Tony, from Eastenders, who abused Whitney, for me.

He is Kev in Emmerdale now. No idea if he is a neerdowell there as well, but I cant see past my hatred for him for Whitney 🤷‍♀️

See also: Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince - he will forever be associated with the Tom Jones dance.

I heard the witch from Wizard of Oz never really got another part.
Alan Partridge is now Steve Coogan.

Chersfrozenface · 26/11/2025 19:51

Harry H Corbett who played Harold Steptoe in Steptoe and Son.

Before the series he was a serious actor and had played Richard II to great acclaim, but his success playing in the comedy damaged his serious acting career.

BillieWiper · 26/11/2025 19:56

Both Phil and Grant from EastEnders. I don't think either really managed to get acting roles outside that type? Though one of them did those supposedly 'high risk hardman' documentaries like he was an SAS hero?!

I think it's really hard for most people from UK soaps to go into other major roles outside soaps. Or playing the same character.

Terminator 2 had a massively negative impact on Linda Hamilton’s acting career. She was great in the role but it led to her being severely typecast.

Yes it was a shame Chris Coghill struggled to get work after being in EE. Very good actor, I must get round to watching some Emmerdale episodes.

I’ll add Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest. Her film career never recovered from that, but she does go OTT at times in that film (although she’s occasionally brilliant).

Bryan Cranston

Ben Batt the guy who played the vile copper in Riot Women. He was on a chat show the other day and I couldn't even look at him.

firstofallimadelight · 26/11/2025 20:27

All of the inbetweeners
Sharon Den and Ian from eastenders
Gail from Corrie

ElectricMagpie · 26/11/2025 20:35

I cannot stand David Tennant, all because he played a creepy stalker ex in one-off drama 'Secret Smile' I saw as a tween. This would have been over 20 years ago, and I've been repulsed by him ever since.
Interestingly though he was good as Crawley in Good Omens, perhaps because he really was a demon that time!

Beat me to it with The Inbetweeners.

Blake Harrison has had a good career & avoided typecasting but it seems that the others have really struggled to escape their inbetweeners characters. They must look back at the series with mixed feelings.

I haven't forgiven Tom Hardy for what he did in The Revenant yet.

MinnieCauldwell · 26/11/2025 20:50

Kevin Whateley will always be Lewis.

Aeron Paul will always be Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad.

His IMBDb looks pretty busy.

AuntyAngela · 26/11/2025 20:57

Lovejoy and Jim from Neighbours.

Both have been in other things but always get called the above. (At least in this house they do!!)

GlitchStitch · 26/11/2025 20:59

Dominic West playing Fred West. I still love him in The Wire but I can't watch him in anything new, he just reminds me of Fred West and creeps me out! I don't think he's suffered from it though, he seems to do very well.

Aeron Paul will always be Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad.

To me Kevin Whateley will always be Neville from Auf Wiedersehen Pet and from the same show Timothy Spall will always be Barry.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/11/2025 21:12

Yeah I had the same surprise when I googled him 😅

Good for him. He will always be evil Tony to me though! 😤

John Nettles couldn't be anything other than a senior policeman. Bergerac or Barnaby, much of a muchness.

That also had quite a lot to do with the fact they set her on fire and caused horrific injuries to her face and hands….

HonoriaBulstrode · 26/11/2025 21:21

Jim from Neighbours.

Yes, when Alan Dale turned up in NCIS I was on a forum that was a mix of US, UK and other nationalities. The US members were discussing the character and how he fitted in with the established cast. Almost everyone else was saying 'It's Jim from Neighbours!'

Most Trek actors don't go on to do anything else that high profile post-Trek. Exception being Patrick Stewart, who already had an established career to return to.

😭😭😭 Ross Kemp will always make me laugh

Terrible terrible actor but definitely goes around the world being 'hard'

I remember when Suzanna from GMB tried to ask him his opinion on Harry and Meghan (i think that Harry is a patron of one of his war charities) and Ross pretty much told her to get fucked

I guess all the HP lot even tho they are awful actors

Changingplace · 26/11/2025 21:27

Alex Ferns, who played Trevor in Eastenders, little Mo’s abusive husband.

I saw him playing a policeman in a drama before and nope, he can’t possibly be a policeman he will always be that awful chilling character to me.

I saw her (the witch) in another film recently. Apparently she got badly burned while making the Wizard of Oz.
