The new six-part Scottish drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss and boasts plenty of atmosphere in this promo, which airs on Channel 4 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/channel-4/) tonight (Sunday 2nd November 2025).

Summerwater has been adapted by Utopia scribe John Donnelly and is directed by TV crime drama veterans Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton.

The footage teases a non-linear narrative as a destructive event in a Scottish holiday park prompts questions about the dramatic lives of those in residence.

The official synopsis from Channel 4 reads: "Set predominantly at a remote loch-side Scottish holiday cabin park, Summerwater looks at the simmering tensions between holidaymakers that eventually erupt into a devastating climax."

The synopsis continues: "Weaving together the lives of several families as they navigate unspoken conflicts, private dilemmas, and fleeting moments of beauty from their disparate cabins, the story flashes back to dramatic events in key characters’ lives before their holiday which may have consequences in the present."

Summerwater is the story of a group of strangers who happen to be staying in a Scottish holiday camp during the same week, a week during which it seems mostly to be raining so often that the various families are largely confined to their cabins where they surreptitiously spy on each other through slatted windows. 😂

Channel 4 itself boasts that the show is "thrilling and compulsive" and "character-led".

Could this be a classic whodunnit? Or something all the more disturbing?

We'll have to see who is playing a guilty party when the drama finally arrives on our screens...

Accidentally looked up Coldwater instead of Summerwater and was surprised no one had posted! Just about to start the latest episode

Coldwater would probably be a more fitting name as it's not very Summery!

There's not 1 happy soul in the place and it will do bugger all for Scottish tourism.
Just bleak beyond belief.

It’s a depressive place

I said the same about Scottish tourism. Puts you right off trees.

Plus all the other woodland chalet type places like centre parks and forest enterprise holidays.

Having said that some of the stands of timber are lovely.

It's as grim as anything. Its striving to be dark and threatening when it's really anything but, it's tipped into a farce. A boring farce.

I'm sticking with it (god knows why) as there must be a point to all these back stories.

Are they all at the hut? The loner gets wacked over the head (a la Shetland this last week) and dies so the group set fire to the place to cover the crime up.

I think forestry land must be cheap to film on as there's at least two other recent series which features forestry plantations - is it Cooper and Fry? That new detective series ? The builder drive to a forest and then was shot. And that one with the serial killer husband and the vicar who claimed to know nothing about what her husband was doing. Actually three, recent ones as I watched a Canadian movie which was forest heavy and featured an elderly lady been shot and killed with a bow and arrow.

Any way I shall stick with it (as a form of punishment for future crimes).

The weird thing is, although the book is definitely set in Scotland, the lake Semmer Water is actually in the Yorkshire Dales. Bit random!

I did think the young actors were very good last night, though.

If they are all being interviewed then who is the dead body ?

Is it just a program about shit happening and everyone has shit happening? But you can't necessarily tell how shit just by looking?

I thought that was a good episode. (Today's one.) Even though I'm not sure what happened at the end. Did he give her the potion or not and was she the one in the fire?

It looks like a really miserable place to go on holiday to.
The hotel bar is ghastly, the weather dull and everything looks grey.
Not a great ad for Scottish tourism.

It's a bit cruel giving someone tea they wrongly believe has the life ending liquid in it rather than just saying "Sorry I can't do it."

Saw this online
