Game of Wool

What did we all think of Game of Wool then?

Personally I thought it was mostly all about Tom Daley - did he really have to try all the tank tops on himself? And also that there is never going to be enough time for each challenge for the contestants to make something worthwhile. Who would actually use a knitted sofa cover?
It’s such a condensed version of the challenge, we won’t get time for much witty banter either.

The jury is still out for me.

The children's costumes have been the best so far - would have been lovely to see more of the details.

If we're being generous, the show still needs to find its feet. The judges are definitely failing to come across as the experts that they surely are.

I think Sirdar are selling the children’s patterns.

I’ve just caught up and I’m wondering why I bothered tbh. The children’s outfits were the best challenge so far but I’m really not warming to any of it.

Mt563 · 30/11/2025 21:15

I do think the challenges are getting better...

KnickerlessParsons · 30/11/2025 21:25

Yes. Not so bad this evening.
Tom’s outfit though 🧐

Enjoyed it tonight...but...I can't get on with the judges at all

NotMyRealAccount · 01/12/2025 08:44

I appreciated the naughtiness of putting Holger and Ailsa together and tasking them with making a big ugly garment when they're both so precise with their work.

Netcurtainnelly · 08/12/2025 13:12

Given up with it.
Made for TV.
Knitting needles in her hair. Just No.
There maybe a need for a knitting programme but this isn't it.

KnickerlessParsons · 15/12/2025 18:32

Yesterday’s episode was a bit better, but those dresses made from Aran jumpers - but would anyone actually wear one?
I liked a couple of the bags, but poor Isaac.

LIZS · 15/12/2025 18:54

I forgot to watch…

2Rebecca · 15/12/2025 20:02

Isaac has some good ideas but lacks the experience to get his timings right. Holgar’s bag looked much more impressive. Ailsa’s bag was disappointing

heartsinvisiblefury · 16/12/2025 16:15

Holgar’s bag was beautiful!

Yes they aren't really into the ' praise sandwich' are they? They are also quite boring in their delivery. I think it is fairly obvious Holger will win. In the tradition 9f Strictly- hes a Ringah!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2025 21:39

I think in fairness, they might have said lots of lovely stuff but been edited heavily

SheinIsShite · 16/12/2025 22:48

I think if there is to be another series - and I hope there will be because there is not enough knitting and crochet on telly - that it needs a massive shake up.

Different judges - they might be experts, but they're rubbish. Just no personality, they are dull and tedious. They need to follow the sewing bee and have perhaps one older judge and one younger. There are loads of young designers doing cool stuff with knitwear. Hope Macaulay. Lauren Aston who went viral after Claudia wore one of her jumpers on the Traitors. Whoever it was that designed Harry Styles' cardi.

Different challenges - group tasks are just not working. Also many of the challenges have been totally ridiculous. Crocheted deckchairs, ffs. Take a leaf from the Kirstie Allsop christmas show - that allowed knitters to make a Christmas jumper at home, and on the show they were asked to knit a matching accessory in a time limit. Ask any knitter and they could come up with a huge range of far more realistic challenges.

Tom Daley - meh. He's not a presenter. Mel and Sue were great on the bake off without knowing about baking. Same as presenters on the Sewing Bee, Pottery showdown, portrait artist thing. The role of the presenter on that sort of show is to facilitate and interact with the contestants not to have knowledge.

KnickerlessParsons · 17/12/2025 00:03

If Tom Daley mentions his gold medal one more time……

ClaraGingerTree · 21/12/2025 20:33

Over alI I am very disappointed with the series. Considering the amazing knits the contestants and judges were wearing.
Why were they asked to make ridiculous things. And why a team challenge? Knitting and crochet are individually amazing but not everyone does both. Sitting for 12 hours to create something is difficult. Most of us would be doing this over a longer period of time. The final is on tonight. What are they asked to do???? Put a topper for a Post Box.
I should of expected it.
I have seen many Craft Competitions and have come away inspired. This series I've come away Very Disappointed. We could of learned so much more about about Knitting from the around the world rather than making ridiculous items. I Think we actually didn't found out much about the contestants and their styles.

I can’t get on with the judges either. They are pretty miserable and humourless. It would be better to have judges with some personality.

KnickerlessParsons · 21/12/2025 21:09

The right person won tonight (unlike Madterchef: Dawn O’Porter and/or Alun Wyn Jones were robbed).

I didn’t think much of the post box topper and it wasn’t considered during the judging, but I liked all the hats.

Holger has been the best most consistently - as evidenced by his three baaaa-dges - and I’m please he won.

OP posts:
2Rebecca · 21/12/2025 21:41

I’m pleased he won too but Ailsa’s hat was my favourite

NewGirlInTown · 21/12/2025 21:50

Hugely disappointing overall IMO.
Tom Daley is not a presenter, has not got the skill set and defaults to talking about himself. Crashing bore.
The judges look like they’ve been dragged off the street, especially that one with knitting needles in her hair.
Hugely skilled contestants given stupid tasks.

Citronellacompostella · 21/12/2025 21:52

Appreciate everyone’s skill but not sure watching people knit works as a concept tbh! It’s only a tiny bit less boring watching paint try! And I really love arts and crafts!

Even Tom Daley seems terminally bored. When interviewing the contestants, he looks like he will fall asleep before they answer! Also, he doesn’t have anything particularly interesting to say!

Citronellacompostella · 21/12/2025 21:57

But reading through the thread, this post has made me laugh…

Those poor dogs. The sense of shame was palpable

I missed that episode thankfully! 😅

2Rebecca · 21/12/2025 22:47

I enjoyed watching it, but do tend to watch TV whilst doing something else

PinkTonic · 22/12/2025 07:18

Brilliantly talented knitters, absolutely dire show. Stupid tasks, boring and crap judges and terrible editing to create fake drama constantly. I’ve stuck with it because I loved the idea of it, but it was so badly done it’s almost a parody.

Anotherdayattheforum · 22/12/2025 07:29

A six episode show and 146 posts. People voted with their keyboards. 🥱
