I don’t hate Dean (or Sarah) but I actually don’t buy the lie he told about deliberately putting on weight. To be clear, yes he claims that but I don’t believe it is that simple as he says.
I was fat between 20-23, then lost 4 stone right out of uni , took me maybe 2 years. Men often lose weight quicker so wouldn’t be surprised if he did it a lot quicker. But the kicker is when you do it so quick you sometimes underestimate the challenge of keeping the weight off and don’t take the time to develop a long term habit . It’s a bit like the difference between going on a temporary diet and making sustainable changes to improve your lifestyle.
Despite having quite a big appetite and sweet tooth I was able to keep it off long term through my lifestyle of 15K steps commuting, working with kids and sporadic bursts of going to the gym. And while I wasn’t nibbling on lettuce (always had 3 quite large meals a day plus often sweet snacks) I did somewhat keep an eye on my food intake.
Many if not most people put weight back on within a few years. They just aren’t able to maintain the sometimes drastic changes they made, as they haven’t incorporated it into their lifestyle or dealt with underlying issues.
If Dean was more honest he’d admit that’s at least partly what happened. He failed to keep the weight off, because he didn’t manage to keep up with the changes he had made.
Because in what world does a man (especially one like him who is so keen for love or affection) lose weight, find out he gets loads of female attention, then actively CHOOSE to put on weight? Nah not buying it.
That rubbish about being slim made him a nasty person so he had to go back to being fat is silly. He isn’t automatically transformed into a nice person because he is fat
or a nasty person because he is slim.
He ACTS nicer now because he is fat and tries to ‘compensate’ for that by playing the nice guy, because he knows he can’t get away with what slim Dean got away with!
I mean yeah self sabotage does exist and it may have played a role subconsciously, and he may have felt overwhelmed at the new body image he has, but I believe overall he likely has a food addiction and comfort eats and he basically reverted to type.
I think we’ll find after this show he gets on WLI and goes back to the gym And maybe goes into therapy too.
