Tony, from Eastenders, who abused Whitney, for me.

He is Kev in Emmerdale now. No idea if he is a neerdowell there as well, but I cant see past my hatred for him for Whitney 🤷‍♀️

See also: Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince - he will forever be associated with the Tom Jones dance.

Robert Powell as Jesus of Nazareth.

NomoneyNoprospects · 27/11/2025 13:41

I always felt a bit sorry for Anna Chancellor who is a fab actress but after 4 Weddings and a Funeral has never quite shaken off Duckface.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 27/11/2025 13:44

well… him or the fox in the Disney version.

No-one played Robin Hood as good as the fox.

Jack Gleeson - though he took a six year break and has made a bit of a come back. I noticed him in Sandman recently but was struggling to see him as new character not Joffrey despite him looking different. I think he's very good actor - so hopefully will seem him in wider range of parts in future.

It does seem to happen much more to US actors - even if they escape the part they end up in same genre. Though Bryan Cranston says he was just being offered Hal parts post malcolm in the middle and was in a position in his life to to say no - and it was because he'd done a x-file episode prior to hal part with someone on breaking bad that he was even thought of for breaking bad part.

God I was obsessed by TNAOS in the 90s. They went up on iPlayer recently but I didn't dare watch because I think I might be rembering then more kindly than they deserve 😆.

I saw Jim from Neighbours quite recently in some tv show set on a yacht when I saw him I thought oh it’s Jim from Neighbours. I have no idea what his real name is

I can get past the Jim from Neighbours thing but each time I see him.in something I'm waiting for him to die (in the show, not IRL!) because that seems to happen to him constantly. Same with Sean Bean.

I cannot stand David Tennant, all because he played a creepy stalker ex in one-off drama 'Secret Smile' I saw as a tween. This would have been over 20 years ago, and I've been repulsed by him ever since.
Interestingly though he was good as Crawley in Good Omens, perhaps because he really was a demon that time!

You should watch Des.
It's on Netflix.

If you don't like him cos of that role this won't change your opinion of him.

Showing my age here but William Shatner as Captain Kirk in Star Trek. Even when he became police officer T.J. Hooker in the series of the same name, it just looked like Captain Kirk was on earth in a police uniform running around after more mundane baddies.

Have you seen him as Denny Crane in Boston Legal? He's brilliant.

Paul Kaye (psychiatrist) will forever make my skin crawl after After Life

He'll always be Kenny in Two Thousand Acres of Sky for me, along with Cindy from EE.

John Nettles is an interesting one because I guess it shows your age if you remember him best for Bergerac or Barnaby!

Alex Jennings is a wonderful actor but for me is always an utter murdering, raping psychopath in Unforgotten. I saw The Lady in the Van recently but couldn't accept him as Alan Bennett, even though he gave a phenomenal performance.

James Fleet and the late Emma Chambers will always be Alice and Hugo from Dibley. And Joanna Page will never not be Stacey. I read recently that she's had to stop acting because of the strong link to G&S and wants to retrain as a sex therapist instead!

Even playing a Victorian sex worker in ‘From Hell’ Joanna Page was basically Stacey.

IMO, of course.

HeadyLamarr · 27/11/2025 14:23

Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow in the Nolan Batman series. I can't look at him after that, he creeps me out completely.

Paul Kaye is simultaneously Dennis Pennis and the dissolute fire priest in GoT.

Tamsin Greig is Debbie Aldridge if I'm not looking at the screen and Fram from Black Books if I am looking.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 27/11/2025 14:25

Of course Tim Curry in Rocky Horror. His career never recovered from that.

What has rupert done? 👀

I know he had a show with nick something where he lies about having cancer

I last saw him on a very dull Apple TV series about a psychotic nanny, set in a very dark New York Brownstone. I can’t remember what it was called.

He wasn’t the lead, I think he played the Husband’s brother in it so he just popped in for a beer and a man-to-man over the breakfast bar once or twice every episode.

Tryingatleast · 27/11/2025 14:28

Jamie dornan, I found him too creepy after the fall, didn’t help that he went on to do 50 shades!!

cheapskatemum · 27/11/2025 14:28

The one who came to my mind is William Roache, who will be Ken Barlow in Corrie until his death, I fear.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/11/2025 14:29

Spike.

I only need one word, which proves it.

Ardal O'Hanlon will always be Father Dougal to me, I just can't watch him in Death in Paradise, it sounds all wrong hearing him speak in an English accent.

I was thinking "how silly" until I remembered Jason Watkins in "Being Human" He redeemed himself in Macdonald and Dodds.

My DH can’t see Jason Watkins in anything without shouting ‘He’s a Vampire!’, having been a big fan of ‘Being Human’ back in the day.

Its really quite annoying, its surprising how many things he’s in.

I actually had to stop watching it when he took over as the head vampire, it gave me serious nightmares.

But he uses his own Irish accent in Death in paradise

LarkspurLane · 27/11/2025 14:41

I think long term soap stars just become the character, it would be quite jarring to see Ken Barlow anywhere other than Coronation Street.

It is strange how many think that they really are the character. I read something about Patrick Duffy (that's Bobby Ewing to me) disagreeing with Trump and a whole load of Facebook comments were in shock that a Texas oil baron had those views.
I did see Patrick Duffy on stage not that long ago and while I thought he was very good, a small part of me was thinking that Bobby Ewing had got older very gracefully.

ExquisiteDecoration · 27/11/2025 14:42

Well, he didn't sound at all like Father Dougal, that's for sure, it was years ago now but I seemed to think it was an English accent at the time. I think also the fact that the two characters are poles apart in intellect etc didn't help either.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 27/11/2025 14:43

Ardal will always be My Hero to me 😭
