SUMMERWATER sun,mon &tue 9pm ch 4 - TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2025 20:38

The Channel 4 drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss.

Dougary Scott stars alongside Harry Potter (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/harry-potter-franchise/) legend Shirley Henderson (yes, Moaning Myrtle!) in the unsettling first look trailer at new Channel 4 drama Summerwater.

The new six-part Scottish drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Sarah Moss and boasts plenty of atmosphere in this promo, which airs on Channel 4 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tag/channel-4/) tonight (Sunday 2nd November 2025).

Summerwater has been adapted by Utopia scribe John Donnelly and is directed by TV crime drama veterans Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton.

The footage teases a non-linear narrative as a destructive event in a Scottish holiday park prompts questions about the dramatic lives of those in residence.

The official synopsis from Channel 4 reads: "Set predominantly at a remote loch-side Scottish holiday cabin park, Summerwater looks at the simmering tensions between holidaymakers that eventually erupt into a devastating climax."

The synopsis continues: "Weaving together the lives of several families as they navigate unspoken conflicts, private dilemmas, and fleeting moments of beauty from their disparate cabins, the story flashes back to dramatic events in key characters’ lives before their holiday which may have consequences in the present."

Summerwater is the story of a group of strangers who happen to be staying in a Scottish holiday camp during the same week, a week during which it seems mostly to be raining so often that the various families are largely confined to their cabins where they surreptitiously spy on each other through slatted windows. 😂

Channel 4 itself boasts that the show is "thrilling and compulsive" and "character-led".

Could this be a classic whodunnit? Or something all the more disturbing?

Alongside Scott and Henderson, who are visible in the trailer, the drama also features performances from Blue Lights (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/blue-lights-season-3-release/) favourite Valene Kane, Showtrial's (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/showtrial-bbc-review/)Anna Próchniak, House of the Dragon (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/house-of-the-dragon-season-3-release-date/) actor Gabriel Scott, Vigil's (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-3-cast-first-look-newsupdate/) Anders Hayward, and The White Lotus season 3 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/white-lotus-season-3-release-date/) actor Arnas Fedaravičiu.

We'll have to see who is playing a guilty party when the drama finally arrives on our screens...

The recap was helpful @Blondeshavemorefun . I couldn't understand why Maya and Justine were arguing about the keys and apparently there was paint on them. I hadn't noticed that!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/11/2025 15:34

I do love a recap. I gathered it was something to do with keys and her car but the paint wasn’t that obvious

plus the 3some may have not been in her mind but was it 30yrs ago

hinting that she knew the couple next door (Douglas scott) from years ago

so has she been there before ? Decades ago

Ooooh! I thought Justine must have stolen her key and the new colleague noticed. Didn't notice paint.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/11/2025 18:01

That was the key she had in the woods

E2 tonight

I thought it was turgid. The main actress was dull and it was all just irritating

DarkNovemberBringsTheFog · 17/11/2025 23:51

It’s all filmed in the dark. I can’t see what’s going on, so came here to see what other people thought of it.

Thank you all for your views. There are better things to watch so I’m giving up.

My name is just a coincidence, but moderately appropriate.

3smallpups · 17/11/2025 23:56

So agree, was so dull and dark and I didn’t care about any of them. Turned over and watched malice on prime, it was so nice to see sunshine and brightness !

Clawdy · 18/11/2025 08:35

Bit confusing tonight, I thought at first the flashback scenes with the young couple were him and Annie. Bit surprised to find out they were both married and he had kids, at first I thought they were a teenage couple!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2025 09:48

I’m watching now @Clawdy. Too tired last night

I thought flashbacks were Justine and David

30yrs ago

he had the same ring which they keep showing
as he had a wife and she was married /engaged

this is when I need a recap and can’t find e2 yet

I felt for David with his wife and her mental issues

funny they mentioned andy mcnab as my first dh loved his books and read them all

Couldn't watch it clearly as it was dark. I thought it was my laptop but see that others mentioned it .

Everyone in it was down or depressed so it didn't make for a good episode.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2025 16:17

It was very dark

My favourite series like this recently was The Girlfriend. Least favourite was Coldwater. This is somewhere in the middle. I'm finding it watchable.
Another I liked was the French one The Intruder.

Coaster1 · 18/11/2025 19:38

oh no I’m invested in it now! It’s so slow

NiceHairMan · 18/11/2025 20:25

Dougray Scott is absolutely terrifying, but has very nice knitwear.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2025 20:56

He was a little cross yesterday but you can understand why

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2025 20:57

I do wonder why they keep going to the same dark Dreary place for 30yrs

I promise no spoilers… I’m ill in bed and embarrassed to say I’ve watched it all. All I will say is if you have anything more exciting to do, like file your tax return or sort out your knicker draw…do it. I just kept thinking, this has got to get better, IT DOESN'T! Complete and utter load of bollocks.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2025 22:31

I admit tonight’s was a bit boring plus the jumping back and forwards is confusing me

but I went to know the end so will watch 456 next week

@imtoooldforthisshite Thank-you. I struggled through the 1st episode and 3/4 of the second before giving up. However I had this niggling worry that I missing out and it must get better. Thanks to you I won’t waste another moments thought on this snoozefest!

moto748e · 18/11/2025 23:00

Heh! This another thread I'm scouring looking for something to watch! Nothing on Netflix I fancy or haven't seen, at the moment I'm limping by with S2 of Judge Marianne on Walter Presents (French comedy). I'm not sold on this from posts above, or the Graun review. I mostly remember Dougray Scott from that pretty awful Enigma film, with Kate Winslet.

RosieBurdock · 18/11/2025 23:34

What happened in the bothy? Has the Lithuanian guy got a twin?

RosieBurdock · 18/11/2025 23:37

I do wonder why they keep going to the same dark Dreary place for 30yrs

I think it would be lovely in summer with the lovely mountain scenery and lake and forest and birds singing. It seems quite wintry. I'd probably like staying there (minus the thumping music and strange people.)
