I feel the same about everything having to tell 'a story' - and often about themselves. If you didn't have a good or interesting childhood or just want to keep your own life private, why does your art have to be about yourself?

It's for the telly... if it was "well green is my favourite colour and I like penguins" it'd be emotionless garbage.

I'd be quite happy to do without some of the emotion dragged up in some shows (not necessarily this one) when everybody seems to have to have a sob story to tell. If they just liked green and penguins, that would be quite enough for me. It's the process and the product that interest me and they induce plenty of emotion (see Keith's reactions!) But I'll happily admit that I'm not the most empathetic person so perhaps my view isn't common.

I struggle slightly with challenges which are weighted in favour of people who are good at drawing or painting. I'd have thought you could be a brilliant potter but not be very good at producing a picture of a seaside destination to order.

To be fair, they always comment on the quality of the throwing/construction, if there are any cracks or failings like sprig moulds coming off - faults in zthe piece itself are often the reason for leaving. It is just that these potters are all so good, most of the builds are perfect so decoration also comes into it.

Evening all

Terracotta tagines and braziers.

SabrinaThwaite · 08/02/2026 19:55

Must admit, I love cooking with a tagine.

Saucery · 08/02/2026 19:58

Bill’s looks like it could conjure a Minor Demon Grin

SabrinaThwaite · 08/02/2026 20:04

Hole in the lid or no hole in the lid?

Hole in the lid or no hole in the lid?

I was wondering the same thing, I've never used one but if the steam is supposed to go back down then a hole wouldn't make any sense.

Huh some some of them have really expensive carving tools and others cheap ones

So rushed tonight!

Mine has a tiny hole, so it lets a little bit of steam out but much of it condenses on the inside of the lid.

No second challenge? Is that because it's technically very challenging? I'm finding it quite dull, there's not enough variation in the design for it to be interesting at this stage. Maybe when they are fired some will stand out a bit?

AlicePottery · 08/02/2026 20:28

Second challenge coming up

SabrinaThwaite · 08/02/2026 20:40

Loving Siobhans’s dress tonight too.

BishyBarnyBee · 08/02/2026 20:42

Well that certainly made up for a slightly dull first half!

SabrinaThwaite · 08/02/2026 20:47

Fynn’s tagine is pretty but I’m not sure I’d get 4 portions out of it.

AlicePottery · 08/02/2026 20:48

They're all a bit meh

OP posts:
SabrinaThwaite · 08/02/2026 20:48

They’re all … small.

ETA: I have two boys that eat huge amounts, so my 4 portion pot might be quite a lot larger than others.
