Game of Wool

What did we all think of Game of Wool then?

Personally I thought it was mostly all about Tom Daley - did he really have to try all the tank tops on himself? And also that there is never going to be enough time for each challenge for the contestants to make something worthwhile. Who would actually use a knitted sofa cover?
It’s such a condensed version of the challenge, we won’t get time for much witty banter either.

The jury is still out for me.

Hey! Looks like they're not doing Chunky today! Grin

WHAT a stupid challenge, though. Our mums all remember knitted swimwear and it was not popular ...

The additional 'accessory' reminds me of a Bake Off challenge that the judges deemed not tricky enough, so dictated that it all be encased under a pointless chocolate dome/jelly/suspended two feet in the air. Why would you need an accessory for swimwear?

2Rebecca · 16/11/2025 20:12

I have sewed a swimming outfit but who in their right mind would knit or wear one today

SheinIsShite · 16/11/2025 20:19

A crocheted beach cover up thingy would be more appropriate.

AlwaysRightISwear · 16/11/2025 20:24

The divers look as embarrassed as last week's dogs.

SheinIsShite · 16/11/2025 20:25

Nipple tape and flesh coloured pants doing a lot of heavy lifting. Poor girls.

AsideFromThis · 16/11/2025 20:30

It’s all just a bit tacky.

barbismyfriend · 16/11/2025 20:31

It’s a good job that neither the women or men are particularly well endowed! We creased up trying to imagine knitting a bikini top for my 38FF boobs…

NotMyRealAccount · 16/11/2025 20:43

The consensus in this house is that the "glamorous" swimwear should have been judged by a panel of Love Island contestants rather than by a couple of middle aged women.

SheinIsShite · 16/11/2025 20:44

the contestant who did the Las Vegas glamorous number with the sparkly yarn - anyone who has ever worked with that knows it is very itchy! You don't want that around your gusset.

2Rebecca · 16/11/2025 20:47

We hardly got to see Holga’s swim outfit finished. The bit I saw was unimpressive

barbismyfriend · 16/11/2025 20:56

How does the deckchair that doesn’t work as a deckchair not come last? Crap scoring!

Unfortunately Tom Daley’s behaviour on The Traitors put me off him so that hasn’t helped.

Oooh @AgapanthusPink tell me more (didn't watch Traitors)

What did TD do wrong on Traitors? I thought he was okay

Umy15r03lcha1 · 16/11/2025 21:40

I love this programme, despite nearly everyone having a personality bypass including the judges. That's the best bit. My favourite snippet so far was after the group challenge knitting a sofa cover someone suggested a group hug and Isaac grumbled he doesn't do hugs. Cracked me up

Holger to win. Or Alisa.

I loved the bit with the non hugs.
Meadow was the only one who mentioned being autistic afaik but I bet she’s not the only one who is.

I've never seen a show where basically everyone seems to grumpy to be in it!! The contestants are so funny in their blatant dislike of the challenges and judging and today the models, especially the woman, looked so pissed and like they'd rather be anywhere else.

It's all so flat largely except for Tom's puns which he doesn't really have the charm or something to pull off.

I've never heard of knitting and glamour together, seems daft to even try to me, especially for swimwear and under a time limit. I wish, like sewing bee, they'd tell you more. Like the history of woolen swimwear and the waterproof qualities of different wools and different knitting styles.

A well, it's fine as background noise to knit to.

I loved the short-sleeved top that Aisla was wearing in last night's episode. I suspect it was another vintage pattern (she was rocking the whole 1940s look) - did anyone recognise it?

Saddlesore · 17/11/2025 16:20

Found it (or something very similar)!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/11/2025 17:45

Saddlesore · 17/11/2025 16:21

Yes, must be it!
Particularly since it says, ‘. This pattern is wildly popular in the vintage knitting community, which has only increased since the release of the film Jojo Rabbit (2019) which features the pattern.’

I am beginning to think the 1940s were the great age of knitting; the quality of design and also the levels of skill there must have been in the general community. The yarn shortages and need to make do seem to have inspired a burst of creativity in pattern design.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/11/2025 17:47

I’ve just watched ep3. Loved the crochet judge. Hope we get more of her. There was a little bit more this episode about the mechanics of it (need to do doubles rather than trebles for the non stretchy deckchair sling).
The right one was sent home imo (I refuse to say cast off).

SheinIsShite · 17/11/2025 18:50

I;m currently knitting a christmas wreath. May post a pic if I'm brave enough.

Yes they all behave x as c if c they've been kidnapped c and forced to knit on demand! Especially Holger. If it's beneath you dont apply for a competitive knitting show! I'll be watching Ep 3 in a minute while trying to crochet the front of a waistcoat!

I think it’s reasonable to feel like that if you expected it to be normal knitting and once you find out it’s ridiculous challenges with chunky wool it’s too late to back out!

amy100 · 18/11/2025 17:51

This show is ridiculous. The time limits are much too tight which means the results are disappointing for the knitters and it’s very stressful for them. I can’t bear to watch people being put through this!

Fernie6491 · 22/11/2025 13:02

I remember my dear late Dad telling me about a swimsuit his mum had knitted for him in the (probably) 1940's. He said as he came out of the water it started sagging and elongating , finishing somewhere just above his knees. Never worn again! 😆
So on this show, why oh why? Do they never learn?
