Well this looks interesting. Creepy af.

Not the usual type of viewing for me. But I like the writer so I'm giving it a go.

Anyone else watching?

What's with the radio frequency thing?? Is this the key to turning them all back to normal??

KylieKangaroo · 25/12/2025 16:13

Yes I think so!

Rousillon849 · 26/12/2025 07:32

Just finished the last episode. Such a conflicting series - I find myself not instantly jumping to Carol's and Manousos' side. I expect I am not meant to, and it doesn't help that Manousos is such a dislikeable twat.

2 years at least until season 2!

EleanorPeck · 26/12/2025 09:01

I thought it was very interesting how the Peruvian girl was affectionately cuddling the goat but once she'd 'joined' the others, she walked off and left the goat behind. Does it suggest that although they are meant to be happy, they don't feel real affection or love anymore?

KylieKangaroo · 26/12/2025 09:48

Yes I felt sorry for the little goat!
Also if everything is an "act" for them what to they do when they are not acting just eat and rest in large groups? It's all so weird but I love it!

LushLemonTart · 26/12/2025 15:22

Poor baby goat.

It was sad about the girl too. I wonder if any others will follow suit? Be a while before we know.

They're really stringing it out. I'm still not clear what's going on. Have the 'aliens' just taken over their minds? To what purpose? How did it start?

KylieKangaroo · 19/12/2025 23:21

She has effectively just slept with the whole world!

Technically everyone living she has ever slept is there in the hive mind.

They said it was a virus, but not quite. It seemed to be a bit of code that was possibly a chemical formula, repeated on a loop.as radio signal on a star? This makes no sense to me.

Rousillon849 · 26/12/2025 20:07

Oh and the consciousness needed a home, I think that might be the why?

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 26/12/2025 20:17

And, in the first episode, if I remember correctly, they passed on the 'virus' or whatever it is via kissing, or at least locking mouths with another person. Then in a subsequent episode, it seemed to happen with everyone suddenly going still as statues and when they awoke, they were 'turned'. It's a mystery!

The code was basically a genetic sequence - scientists artificially produced a "virus" using this genetic sequence in a lab, but it escaped the lab (via a rat biting a human).

I see it an intergalactic virus and each planet it "infects" is a host. Like any virus it's only goal is to replicate itself. So Earth is being used as a host - the virus creates a hive mind that believes that being a hive is utopian bliss and that it has a duty to share this utopia with others through diverting the Earth's resources into beaming the code for the virus out to other planets. The virus doesn't care if the consequence of this is destroying humanity (as it surely will - even if we accept being in the hive is as blissful as they say, they will eventually starve because they won't eat other living things) - as the virus has no interest in humanity, only in securing its own replication to other planets.

TWO YEARS?! Why so long!

And yes I think so - Zosia was explaining the shared consciousness works a bit like a radio signal and I think Manousous has discovered it. For example if they can intercept or block that frequency then presumably the shared consciousness would fall apart?

Sounds like next season Carol will be on a clock to work with Manousous to disrupt the hive before they extract her stem cells - I guess Carol thinks that having an atom bomb will stop them coming near her but we know they are likely to be able to use the 'crop dusting' method they used to convert most of the globe.

boatyardblues · 28/12/2025 21:22

I’ve been avoiding the thread til we got home and caught up. I was desperate not to be spoiled for the last episode. As others have said, it was quite slow. Now Carol’s feeling betrayed and angry I think she and Manousos will be a highly effective team. Does anyone know what the outbound space rocket the Peruvian girl was watching was about?

I thought it was the plane, that we then saw land, carrying potion that was used to get her into the hive mind.

LushLemonTart · 28/12/2025 22:58

@FishfingerFlinger yes it was.

Ah thank you. That makes sense.

PostmanPatAlwaysRingsTwice · 30/12/2025 03:14

Bit foolish of them to convert the girl. She was the only one in the village who could kill chickens and harvest crops for them to eat.

EleanorPeck · 30/12/2025 13:59

They all share knowledge when they've joined though, so every person who has joined knows how to kill chickens and farms crops, how to fly a helicopter, perform surgery etc.

LushLemonTart · 30/12/2025 14:03

Yes they can do everything.

They won’t kill chickens or plants though, for ethical reasons!

But they could eat those that were already dead

EleanorPeck · 30/12/2025 21:50

Ahh! Yes, good point!

cakelover75 · 31/12/2025 09:30

Just finished this last night too. Really enjoyed it but lots of questions…
The main one being, why can’t Carol tell them she doesn’t want them to experiment on her eggs and she does not want to be converted to one of them? She was able to state that she didn’t want them to extract her stem cells and they complied with this.

have I missed something?

KylieKangaroo · 31/12/2025 11:06

I was thinking the same thing, if they have to make her happy then she could just ask for the eggs back?
