorian idea – didn't they like chinoiserie in general in that period, a lot of which is blue and white? I find him a bit pleased with himself though.

I do love the Throwdown. It seems so kind compared to some other competition shows.

EDITED typos

Just watching episode 1 with my dad, a potter so he's known people on it before. He's pretty happy to see Bill on it, says he's a good bloke. I am trying to persuade him to apply for it next year, although he's probably too old now. He's struggling to believe Fynn in a woman.

7:45 again tonight

I went back and rewatched series 8 and the outcome annoyed me as much as it had the first time!!

AlicePottery · 11/01/2026 19:16

I can't remember, who won?

I can't remember, who won?

James, who did the amazing sheep mugs. I really liked him.

Chrysanthemum5 · 11/01/2026 19:36

I liked James a lot but his final piece was broken and they made people leave for having cracks so it made no sense to give the prize to a broken pot

AlicePottery · 11/01/2026 19:43

Aaaahhhhh yes, I do remember

Love Sioban's earrings and dress 🍄
The tunnel bookends in the examples were brilliant, have just added them to my 'things to make' list

There’s a few fragile pointy bits in there!

AlicePottery · 11/01/2026 20:10

Fynn's looks great so far, loving the dogs too.

There are so many pièces that could break in the firing 😬

They are all so imaginative, they could all look amazing - if they survive the kiln.

None of our business.

Urgh, horrible task!
