New 5 part drama

Will it beat Pauline behind the curtain 😂😂😂

Joanna moves to the quiet town of Flinstead with her young son, Alfie – a fresh start in a place that promises peace.

But beneath its quiet surface lies something more sinister.

When she discovers a chilling rumour about a convicted child killer hiding in plain sight, Joanna seizes the chance to bond with the local mums by sharing it – unknowingly unleashing a wave of paranoia and suspicion.

As whispers grow louder and tensions rise, Joanna is swept into a dangerous spiral of secrets and blame.

With trust eroding and fear spreading like wildfire, she begins to question not only the town’s past but her own instincts. Who can she trust?

And what will it cost her to find the truth?

The story is based on the Sunday Times bestselling book by Lesley Kara,

The cast of The Rumour includes Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small, For Her Sins, The Strangers Part 1 & Part 2) who stars as Joanna – a mother desperate to outrun her past and protect her future. Also joining the cast is Joanne Whalley (Willow, Wolf Hall, Scandal), Emily Atack (Rivals), Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who, Amandaland), Ellie Haddington (Enola Holmes, Motherland), Lucy Speed (Unforgotten, Afterlife), Liza Sadovy (A Real Pain, Patience, A Small Light) and Carryl Thomas (Emmerdale, Silo, Silent Witness, Eastenders). Rounding out the ensemble cast are Tamzin Griffin, Alex Waldmann and Okezie Morro.

On wed Thur Fri and then not till next week

Also, I really thought Alfie was a girl 🤦‍♀️

Same! I had to rewind it to check on the name .

Just watching ep1 now. Could Joanna be the murderer herself? She was the one having the flashback of the doll burning/in flames. Maybe that shows her state of mind?

No, because the murder took place in 1969, when Sally was 10. The murderer would be in her 60s.

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2025 20:19

And why do they never close the curtains and put the lights on ffs!

Oh OK. I must have missed that detail.

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2025 20:22

Who is Seth that keeps texting Joanna? Is that her bit on the side? The school looked like it was in the middle of a forest!

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2025 20:23

If it's not Sonia, could it be the other older lady (Liz?)?!?

I don't know. We are told that Sally is quite a bit older.

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2025 20:42

This Joanna woman is paranoid and creating trouble every time she opens her mouth, however unintentional it may be 🙄

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2025 20:58

I now think it might be Joanna's mother the killer. That's why her childhood home was set on fire.

xsquared · 12/09/2025 21:06

Urgh! Joanna really needs to keep her mouth shut and stop gossiping and speculating!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/09/2025 21:32

Right caught up with last nights. Now to start tonight’s

not sure who the killer is tbh
be a good twist if it was her mum. Imagine that

yes I thought her mum was now in a gay relationship. Someone said that

school is very lax to allow the dad to just take

Joanna is a shit stirrer - and yes why doesn’t she tell friends hubby to sod off

her boss also seems to be acting dodgy at work and secretly on the phone

Hope she feels guilty. Sonja killed her self due to Joanna

Absolutely! She's incredibly intrusive and all her shot stirring will come back and bite her in the arse!

Her boss is Steve and her 'friend' Debbie's husband, no? It's the same guy, I thought.

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2025 22:00

Also, why wouldn't the dad be allowed to collect his son? He has parental responsibility just like Joanna does. Unless she had told the school about an issue, why would they refuse?

GallifreyGirl · 12/09/2025 22:03

I’m about 10 mins into ep 3. I thought Alfie was a girl too and was very confused. As for Joanna why can’t she keep her mouth shut and stop gossiping and spreading her thoughts like it’s the truth. She’s not making a likeable main character in my opinion. I do think that her mum is suspicious though

She’s new to the school. They don’t know the dad

yes the son is old enough to say that’s my dad I guess

Jo's husband seems great so far, what's the problem?

autienotnaughty · 13/09/2025 05:06

I can’t believe I’ve missed this! Loved the book very excited to binge watch this now

xsquared · 13/09/2025 06:11

When Jo tried to find the rumour online to show to the mums, but.couldnt, do you think it was because it was removed or did she imagine it in the first place?
