SUMMERWATER sun,mon &tue 9pm ch 4 - TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2025 20:38

The Channel 4 drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss.

Dougary Scott stars alongside Harry Potter (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/harry-potter-franchise/) legend Shirley Henderson (yes, Moaning Myrtle!) in the unsettling first look trailer at new Channel 4 drama Summerwater.

The new six-part Scottish drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss and boasts plenty of atmosphere in this promo, which airs on Channel 4 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/channel-4/) tonight (Sunday 2nd November 2025).

Summerwater has been adapted by Utopia scribe John Donnelly and is directed by TV crime drama veterans Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton.

The footage teases a non-linear narrative as a destructive event in a Scottish holiday park prompts questions about the dramatic lives of those in residence.

The official synopsis from Channel 4 reads: "Set predominantly at a remote loch-side Scottish holiday cabin park, Summerwater looks at the simmering tensions between holidaymakers that eventually erupt into a devastating climax."

The synopsis continues: "Weaving together the lives of several families as they navigate unspoken conflicts, private dilemmas, and fleeting moments of beauty from their disparate cabins, the story flashes back to dramatic events in key characters’ lives before their holiday which may have consequences in the present."

Summerwater is the story of a group of strangers who happen to be staying in a Scottish holiday camp during the same week, a week during which it seems mostly to be raining so often that the various families are largely confined to their cabins where they surreptitiously spy on each other through slatted windows. 😂

Channel 4 itself boasts that the show is "thrilling and compulsive" and "character-led".

Could this be a classic whodunnit? Or something all the more disturbing?

Alongside Scott and Henderson, who are visible in the trailer, the drama also features performances from Blue Lights (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/blue-lights-season-3-release/) favourite Valene Kane, Showtrial's (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/showtrial-bbc-review/)Anna Próchniak, House of the Dragon (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/house-of-the-dragon-season-3-release-date/) actor Gabriel Scott, Vigil's (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-3-cast-first-look-newsupdate/) Anders Hayward, and The White Lotus season 3 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/white-lotus-season-3-release-date/) actor Arnas Fedaravičiu.

We'll have to see who is playing a guilty party when the drama finally arrives on our screens...

I’m watching now @Clawdy. Too tired last night

I thought flashbacks were Justine and David

30yrs ago

he had the same ring which they keep showing
as he had a wife and she was married /engaged

this is when I need a recap and can’t find e2 yet

I felt for David with his wife and her mental issues

funny they mentioned andy mcnab as my first dh loved his books and read them all

Good point it might be Justine and David. I hadn't picked that up

What happened in the bothy? Has the Lithuanian guy got a twin?

That bit did confuse me

did he stab someone

was it in his mind due to drugs he has taken

i thought the one who helped his daughter was the man he stabbed

then the photo on the laptop was him

so confused

and still no bloody recap for 2&3

why is the lady in the hotel such a bitch

Well this is nothing like the book, is it?!

(watched 1-3)

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2025 20:57

I do wonder why they keep going to the same dark Dreary place for 30yrs

In the book, it’s clearer that some of the families own the cabins and some are just there for one off holidays.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2025 13:28

Very slow in recaps. Found e2

I did wonder why Justine was nailing up a picture if she was just in a holiday rental!

Thanks

Hopefully 3 will be out in a few days

No idea why he stabbed that man .

Normally, when dramas show different families in episodes, they make it clear what's going on but not in this one .😯

SheilaFentiman · 19/11/2025 16:07

I'm not sure he did! Wasn't it himself, in make up, like in the early days with his wife when she photographed him? I think he was on drugs. Maybe it was symbolic of the death of youth, or summat :>

butterpuffed · 19/11/2025 16:16

Maybe, who knows ! Have almost given up on this .

I promise no spoilers… I’m ill in bed and embarrassed to say I’ve watched it all. All I will say is if you have anything more exciting to do, like file your tax return or sort out your knicker draw…do it. I just kept thinking, this has got to get better, IT DOESN'T! Complete and utter load of bollocks.

Noooo ☹️

moto748e · 19/11/2025 18:54

But "Ive watched it all and it's brilliant" or "I watched it all and it's rubbish" are spoilers.

SheilaFentiman · 19/11/2025 19:09

@moto748e I don’t think they are, any more than the Guardian review of the series was a spoiler.

Funny I don’t mind that and don’t consider them spoilers.

No they’re not. They’re people’s opinions which you may or may not agree with when you’ve watched the whole thing. A spolier is saying ‘he dies in the end’ or whatever thereby spoiling the story. Literally a spoiler.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2025 13:18

Some are watching think it’s rubbish. Some think it’s ok /went to know the ending

I’m half way thru episode 2, lost interest and then read this thread. I’ve switched off and gone to Netflix to watch a cheesy Christmas 🎄 movie 😆

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/11/2025 16:02

I came to see if there was a thread on this - I’ve just watched episode 1-3. I read the book a few years ago, and I think the reason this isn’t working very well is that the book is mainly “inner monologue/streams of consciousness” style, with even sections from animals in the forest. The rain is almost a character in the book, present in every scene. I’ll watch the rest of it as I’m not a quitter!

I agree. It's more 'loosely inspired by' than in any way 'based on', and none of the backstories from the TV series were in the novel. It was 'ordinary day in the lives of a bunch of deeply ordinary people staying in the same holiday cottages', not a psychological thriller with supernatural bits. Justine was mildly unhappy at home with her mildly oafish husband, two kids and not much money, rather than someone with a backstory of hatred, revenge and mental collapse against a colleague. The doctor and his wife from what I remember were adjusting to being retired and older and growing apart -- he wasn't a raging maniac contemplating killing her.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/11/2025 20:21

As I haven’t read the book I have nothing to compare it to. Like on many of thess threads

so I am enjoying

Finally e3 recap

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 22/11/2025 20:30

Well the recap didn’t help much tho seems Marijonas didn’t kill anyone but he saw his self - maybe in the future covered in blood

tho recap says Volta is shown a pic of her dad by Alina

isnt Marijonas her dad ?

im totally confused now

OP posts:
SheilaFentiman · 22/11/2025 20:36

@Blondeshavemorefun Violetta was shown the pic of her dad in make up that her mum took. That’s what reinforced to me that the person in the bothy was Marijonas in the makeup look.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/11/2025 20:40

Still confused
