@Finto1111 as President of the MN Chapter of “Team Nick” (😜), I happily direct you to YouTube to watch Nick, in his stand up persona of “Mr Swallow” in several editions of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Recommend you start here:

As well as being an actor, writer, comedian, musician and all round good egg, he also has a brain the size of a planet which saw him study Geophysics at Durham before moving to Cambridge to do a PhD, which he dropped out of to pursue a career in comedy.

Just a shame his huge brain let him down in the Final 🤣🤣🤣

The two academics had no guts to instincts. Not like our Joe!

The BBC posted a spoiler on instagram with a big video **about Alan winning, about five minutes after the show was over.

Once the show has been aired its everyone's responsibility to either watch the show, or stay off the internet until they do

I agree, apparently the finale was leaked in Australia so I didn’t pick my phone up until the show was over just in case I saw something.

I thought that was spectacular TV. So pleased Alan won. Would equally have loved Joe to win. Could feel Nick's anguish.
David was the classic middle class intellect, clever with books but not with people.

There’s nothing middle class about David Olusoga.

I thought Nick was going to collapse!

Well done!

Now that's restraint

MrsKateColumbo · 06/11/2025 23:58

That was soooooo good!!! I can't believe the faithfulls were so close to the win and then turned on Joe,

RedRec · 06/11/2025 23:59

Finto1111 · 06/11/2025 23:35

Yes exactly. How is that a spoiler. Its not

It's not exactly difficult to work out why that was a spoiler, if you had only seen up to the bit where Alan was tasked with killing someone in plain sight using 'those' words.

barskits · 06/11/2025 23:59

Raquelos · 06/11/2025 23:42

Was Stephen Fry the only one missing from that final show? Does anyone know why he wasn't there?

He was otherwise occupied on stage in The Importance of Being Earnest, someone mentioned it on the previous thread.

caringcarer · 07/11/2025 00:00

I thought Alan was brilliant. Cat was a brilliant actress too always looking so confused and puzzled.

There’s nothing middle class about David Olusoga.

Well in the terms of class, David didn't start life as middle class (he had a poor childhood)

but surely he is middle class now.

The same with Joe Marler - he had a poor childhood, but has worked himself up to rich middle class now.

Class is fluid. It can change

Well I don't think that anything put online after a show has already aired - is a spoiler anyway.

This was the best TV for a long time.

S2 has to have proper slebs and national treasures to make it as watchable as this, none of your love island type non-slebs, they just won't do.

barskits · 07/11/2025 00:02

My favourite Alan quote from tonight's episode has to be "I love a steam train, but not when it's packed with explosives" 😂

ilovesooty · 07/11/2025 00:04

I liked Mark and his T shirt on Uncloaked - Jonathan Fucking Ross 😁

Nah, class isn’t fluid. If you grow up working class, as David most definitely did, fame and fortune don’t suddenly change your class.

Wayne Rooney is still working class. Andrew Windsor could have his assets seized and be offered a council house and he would remain steadfastly upper class. Takes at least a generation to change.

But I digress. What a show! Thrilled for Alan. Don’t like Joe Marler.

Outside9 · 07/11/2025 00:13

Voting Joe off, after he aggressively pursued Jonathan, was pretty dumb.

I'm surprised as at the start of the show I would've said Stephen, David and Nick were one of the smartest contestants, but in the end they were all unimpressive.

Of course class is fluid.. wealth goes up and down.

Class means how much money a person has.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 07/11/2025 00:14

My claim to fame is that I was born on the same day as Alan in the bed opposite, and my mum used to take me round to his mum’s apartment when we were babies and we’d play together. Not seen him since we were both about 18 though, and he’s changed a bit since then! Glad he won, though, but I think it was more the faithfuls being useless, bless them.

Nick looked like an idiot at the end.

Maggiethecat · 07/11/2025 00:23

Agree with poster, ThePoshUns on thread 6, about the intellectual snobbery surrounding Joe. Some people still think he had no original ideas. So what? Where did these ideas get anyone else?
Mr off the Mensa scale Nick, whom I love, cocked up spectacularly. And don’t even get me started on David.
Loved Joe

Lots of them weren’t there - Lucy, Joe W, Tom, Stephen and others too I should think. Just busy elsewhere most likely, nothing untoward.

Ruth Whoever managed to turn up, bringing a face like thunder with her. I hope they had searched her for sharp objects before sitting her in arms reach of Johnathan.

🙂

Ah poor Ruth has had a very hard life

Finto1111 · 07/11/2025 00:27

I think a TV star is born in Joe Marler.

A lot of people love him.

People prefer his no nonsense straight approach- to the wishy washy affected weak approach of Nick and David

snoffle · 07/11/2025 00:32

Nick is getting a hard time about this, but I feel that Joe brought it on himself somewhat!

Unless I'm recalling the events wrong: Joe's stated intention (in the lounge with Nick) was that he'd be forming a fake alliance with Cat and Alan and voting to banish David. Nick looked uncomfortable about the idea of David having to go as collateral, but it made sense in a brutal kind of way (not that he agreed to follow that voting himself). So, the Joe-Nick partnership had an understanding of what would develop at banishment, and Joe went outside to bring Cat and Alan onside against David.

Come the round table, I would have become unsettled had I been Nick, and seen my supposed ally switch from David and vote for Cat! I would have doubted Joe too at that point.
