Nick is getting a hard time about this, but I feel that Joe brought it on himself somewhat!

Unless I'm recalling the events wrong: Joe's stated intention (in the lounge with Nick) was that he'd be forming a fake alliance with Cat and Alan and voting to banish David. Nick looked uncomfortable about the idea of David having to go as collateral, but it made sense in a brutal kind of way (not that he agreed to follow that voting himself). So, the Joe-Nick partnership had an understanding of what would develop at banishment, and Joe went outside to bring Cat and Alan onside against David.

Come the round table, I would have become unsettled had I been Nick, and seen my supposed ally switch from David and vote for Cat! I would have doubted Joe too at that point.

No that's not what happened.

Im sure Joe said to Nick before the round table, that they would both vote for Cat.

snoffle · 07/11/2025 00:37

Did he?! In that case I might have not been paying attention at that point.

Pinkbox · 07/11/2025 00:52

I also felt Alan was playing for sympathy when he won, to protect himself, but having watched Uncloaked it sounds as though Nick and David would attest to his emotions being genuine at that point.
I thought Ed Gamble was driving one of the final cars as they pulled the camera back and showed a driver for once, apparently not.
I wanted the traitors to win because they’d made it all the way through, so was happy with the end.
Fully agree with a PP that we don’t want any Z-listers in the next one. It has been so good because of the people who agreed to do it.

Holluschickie · 07/11/2025 00:54

What a brilliant finale! So glad Alan won. He so deserved it.

snoffle · 07/11/2025 00:55

I just had to go check on iplayer, as was doubting myself!

This is what Nick said to Joe at the final vote, "I adore you, honestly I didn't believe it. But you voting for Cat is what sealed it, but I love you."

He believed Joe was voting for David (like he'd said he would), and was thrown into doubt by the switch.

No that’s not right though- Joe thought the traitors were cat and Alan. He had been saying that since the last episode. His plan was to make a fake alliance to cat and Alan and pretend to them that he was also going to vote for David. Then pull the rug last minute and vote for cat.
If you look back at the conversation between Joe and nick earlier, he tells nick that he is voting for cat. Nick also says he will vote for cat. So they just need to bring David onside to also vote for cat.
The reason nick grew suspicious of Joe was that he said ‘sorry cat’ after voting her- nick thought that they were both traitors and Joe had voted off his fellow traitor and said sorry

Holluschickie · 07/11/2025 01:09

Can't believe Alan collapsed in giggles in the faithful test and Nick + David still voted for Joe.
Joe was as gracious as an angry rhino.

Of course class is fluid.. wealth goes up and down.

Class means how much money a person has.

It really doesn't.

Great final after a slow start. Pyrotechnics v staged but loved the shot of them all running together up hill with the fire behind. Can't believe Nick turned on Joe but Alan probably a deserving winner and he picked a great charity.

Cappibarra · 07/11/2025 01:23

Settings11111111 · 07/11/2025 00:09

Nah, class isn’t fluid. If you grow up working class, as David most definitely did, fame and fortune don’t suddenly change your class.

Wayne Rooney is still working class. Andrew Windsor could have his assets seized and be offered a council house and he would remain steadfastly upper class. Takes at least a generation to change.

But I digress. What a show! Thrilled for Alan. Don’t like Joe Marler.

Edited

I don't think that can be true. I grew up working class as they come - but now you'd be hard pressed to call me anything but middle. What's the definition?

Floortoceiling · 07/11/2025 01:26

zazazaaarmm · 06/11/2025 23:24

I thought that was spectacular TV. So pleased Alan won. Would equally have loved Joe to win. Could feel Nick's anguish.
David was the classic middle class intellect, clever with books but not with people.

'David was the classic middle class intellect, clever with books but not with people.
He grew up on a working class housing estate (in Gateshead), and has spoken quite a bit about that. So I don't know if the way he played the game is necessarily about class (and certainly not about him being middle class), but just about him, as an individual, and how he reads people.

AuntyAngela · 07/11/2025 01:33

Really enjoyed that final! I was totally shocked by Nick — not just voting for Joe, but then choosing to end the game with Alan still in it. It really shows how little the Faithful have to go on. A single moment of doubt or misinterpretation of a look or choice of words can send someone spiralling in the wrong direction.

