SUMMERWATER sun,mon &tue 9pm ch 4 - TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2025 20:38

The Channel 4 drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss.

Dougary Scott stars alongside Harry Potter (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/harry-potter-franchise/) legend Shirley Henderson (yes, Moaning Myrtle!) in the unsettling first look trailer at new Channel 4 drama Summerwater.

The new six-part Scottish drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss and boasts plenty of atmosphere in this promo, which airs on Channel 4 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/channel-4/) tonight (Sunday 2nd November 2025).

Summerwater has been adapted by Utopia scribe John Donnelly and is directed by TV crime drama veterans Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton.

The footage teases a non-linear narrative as a destructive event in a Scottish holiday park prompts questions about the dramatic lives of those in residence.

The official synopsis from Channel 4 reads: "Set predominantly at a remote loch-side Scottish holiday cabin park, Summerwater looks at the simmering tensions between holidaymakers that eventually erupt into a devastating climax."

The synopsis continues: "Weaving together the lives of several families as they navigate unspoken conflicts, private dilemmas, and fleeting moments of beauty from their disparate cabins, the story flashes back to dramatic events in key characters’ lives before their holiday which may have consequences in the present."

Summerwater is the story of a group of strangers who happen to be staying in a Scottish holiday camp during the same week, a week during which it seems mostly to be raining so often that the various families are largely confined to their cabins where they surreptitiously spy on each other through slatted windows. 😂

Channel 4 itself boasts that the show is "thrilling and compulsive" and "character-led".

Could this be a classic whodunnit? Or something all the more disturbing?

Alongside Scott and Henderson, who are visible in the trailer, the drama also features performances from Blue Lights (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/blue-lights-season-3-release/) favourite Valene Kane, Showtrial's (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/showtrial-bbc-review/)Anna Próchniak, House of the Dragon (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/house-of-the-dragon-season-3-release-date/) actor Gabriel Scott, Vigil's (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-3-cast-first-look-newsupdate/) Anders Hayward, and The White Lotus season 3 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/white-lotus-season-3-release-date/) actor Arnas Fedaravičiu.

We'll have to see who is playing a guilty party when the drama finally arrives on our screens...

The Indeed advert in each ad break is a bit annoying. "You go first" "No you go first" etc

Not sure if we ever find out his salary 😂😂

@snowibunni is a tad confusing but think I’ve sussed it now with helps of recaps 😂

So e5 was mainly flashbacks /recaps of what we have seen but make more sense as knew the back story of what and why was happening

so

why he was speeding in the car as thought she had killed herself

the drinking on the bed

Annie is ill. Wants to kill herself so doesn’t have to suffer

hubby wasn’t impressed but then said wouid help

Annie and hubby did have a 3 some years ago in the cabin but not with Justine as I thought maybe in e 2/3

Annie sleepy with her art teacher

hubby should have helped her with putting it in her tea but added a lot of sugar

but

seems be didn’t and chickened and didn’t poison her as still in the vial

Gavin flashbacks confused me a bit with his young daughter but now we know are flashbacks. So he used drink and why lost his wife and marriage

seems his daughter still loves him and wants to see him and now she’s an adult

Flashbacks are popular in so many dramas but quite often they say something like 'Two years earlier' so we all know where we are. Not in here though!

Am liking it much better than I did at first but every one of the people involved is strange!

SheilaFentiman · 25/11/2025 16:11

@Blondeshavemorefun i am amused by that recap complaining about c4 rushing to adapt this book, given I would estimate less than 20% crossover between book and tv!

I guessed who started the fire. At least this last episode tied up most of the loose ends, unlike so many dramas.

SheilaFentiman · 25/11/2025 23:43

I agree re loose ends, at least we know whodunnit (if not why that bothy seemed
to cause hallucinations!)

Clawdy · 26/11/2025 12:20

But it was highly unlikely that guy would take his young daughter with him to complain about a noisy boozy party. And very unlikely he and his daughter would join the party!

RosieBurdock · 26/11/2025 12:38

That girl is dangerous. I'd like her to have been found out so she could be stopped from whatever she will do next. Thank God it's fiction!

I think her mum Justine clocked it, and possibly even her dad, though in a “giving Lola an out” way.

However, since Justine was going round keying cars and stealing passports, I’m not sure that helps much!

RosieBurdock · 26/11/2025 14:54

I think the dad definitely guessed as he was encouraging her to say she'd seen the Grandma going in there with a cigarette. Plus claiming he had

SheilaFentiman · 26/11/2025 15:13

Yeah, sorry - I don't think I was clear - I meant her dad had clocked (at least to the extent he had seen her coming out of the parents' bedroom) but was giving her a way to get out of it, at the same time as incriminating the foreign grandmother, as he was pretty xenophobic.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2025 20:10

Yes I thought it was their daughter after the candle and water /swing plus we are now friends

I didn’t like the daughter Lola

she started the fire and locked the other girls bedroom. She’s a mean teen and they def gave her a way out saying about the mum and cig

thi didn’t the husband out the passport in his pocket so didn’t burn in the fire

I didn’t get who the boy was. He was on the river - his mum was the blonde lady

thr running lady was mean to him but lied but guess her running came in handy to get the defib

thi why did they only do compassions. And not Breathe in his mouth after every 30 /nelly the elephant

so he does trying to save someone wasn’t even in there

what was all the Gavin /homeless scenes and flashbacks with daughter

will go and read recap and see if makes any more sense

The boy was Alex, Becky’s brother. The one who liked trees and lost his virginity to Kayleigh, the girl from his chemistry class.

Becky was the girl going to visit homeless guy in the forest.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2025 20:23

Ok. Thanks

so what happened to gavins daughter

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2025 20:24

Becky and Alex
lola and younger brother

were the kids

so why did we have flashbacks of chemistry girl

OP posts:
SheilaFentiman · 26/11/2025 20:57

Chemistry girl was Alex’s backstory, same as the boss was Justine’s backstory and the art tutor was Annie’s backstory.

He saw chemistry girl in his minds as he was losing consciousness.

Gavin’s daughter wasn’t there in the present, he abandoned her again.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2025 21:07

I’m glad you all understood ending 😂

When 2 different mums don't know where their kids are (especially the mum of the 9 year old), I would be a lot more panicky if I didn't know where my 9 year old was! Never mind in the middle of a forest!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2025 22:09

And a big lake
