There's a loss of development grounds for live TV anchors compared to previous decades, especially with the safer ground of live children's TV gone in terms of discovering and developing young presenters. Strictly would be more complex and unpredictable than the magazine type shows that are still going with the turn-arounds being so tight and dependent on near continuous live action/ collaboration.
Also fewer people enter TV via theatre, and having that direct human engagement.

A general frustration I have with the BBC is taking someone that's good at one aspect of presenting and putting them into a different form that doesn't play to their strengths- seems to happen a lot with radio. But that's digressing somewhat.

No chance Matt Willis will be involved, he's a recovering (and occasionally relapsing) drug addict and alcoholic. I don't think the BBC will have anyone with a whiff of scandal.