I also love that the same dynamic plays out not just in the castle but in the online threads too. It gives such fascinating insight into how convinced people are that they can “read” others and detect deception, when in reality it’s often just unconscious bias at work. The way some were convinced Paloma’s playful teasing meant she was genuinely furious at Alan and had a “face like thunder” the whole. Alongside the Joe haters doing full Olympic-level mental gymnastics to twist his clearly playful behaviour as “aggressive” and “arrogant” 😂.

It was great to see a celebrity version with so many actual established celebrities! It makes such a difference when they’re not trying to launch a career or rebuild their image. I do wonder whether they’ll ever manage to do that again, or if we’ll be back to scrolling through the cast list asking “who?” for most of them.

SueblueNZ · 07/11/2025 01:50

Okay, so which "national treasures" would you pick for the next series. No johnny-come-lately slebs (as someone above said) so that rules out influencers, MAFs, reality show contestants etc.
I'm no good at starting as I'm not even in UK but one person who comes to my mind Michael McIntyre.
Am really looking forward to watching the final here in NZ tonight.

Great finale! I like that they all reconvened after the game, too. They don't normally do that and it gave a nice sense of closure.

Felt so sorry for lovely Nick at the end, he seemed so determined not to be the Molly to what he perceived to be Joe's Harry, and it backfired terribly for both of them.

Alan deserved the win for successfully dodging suspicion, his murders in plain sight, and a skilled bit of fibbing at the round tables this episode. He walks around like an utter ditzy disaster but he's very capable at defending himself when required, and I don't think you get to his level without sharp wits and steel.

Hoping for an equally stacked cast for S2.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/11/2025 05:01

i used to watch Call my bluff as a teenager, and played it once, and won, the way to win was to laugh when you were telling the truth so people believe you are lying, is the aim of the game.

i couldnt post here last night, but that was tense, someone said on the other thread it was intellectual snobbery Nick and David, urgh, they were so annoying in the end!
Judas!
good game

Empress13 · 07/11/2025 05:13

What a brilliant ending so glad Alan won. He deserved it having fooled everyone! Joe annoyed me because all the way through it he said Jonathan was the traitor yet never voted him out at the banishment as always seemed to be swayed by others at the table ! Anyway Regardless of who won the money is going to a very good cause. Totally agree that the calibre of celebs was brilliant with no reality Z listers let’s hope the next celeb series is as good !

I think they all just liked him too much! I mean, he actually managed to rewrite history at that final round table. They had all heard him forget he had a shield but it became ‘oh, you just told me I would sleep well and I didn’t know what you meant’. And they all just nodded!

They have done the post-finale gathering in both U.K. S2 and S3 (I haven’t watched all the other overseas versions).

I think she means when they all met up outside on the actual finish. They don’t normally do that and the ending feels slightly flat. I remember Harry being all excited but standing there alone with a glass of bubbly.

NewAgeNewMe · 07/11/2025 06:26

Haven’t watched Uncloaked yet but what an ending. Poor Joe. Loved him and David’s voice 😍. Great charity picked by Alan.

The one about farting being such sweet sorrow? Confused

It was such a give away.
I was an episode behind and it was when it was a cliffhanger. Ending on Alan saying "parting is such sweet sorrow" to kill someone at dinner.
We all knew Celia had farted so was obviously her! Was a good thread title otherwise.

But look further back in the finale

Joe did say to Nick that they would both vote for Cat..

Joe says to nick throughout the whole finale episode that he is going to vote for Cat.

So there is no way that Nick could have been surprised that Joe voted for Cat.

You're still working class.

People think David is middle class because he is educated and well spoken, so mumsnetters can't get their heads around someone being working class and displaying these traits 😂

Anyway, I'm glad Alan won. He was the most entertaining and I think the tears were genuine, he looked like a nervous wreck at the end!

My DH grew up on a council estate in Bradford as did his Mum and Nan before him. He absolutely was working class. He 100% isn't now.
He went to uni, works a professional job, culturally does ehat would be considered middle class stuff (theatre, art galleries, reads heavy tomes, shops at M&S). He goes skiing and hates going to places he went as a child like Benidorm or Havens.
Maybe David's voice is to hide (sadly as I love love love a NE accent) his accent and fit in. Still find it annoying!

Its because he must have changed his accent. If he grew up in Gateshead no way did he speak like he does now.
