Well this looks interesting. Creepy af.

Not the usual type of viewing for me. But I like the writer so I'm giving it a go.

Anyone else watching?

Would make the most sense, just wondering who is in charge of their weekly chats. They were clever enough to find out about the HDP and the stem cells.

LushLemonTart · 06/12/2025 10:54

I'm amazed they admitted eating humans. How did that conversation come about?

They can’t lie so if they had a conversation about what they were eating or what was inside the milk cartons then presumably they’d tell them.

I wonder how long they had to plan all this - it’s less than 2 weeks since the mass joining event but they had time before that when they started joining think about nutrition and stuff I guess.

FishfingerFlinger · 06/12/2025 11:23

I think this episode was the first time I started feeling real empathy for Carol - literally everyone in the world (well, apart from Mr Venezuela) is trying to avoid her!

LushLemonTart · 06/12/2025 11:33

Yes how have they planned this? It's definitely one of the weirdest things I've watched.

I've been with her from the start. Her dp died and the whole world went weird. I'd be furious amd terrified.

Me too, @FishfingerFlinger

DS and DH think the ham radio frequency that the South American guy has honed in on is the hive’s connection with their home planet/species. We love that he’s so analogue but can't work out if it’s because he’s a paranoid off-gridder or relative poverty in his country.

Rousillon849 · 06/12/2025 12:50

When Paraguay man swore at his mum I got the impression there was beef between them that pre-dates the change. Carol's parents sent her to conversion camp. Is it just a coincidence, an obvious fact of life that the parental trauma survivors are going to be the ones who are cynical and angry enough not to be taken in by the hive mind?

I think if he was an off-gridder he would have had a supply of food.

The frequency did sound a bit like the title music.

She’s an addict I think, judging by the ignition interlock thing on her car so we know she’s had at least one DWI, and she still drinks heavily plus the fact that she doesn’t have her own smart phone and her earlier history of drug use, oh and the conversion camp her parents sent her too. Lots of complicated and painful stuff, makes people not easy to like or root for. This is what I love Vince Gilligan for, and the kind of writing that made Better Call Saul unparalleled for character development only this time it’s sort of going in reverse. Redemptive rather than the Macbeth arc that was Breaking Bad.

Venezuela guy is actually a Colombian living in Paraguay! I can’t wait for next week, and there’s so few episodes yet to come. Argh!

Objectively I totally get all that but I just wasn’t feeling it - I don’t normally have a problem with “unlikeable” characters but I just hadn’t felt that sense of her being a fully three-dimensional character until this week’s episode.

@WeJustWantYouToBeHappy I only saw a couple of episodes of severance. Ds1 loved it. Maybe I'll try again?

Severance is the best show ever

You got a sense this week that she felt pained about being excluded and rejected by the other normies. It’s the first time she seemed vulnerable. I hope Paraguy guy is decent and not a total loon.

LushLemonTart · 06/12/2025 22:45

I think her and P guy will work together to try and solve it?

Does anyone know why they can't eat farm animals that die naturally for protein (since they can eat humans that die naturally!)? Maybe I missed something about that. It wasn't mentioned at all in the video about eating humans.

LushLemonTart · 12/12/2025 16:53

Pluribus day!

Just watching now.

I won't spoil it.

I think Paraguay guy is going to I be extremely underwhelmed when he meets Carol 😄

boatyardblues · 12/12/2025 23:00

When Paraguay Guy slipped in the forest our combined yelp woke our sleeping cat with a start. Aside from the Darien Gap I loved his scenic road trip.

I’m wondering how he and Carol will get along. They are both incredibly pig-headed and unwilling to give way. It could be a bumpy ride. 😬

DuncinToffee · 12/12/2025 23:03

Those palm trees were scary.

They’re real. I just searched it up. https://www.esquire.com/uk/culture/tv/a69708657/what-is-the-darien-gap-in-pluribus-episode-7/

Edited to add spoiler warning.

DuncinToffee · 12/12/2025 23:07

I did as well Grin

Poor Carol this episode.

boatyardblues · 12/12/2025 23:10

The garage mishap made me laugh although the bit before it was worrying. (See, I am trying to be oblique for the benefit of people who aren’t up to speed.)

That's such an interesting idea. I keep wondering how come these people are impervious to being taken over.

LushLemonTart · 12/12/2025 23:28

I like hiking but think I'll give the Darien gap a miss! Why would anyone attempt it?

I'm looking forward to next week.
